Miyake POV

"You usually don't come, did something happen?" I ask
"There's a notice from the kingdom this time around. As of now, there's no new declaration from Schtrom, but the congress continues to progress, with each country's executives monitoring the old empire. "Due to this difference, for years, the students from the knight academy have called us "bean sprouts" as an insult. To counter that, the students from the magic academy came up with "muscle brains" which is used to this day." Thor finishes off
"So they're just on bad terms with each other"
"But, to think that you guys are bothered by this even in an emergency...?" Shin asks
"I know that!"
"But I can't endure being called a "bean sprout"
"It's really annoying, isn't it?"
"On the other hand, I'm quite fine with it."
"I was on their side not too long ago, so..."
"I can't say anything" Alice, Rin, Yuri, Cecily, Tony, and Julies voice their opinions
"You two probably won't have any problem since you're adept in both wizardry and swordsmanship."
"Well, we just happened to be taught by our uncle Michel..." Shin says

"Well, he was already too drunk for them to notice ...If that was just the engagement party, I fear for what will happen at the wedding"
"In any case getting along with them is impossible!" The girls argue
"Well, this is going to be fun"
A few days later, during the joint training session.
The students of both schools are present and the whole time they are there, both parties are staring daggers at the each other
"The training involves engaging in actual warfare as a group consisting of eight people, four from each school. Each group has to engage with the demons in the nearby forest. Even though instructors from the kingdom will be accompanying you, you must never let your guard down" The head instructor finishes explaining, and they assign us to groups, our group consisting of ten members since there weren't enough people for a new group to be formed, so we all board our carriages and head towards the forest
"So you guys are the other members of our group, huh. Knight military training academy, top student Edwin Horton." blond short-haired guy introduces himself
"Second seat, Kreis Lloyd" blond medium-length guy is next
"Third seat, Miranda Wallace" next is a girl with her purplish hair made into a ponytail
"Noin Curtis" a short black-haired guy introduced himself
"I'm Kent Mcgregor" the last brown-haired guy finishes off
"They immediately put on a sore face...the first guy is going to be a big problem, I can already see that he thinks that he's the best...the other two guys look arrogant, the girl looks thorny and the last guy just keeps to himself...lucky me huh"

"I'm August von Earlshide"

"Maria von Messina."
"I'm Cecily von Claude it's a pleasure to meet you"
"So you two are the grandsons of the hero..."

"You'll die," Shin says in a cold voice
"Sh-Shut up! In fact, the work of subjugating demons is originally done by the knight academy alone!"
"That's right! It's just as Miranda said. It's fine as long as you guys don't get in our way"
"*whistle* to think that not even the words of the strongest person in the kingdom aren't enough to make you understand" I comment
"What did you say?!" the girl shouts while putting her hand on her sword
"Go on try something, see what happens" I stare her down
"Merinda, calm down." The first seat speaks up "Leave our hero to have a nice moment with his ugly girlfriend" He looks at me all proud, but his expression quickly turns into that of horror after I stab my katana through the wall of the carriage, right above his ear and bring my face in front of his
"Go on say something else about her, I'm waiting," I say to him, my words filled with murderous intent
"Miyake, step down" Aug says
"Be happy that His Majesty is here," I pull out my katana and return to my spot
"Somehow you don't quite get the objective of this training. I hope you'll understand as soon as we encounter a demon." Aug says to the students of the knight academy and the rest of the ride is spent in silence while I completely ignore the scum and enjoy my time
After a while, we stop and get out of the carriage
"Hey, isn't this the deepest part of the forest?"
"Well, it seems that the places themselves are ranked by the order of performance"
"Huh...they said that each team is accompanied by instructors... Where are ours...?" Shin asks and two we hear two people approaching us
"Dammit why of all people..."
"As always, you're carrying that horrible attitude. Why don't you learn a little from Miyake?"
"Same goes for your unfriendly attitude...Why don't you learn something from Shin?" All of us turn around to look at the two people
"Eeeehhh!!!" Shin yells
"Yooo Shin!" the silver-haired guy says while holding up his hand
"Today I'm counting on you, Miyake!" the red-haired beauty says while they both walk towards us
"S...Sieg-niichan and...Chris-neechan!?"
"So you two are the instructors"
"I'm begging you, please don't quarrel, okay?" Shin asks them
"As long as this person doesn't pick a fight first." Both of them say at the same time
"...HAAH?" They yell while staring at each other
"That's why I said to stop doing this!" While this was going on the people behind us start getting excited and they jump at Sieg and Chris
"Si-...Siegfried-sama! Will you please shake my hand?"
"Ah! No fair! Me too!" the girls jump at Sieg
"Christina-sama!"
"To be able to meet you in person, it just fills my heart with happiness!"
"Today by all means please watch my brave figure...!" The guys surround Chris
"What's this?" Shin asks shocked
"Both of them are popular enough to have dedicated fan clubs at the academy," Cecily explains
"Eeeehh...Sieg-niichan is a flashy guy so it was kinda expected"

"Pfft!" Chris laughs at Shin's response
"Yeah Sieg I can understand but Chris...yeah not so much" I add

"Ah?"
"Ah?" they start again
"We'll go on ahead..." and that reminds them why we are here so we start walking through the forest
"...Hmm. The students from the knight academy will first subjugate the demon by themselves..."
"It's a common problem that you often see when you enter the academy...it's okay isn't it"
"Yeah, it's fine cause Miyake and Shin are also here."
"On the other hand, the students from the magic academy seem to know the meaning of this training."
"Well, not all of them..." Aug says and Maria looks away
"...Well, I do understand the meaning of this training. In actual warfare, I can't do anything with my powers alone if there's no support from the knights"

"Ah, is that so? Maria-chan also saw Shin and Miyake fight against a demon?" He gets really close to her face and a vein appears on my forehead

"Then you do understand. You watched their battle after all," he says to her with a smile
"Th-That such a thing...is only possible because Miyake is capable of using both magic and swordsmanship..." She responds while getting red
"Sieg I would like for you to know the concept of personal space," I say to him while touching his chin with the tip of my katana and wearing a smile that definitely doesn't reach my eyes
"*gulp* R-Right" He backs away
"All of this reminds me of hunting," Shin says changing the subject
"Oh yeah, you used to hunt down beasts by yourselves" Aug responds "What's wrong the knights? Suddenly went silent"
"It's not amusing to see demons popping out of nowhere...so it would be weird if they were not nervous and cautious..." I say while walking up next to them
"...Well, Shin and Miyake were eagerly smiling after killing a demon at the age of ten," Aug says loud enough for the knights to hear which shocks them
"Shit"
"Tch! Show off"
A brief moment later I sense something approaching "Sieg, it's here but isn't this a little..." I say to him while looking back
"Hah...you're probably right this is probably too hard for them..." He says while looking a bit worried
"I have a suggestion how about we first show them how it's supposed to be done, so can I with..." I lean into his ear and whisper
"Sure if you want to...Knights retreat, for now, a demon will appear soon and since it's a bit more powerful Miyake and Maria will handle it," Sieg announces
"What?"
"Why, should we move aside when we can..." the knights try to argue back
"We are prioritizing safety, this decision is final" Chris orders and the knights step aside while staring at me but I ignore them
"What? I'm supposed to?" Maria starts getting nervous and I walk over to her
"Don't worry everything will be fine, I'm here so even if something dangerous happens I'll protect you. I'll be at the front and you attack from the back, okay?"
"Okay!" She nods, I kiss her on the top of her head and walk to my position katana in hand, and moments later
"ROAAAAR!"
"A bear!?" one of the knights yells out and I get into a stance
"Maria, you ready?" I shout
"Yes!" she shouts back
"Then let's do this!" I start running towards the bear
"ROAAAR!" it tries to slash me with its claws but I slide under it and cut off one of its legs and while it's disoriented, I quickly cut off the other one, making it fall on the ground
"Get him!" and Maria fires a spell at it, creating a ball of flame that envelops the bear, completely erasing his existence and leaving behind a crater
"We did!" she runs towards me jumping into a hug
"Good job!" and I spin her around
"What?!"
"They defeated it so easily?!"
"And it all happens in mere seconds" the knights can't believe what they just saw
"I...I picked a fight with the wrong people..." Edwin thinks to himself while sweating nervously
"Now you saw how to take down a demon, simple right, try and replicate that next time we encounter one," Chris says while Maria and I walk back to the group
"Nice job!"
"Good going," Shin and Aug say to me, and I high five them
"You did so well out there Maria" Cecily praises her friend
"Thanks" and they share a hug
"Wonderfully done you two"
"That might be some type of record...I barely had time to think" Chris and Sieg says while walking towards us
"What can I do when my fiancee is just too amazing," I say while smiling at Maria and she looks away embarrassed and we resume our search for any more demons and after a brief moment
"Sieg-niichan, it's here," Shin says to him
"Knights prepare, a demon will appear any moment now! You already had a presentation on how to do it, so we expect some results. Get ready for combat." Sieg orders
"SQUEAL!" a boar jumps out of the bushes
"Damn...! Even if you turned into a demon, you look delicious!" Shin says while wiping his nonexistent saliva
"Your impression isn't normal"
"...!" the boar starts running towards the knights
"There's no need to be afraid!! Let's show them that we are better!! Hyaa!!" Merinda lunges at it but the boar quickly backs away creating distance
"It...It's fast...!!"
The boar now full force charges at them and in seconds the proud knights are on the ground
"UWAAAHHH"
"GUGGHH..."
"GAAHH..."
"My...my arm..."
"Haa Haa" they try to catch their breath
"Wait...what is that? Even though it was just a wild boar...By turning into a demon, its physical abilities have surpassed all limits..." the knights now on their knees, unarmed are left at the mercy of the yet again charging boar
"KYAAAA!" but before the boar can inflict further injuries Shin jumps in front of the helpless knights, lowers his stance, and cleanly slices off the head of the boar and it lands right in front of the knights
"HIIII" they jump away frightened
"Ju...Just one blow!?"
"Wolford...when did he..."
"Y...You guys need recovery magic...!!" Cecily yells but Chris holds her hand up and walks towards the knights that are still on the ground
"How pathetic! Even after getting a demonstration on a much stronger beast, you still failed to eliminate a simple boar. You were bragging about defeating it yourselves with that kind of ability under your belt. Don't make me laugh, if you went up against that bear all of you would be dead."
"You guys are the top students at the academy and all you can do is spit out hollow words and act like someone who hasn't even seen the battlefield? When you enter the army, you guys will be the weakest bunch. You won't even match up to the recruits who entered the previous year"
"However, if you have the magical support you saw earlier...Your skills might improve a bit. And soon you will be able to defeat the demons of this caliber. Please keep that in mind while going through the remaining of the training." Chris rips them a new one
"Yes..."
"Yes, ma'am..." and Chris walks back to us and I welcome her with a small clap
"Who thought that you can be cool sometimes"
"I have my moments"
Cecily runs towards one of the knights and crouches down "Excuse me...please stay still while I apply recovery magic. Recovery magic is my specialty"
"You...You are..."
"Thanks, even after we looked down on you..."
"That doesn't bother me at all. Right now, we're at the same party. It's a given I would do this" Cecily responds and all of them are smitten immediately and a vein appears on Shin's forehead
"Now, now"
"Don't worry about them"
Both Aug and I try to console him
After that the male knights took care of Cecily's every need, cutting down high grass for her and offering her water everyone five minutes, and Shin grew increasingly irritated
"Don't get too upset" I pat his shoulder
"Oh, I'm not upset," He says visibly upset
"If you're that upset, why don't you go over to them and say "Cecily is my woman! Hands off!" Aug suggests
"You...What are you talking about?!"
"Hey, you guys! Stop messing around and get ready, there's another demon on the way"
"!? Sieg, I would say that this is more than one"
"Yeah, there are quite a few, aren't there?"
"Plus one of them has a really high reading"
"Ah, Sieg-senpai" out of nowhere two students run towards us
"You have to run! There's a huge herd of demons heading this way!"
"How many?" Sieg asks
"There's at least a hundred of them!"
"A hundred?"
"No way" One of the knights' mumbles
"Well, I had my fun already so I don't mind passing this over to Shin," I say while grabbing Maria's hand and walking over to a tree, and sitting down with her
"Yeah...Sieg-niichan can I take care of this" Shin asks
"I suppose. Would you mind?" Sieg's answer shocks everyone
"You mean, Shin, by himself!?" Cecily tries to fight back
"This is something we can leave to Shin"
"Everyone, we'll just be in the way so stand behind him" Sieg and Chris order and everyone backs up
"It's been a while, but time for some explosive stuff. First, generate some hydrogen and compress it to a high concentration...then add some oxygen, too.." Shin thinks to himself while a herd of wolves runs towards him and something bigger behind them
"A tiger demon?!"
"That's a catastrophic class, right?!"
"Which means the other demons are running away from it"
"I hate to do this...but I'm a little upset, and I need to blow off some steam! Perish!" Shin yells out and a blue beam of fire erases everything, leaving behind a huge crater, to which the knights can only open their mouths in amazement
After the dust clears "That feels better!" Shin says while stretching
"This is who Shin Wolford is...?
"That's the power of the Magi's grandson...and our new hero...?"
"And the other one is just relaxing, acting like this is normal"
Cecily runs towards Shin "Shin-kun, are you hurt?"
"I'm fine"
"E-Excuse me, Wolford-kun...?" Merinda approaches the two "I'm, um, terribly sorry for all the rude things I said."
"Huh?"
"Wolford-kun, I envy you for being in such an incredibly blessed environment and I didn't want to be outdone by you, But seeing this now, I finally realize how different our levels are. And also Cecily-san"
"Y-Yes?"
"I'm, um, terribly sorry I lashed out at your boyfriend" Merinda apologizes and Shin and Cecily turn red
"Huh?! B-B-Boyfriend?!"

"Yet...?" both of them notice what Merinda just said and they turn away from each other while being extremely red, seeing their reaction the previous knights understand that they don't have a chance and a gentle smile appears on all of our faces
"Umm, Miyake" Maria pokes my cheek
"What is it?" I ask while opening my eyes and immediately understanding what the issue if "Didn't I say you got lucky, don't push it" I say to the person in front of me
"Y-Yes...B-But I would like to apologize, after witnessing how strong you truly are I understood that you probably could have killed me on the spot, now I know how weak I truly am and I'll try to reflect on that,s-so I'm sorry for calling your girlfriend ugly," Edwin says while bowing to us
"First she's my fiancee and second are you that big of an idiot? Why are you apologizing to me when the person in question is right right here?" I say to him in a cold voice
"I-I-I'm terribly sorry" he quickly gets on his knees and his forehead touches the ground "M-Maria von Messina, can you please forgive me for my rudeness, and I promise you that I will never come anywhere close to you nor use your name in a bad manner again, I am terribly sorry" Maria looks at me asking if that's enough, I nod
"Yeah...okay you're forgiven"
"I...Thank you very much" he gets up and bows again
"But remember what you promised, if you break one of those...." I look at him with a murderous look
"I-I'll stick to my word" and he walks away
"Why did you have to scare him so much, you know that I took his comment at face value," Maria asks me
"Just for fun also I would be a bad partner to just watch you get insulted and do nothing about it"
"Well...thank you for that" she kisses me on the cheek and burrows her head into my chest while closing her eyes
"Miyake, we're about to leave so are you coming?" Sieg asks me
"Nah, we'll stay here for a little bit and return later"
"Okay, stay safe" he walks away, I wrap my arms around Maria and close my eyes
The rest of the group leaves and we're now all alone
"Sooo..."
"Now that everyone left you want me to continue the story, right?" She looks up at me and smiles
"So we stopped right after I explained my mom and dad?" and she nods
"Ok now I'll explain what I did while all of this was happening"
"As I said mom was always working hard, sacrificing herself for me...but she always said to me "You should never give up, even if the whole world is against you", so to repay her for everything I studied hard reaching the number one spot in the whole school"
"But the situation didn't change, so after years of preparing I decided to force it to change, on the day of my 18th birthday I packed everything and waited in front of the house..."

"And eventually my father came back, after noticing me he asked what I was doing. I didn't answer and slowly walked towards him, he didn't notice that I still haven't revealed my right hand. And after meeting him face to face I stabbed him in the chest with a knife"
"So that's why you said..."
"That's why I said "again" after killing Kurt"
"So what happened next?"
"I left. I moved across the country and hoped that my mother found happiness after I killed that bastard" I finish and stare at her
"Something wrong?" She asks while tilting her head
"I just anticipated that you would be a little bit more shocked...or even have a warped image of me"
She glares at me "Yeah I'm a little shocked but why would my image get warped when you did the right thing, that bastard deserved to die"
I hug her very tightly while not saying anything and she hugs me back
"It's okay, you don't have to hold back anymore" she whispers loud enough for me to hear and my tears slowly start pouring out
"He's been holding this in for so long..."
Maria hold me in her arms, not letting go till I calmed down
"All good now?" She asks, a smile on her face
"Yeah...thanks for letting me get all of that out of my heart, I love you"
"I love you too" we bring our faces together and share a kiss, after which we lay down and close our eyes, enjoying the peacefulness of the forest

Tony, Julius, Mark, Olivia party
One of the knights stops and glares at Tony " You weakling who escaped from the magic academy..!! I'm watching you, Tony Freed...!!"
"Tony, did you do something to him?"
"Sorry. I have no idea"
Some moments later a pack of wolves attacks them
"Raaaagh! Shit!"
"And he's charging alone once again..."
"Dammit, Ferio! I told you that this is a coordinated training session!!" the instructor yells at him
Tony fires a spell at a wolf behind Ferio "That was close, Ferio-kun."
"Who told you to save me!? Don't get in my way!!"
"...and he's getting bitten by another animal..."
"Cut the crap!!" the instructor hits him on the back of the head, and Ferio falls to his knees
"We got along so well before so maybe we can work together since we have a precious chance." Tony approaches him
"....You're always like that...You're a step ahead of me...you've even ended up being able to use magic..."
"So he has a rival mentality because he's conscious of Tony..."

"Something definitely happened," Tony's classmates say in turns and made Tony start to think

"There we go..." the same thought enters Olivia's, Mark's, and Julius's mind
Tony puts his hand on Ferio's shoulder "...I'm sorry for that moment but you're my rival in my eyes. I want us to accept each other just like we did before."
"Freed...shit...I just imagined her getting along well with you...and I couldn't let that go...I'm just a puny guy"
"Ahhh, you're fine on that point!! I broke up with her right away more or less!! We only kissed after all! Relax, Ferio!!" Tony says with a cheerful smile on his face
This makes Ferio start swinging his sword around "Bitch, I'mma kill ya!!"

While that was happening
Alice, Thor, Rin, Yuri are walking in front of their group of knights
"H...Hey, have you seen her chest...It's unbelievable..." one of the guys start
"And I'm surprisingly into the glasses chick..."
"The blond girl is by far the best..."
"Fucking pedo...call the knights!" They talk in the earshot of the girls and Thor
"The guy is a cutie as well," one of them thinks to himself
"Yeah, they're gross"
"I can't stop twitching..."
"That's why we can't get along well with theeemm..." The girls express their discomfort
"Demons!! Several of them are coming!!" the instructor yells out and the knights do a little jog
"Y...You girls!! Leave this to us!!"
"Stay back!!" The knights say to them, and they engage in combat with a pack of wolves
"You..."
"Uugh..."
"Gyagh" the knights struggle to defeat the low-level demons
"They're trying to act cool..."
"Yeah, they're gross"
"Owowowow"
"You little..." the knights back away to catch their breath, and an attack flies next to them killing one of the wolves
"Screw it! We're doing this!"
"Get out!" the girls walk past them and instantly the situation turns for the better with Yuri incasing the wolves in ice and Alice blowing them up with spells
"Ngh...Ngh..."
"Rin?" Thor asks noticing that something might be wrong
"E-Electricity magic is...hard to control..."
"...Hey Yuri?
"Yes, Alice?"
"Do you...think she can control that?"
"...I can't imagine that."
"Isn't this bad?"
"Totally bad"
"...sorry, it's out of control," Rin says with a deadpan expression
"G...Get a magic barrier around everyone..." Thor shouts and soon after a big explosion occurs, after the smoke clears Rin is standing in front of the knights that are on their knees, their hair standing up
"Aagh, there we go..." Alice says while scratching her head
"I'm glad that we made it in time" Thor breathes a sigh of relief all the while the instructors look like they saw a ghost
"Y...You guys went way too far..."
And after the session finished
Every group returned and the difference between the start and the end of the training is visible right away. The students of the knight academy and the magic academy students are talking with each other, occasionally even laughing, a big change when compared to the start
"Judging from how they look, it seems like the other groups coordinated with each other very well," Aug says looking pleased
"Well...not all of them," Shin says looking at the students that we're in Alice's group
"That's why I told you to suppress your strength...your power already increased because of the magic power control training sessions we have every day." Shin scolds them grabbing Siegfried's attention
"Ahaha, we just"
"Got a little excited."
"Hey Shin" Siegfried walks towards him "Could you teach us your training method? Sometimes the devils rebel...so I think we need to raise the power of the troops."
Aug pulls Shin aside "You should be handing down that 'imagining past the mechanism specialty. It's applicable for the soldiers and the power balance between the countries won't crumble."
"...Understood...but I want to talk it over with Miyake first" Shin answers and Aug nods,
Shin leaves to inform Siegfried about this and Aug speaks up
"...Guys, listen up. Miyake and Maria aren't here yet but I'll just take the opportunity to tell you now. Every member of the 'Ultimate Magic Research Society' aside from Shin and Miyake will be placed under the government after graduation. You all would probably become a special private platoon controlled by me."
"Huh..."
"If we proceed at this rate, we'll become the strongest platoon in the world. I think each and every one of you feels this, but the huge effect in your magic is because of the guidance we received."
