Later that night, Everleigh found herself sitting at the dining table with her dad. It was more like Everleigh staring at her dad while stabbing food with a fork aggressively. As her dad peacefully enjoys his own meal, purposely ignoring his daughter's stares.

"Take a picture, it usually lasts longer." He finally says, ignoring his daughter's glare daggers.

     "Dude —"

He looks up and shakes his head, "Don't dude me."

"How else am I supposed to look or talk to you from now on," Everleigh says, waving a fork around.

"Well, I am your father. So we can start there." He shrugs nonchalantly.

    "No."

    "...Or not." Still not bothered.

"Why her?! Seriously?!" She drops her fork on the plate, "There are many women in this town and you so happen to date the woman I didn't want you to date."

"Oh, so it's that type of conversation."

"Yes, that type of conversation." She deadpans, picking the fork back up.

"Well I'm double your age, so it just seems like a right time for me to settle down," The girl chokes on her food as her dad smirks at the reaction he received, "Calm down, I'm not that horrifying."

"Yes, you are." The girl admits, whining, "— Why Lorelai Gilmore?! — A Gilmore?! —Why?"

"Because," Mark slowly puts down his cutlery and exhales loudly, " She's funny and beautiful and full of life. You should know that, you've met her."

"But I don't like Rory," The girl points out.

That surprises him, his brows creased together, "What?! Why?"

"She hasn't been the nicest to Dean," She tilts her head, reflecting on her chosen words"— Well, Dean can be bit of bad guy when it comes to their relationship as well —" She raises a finger, correcting, "But I am his best friend therefore as his best friend it's my duty to not like her."

He squints his eyes, trying to understand his daughter's logic, "You can't just dislike her because the two share some problems, it's their relationship. Not yours."

Baffled, she stops her dad, "Wait, hold up — You're taking Rory's side?"

"I'm not taking her side," He begins, defending himself, "I just think holding a grudge against someone that hasn't technically done anything wrong to you, is ridiculous."

She couldn't help herself but murmur under her breath, "You're ridiculous."

And she knew her words didn't have the right timing or the conversation for it. Especially when he used his dad's voice on her, "Everleigh."

It sends chills down her back as she straightens her posture. Her voice softens but continues bringing up the reasons, "You haven't even met the girl yet."

    "Who said I haven't?"

Her shoulders drop as she rolls her eyes, muttering the words, "Great. Just wonderful."

It was starting to feel as if the conversation wasn't going anywhere and more so tossing the subject back and forth, "Give Rory a chance," Everleigh stays quiet, "Eve."

"Now you sound like Blaze." She looks down at her plate, defeated.

"If he can be friends with her, why can't you?" He genuinely wonders.

She doesn't look at him and starts eating her food again, "Why can't we just drop this whole thing."

Her father observes the way his daughter reflected on his words and how tiny she felt so he gives a few seconds until replying, "Just...try, please. I really like Lorelai and I would like for us all to get along together."

The thing is, Everleigh, even before knowing who the mystery woman was, was aware of his feelings and how his eyes would light up whenever mentioning her. Or the way he was so nervous before going out on a date last night. She wanted her dad to be happy no matter who he ended up with. She'd put his happiness before hers and if it meant having to tolerate Rory around in a future, she'll do it. All it took for her was to just glance up at him, to see her dad looking at her hopefully.

Sighing heavily, she finally says, "Fine."

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

      Meanwhile in another household, the same topic erupted;

     "Mom!"

"Rory, that's enough." Lorelai warns, both standing in the living room together. Facing each other, "We're ending this discussion."

"It's too soon," Ignoring her mother's request, she carries on.

"Do you seriously think I was waiting for Mark to appear in my life?" The woman waves her hands around, "He was so charming and maybe, yes, it was too soon and bad timing but it just felt... right."

    "But he's Everleigh's dad."

"Oh so that's enough reason for us to not see each other — It was one date, Rory."

"So there won't be any more dates. It was just one date, right?" Rory looks at mom optimistically.

"It's my life, Rory," Lorelai defends herself to her own daughter," What happened between me and Max is our business. The only reason why you're so against this whole thing is because of Everleigh."

"No, it's not." Stubbornness kicks in as she crosses her arms, not before tugging a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Then why?" The woman pushes further, "Why don't you like Everleigh."

    "She doesn't like me."

"She's just protective over Dean. You two broke up before and she knows all about it. He was hurt. If Dean broke your heart right now, Lane wouldn't like him either. It's what best friends do for each other. — Clearly there's something else. Is it Blaze? Do you like him? Because —" Lorelai couldn't help but to chuckle dryly, "Recently I've seen you more with him than Dean."

There was hesitation. "...That's not true."

It didn't go unnoticed by the mother. "Well that wasn't so convincing."

Without a warning, Rory makes her way to her room, "I got homework to do."

Following after the girl, realisation hits her as a deer in headlights. Her heart drops at the thought of what path her daughter is going in, "So it is about Blaze. — Rory, he's Everleigh's boyfriend. She had him first."

Arriving at the room, Rory turns to her mother, "I don't want to talk about this anymore."

The two have had countless arguments before and they all would end the same. So instead of scolding her daughter over and over again, when she'd be stubborn as ever, Lorelai decides to drop the subject. Leaving it for another day or hoping they wouldn't have to come back to it in the first place. "Fine."

"Fine." Rory repeats, closing the door behind her.

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

Few days have passed by since the awkward table talk or more so Everleigh's disapproval of her dad's forming relationship. If anything the topic between her and her dad has dropped completely. Everleigh found herself more occupied with other things than spending time at home with her dad. Instead, she found more time to spend with her boyfriend than anyone else.

Which only explained why the girl was found with her boyfriend at school. Everleigh leaning against a locker with Blaze's hands on her hips. Both, too distracted as their lips locked with each other.

    Not even hearing a cough.

Then there was another cough but louder.

This time, it made the pair sigh in exasperation as they turned to the person. Everleigh's eyes widen, ready to push Blaze away from her but instead her grip on her boyfriend's shirt tightened. Blaze's expression stayed the same, more annoyed than ever.

"Sorry to interrupt this cliché moment you two have going on," Jess starts, glancing first at the girl then to her boyfriend, "But some of us are trying to attend classes."

"So?" Blaze retorts, brow arched, "You got enough space to walk around us."

"It also requires books and you two are doing it in front of my locker." Jess points at the locker, the girl is leaning against, "So would you mind?"

The girl pulls Blaze to the side, stepping back, "Sorry."

As the pair stood by the side, the girl couldn't help but to feel an awkward tension rising within each second that passed by. As she looks up at Blaze she saw him glancing at Jess, looking him up and down. With the back of her hand, she slaps his chest.

    "Ow!" He winces.

    She whispers, "Stop it."

"I didn't do anything." Blaze whispers back, defensively.

    "I saw the look."

    "What look?"

    "The look, look."

    " I don't have a look. "

    As the couple bicker between each other, Jess closes his locker loud enough to straddle them both. Blaze couldn't help but glare at the guy whilst Everleigh glanced up, eyebrows creased. Her glance met up with Jess's stare;

"Robin," Jess diverts his attention from the girl to Blaze, "Robin's boyfriend. —," The boy slowly starts taking steps back but not until making one last comment, "As you were."

Everyleigh couldn't help but purse her lips together, holding back a smile making its way to her lips. She caught a glance from the Mariano kid as he smirks, turning around and making his way to the class. She may not have known Jess for long but she knew whatever opinion the two had, (and by two she meant her boyfriend and Jess,) they had no problem getting under each other's skin.

All Everleigh had to do was look up to see her boyfriend sending glare daggers Mariano's way, puffing up his chest.

The girl rolls her eyes and pats Blaze's chest, "Let's go, big guy. Wouldn't want you to blow up like a blueberry."

She leaves his side, making her way to the class but Blaze stays put, "I didn't know you two were getting that close."

That makes her stop, "we're not?"

"He called you Robin. That's a nickname. Only people you're close with have nicknames." Blaze points out.

"I call you Blaze." Now it was her turn to fire back as she crosses her arms, "That's a nickname."

"— Used by everyone." He finishes her sentence that didn't need finishing, "Everyone calls me Blaze."

"Can we—", she rubs her eye, sighing as she walks up to Blaze again, "—Not do this here? Please."

He pauses, exhaling heavily, looking down at her, "Okay."

It felt like a weight was lifted off her shoulders and she went on her tiptoes, giving him a quick kiss, "Thank you!"

But no matter what Everleigh was doing, Blaze still was worried.

    And Everleigh was not.

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

Everleigh was convicted Dean had one brain cell working. And even then she was convicted half of that one brain cell barely made its effort to work. The girl has made perfectly clear to her best friend that she wasn't keen on Rory but somehow he still was standing there, in front of her with puppy eyes, begging.

Begging to go with him for Rory's Shakespeare play.

    Shakespeare.

She hated Shakespeare. Especially Romeo and Juliet. Dean knew that.

Rory plus Shakespeare, equaled her worst nightmare.

So here she was arguing over the play writer, "Romeo and Juliet were never in love, they were in love with the idea of it. It's just a story of two teenagers who are desperately clinging to one another because they have no sense of identity due to the limits their parents placed upon their lives. No one can change my mind, not even Leonardo DiCaprio."

Everleigh exhales harshly, not realising her little vent took her breath away. Dean on the other hand was amused, "Didn't think you hated the story that much."

"Sorry, Shakespeare's stories aggravate me and his portrayal of women." The girl mutters.

Dean nods slowly until he pauses, his eyebrows knitting together, "I thought you liked Othello."

"No, I can tolerate Othello, only because of Emilia. She is decent-ishly portrayed as a woman. Not a lot."

    "Right."

"Not coming to the play though." Everleigh confirms.

That makes Dean slouch his shoulders, "Please, even if it's not for Rory. You could be there for my company. More bonding time."

The girl deadpans, "We've been bonding for many years Dean. Bonding so much my dad considers you as his son and your parents consider me as their own child."

"Okay, no need to go into details." Dean rubs his nose, "I just miss spending time with you."

That warms Everleigh's heart but also makes her want to punch him. She points a finger and squints her eyes at him, "I hate you."

━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━

Dean better be grateful he has one funny, amazing, supportive and charming best friend. She was willingly coming to watch a Romeo and Juliet play. May to add she travelled all the way to Chilton for it. These things never happen.

She wouldn't say willingly, however, it was more like a guilt trip or a threat in her opinion.

So here she was, at the Chilton Shakespeare Festival, in the middle of the show watching God knows what at this point. It felt as if Ice Age Era met Romeo and Juliet or something along the lines, "— You soft! What light through the yonder window breaks! It is the east, and Juliet is the sun."

Everleigh cringes, scrunching up her nose, "Are you sure this is Shakespeare?" Sookie asks, as the same question pops in the young girl's head.

She was more so glad she technically didn't have to suffer through the play on her owns and she had company more than from one person. Instead of it being just Dean by her side, she was also surrounded by Sookie, Lorelai and Lane.

Not the best company but that will do for now:

"What's with the grunting?" Dean questions as he watches the play unfolding.

"Probably constipated. I would be too," Everleigh mumbles , receiving muffled laughs from the group and a nudge from her best friend, "What? You never know."

"I wish Luke was here." Lorelai hopes. "He could translate for us."

Everleigh chuckles, receiving yet another jab in the side from Dean, "What now?!" She whispers, "Lorelai's not wrong. Luke is probably from that age himself. Wouldn't surprise me if he met the dude."

The comment didn't go unnoticed by Lorelai as she laughs, high-fiving the teen. However, before she could add anything Rory appeared from behind.

"Hi," She warmly greets, glancing at everyone, even at Everleigh. Smile still not faltering, she told her dad she'd try so she plastered a smile onto her own face.

Dean greets her along with everyone else and Sookie compliments, "Oh, honey, look at you. You look like a princess. Doesn't she look like a princess?"

The question was directed towards her best friend, Sookie better be asking Dean cause there was no way she'd answer that question. "Yeah, she looks beautiful."

"Mom made the dress," Rory proudly says looking at Lorelai.

Lorelai muffles, "Not to mention the girl inside it."

Everleigh pulls a face at the comment and Rory retorts, "Hello, gross."

    "I'm just saying."

"I'm getting kinda nervous," The Gilmore teen admits.

Everleigh glances around as she mentions, "I just hope your act is way better than these fools, it's like watching a train wreck right now." She crosses arms, making eye contact with the nervous Chilton girl, "You'll be great."

"Thank you," Rory couldn't help but be smitten by the compliment, "I think act three is starting up."

"Henry's act," Lane perks up, "How do I look?"

"You may wanna hold a phone up to his face, so he'll recognise you." Rory adds.

Lane gives her a look before mumbling under her breath and dipping away from the small group. Not even a second flies past as a blonde teen, she hasn't seen before, appears out of nowhere, grabbing onto Rory's arm, "I need you."

And just like that Rory was dragged away without even trying to wait for the girl to respond. Everleigh couldn't help but ask, "Who was that?"

    In unison everyone replies, "Paris."

    "Ah, gotcha."

"She goes to school with Rory." Lorelai adds.

"Thank you, by the way," Dean leans into her side. Everleigh raises a brow, not knowing what he is thanking her for, "For encouraging Rory. I appreciate it."

"I said I would try," She responds but as she did, her eyes were scanning the crowd, seeing if there was anyone she recognised and there was. But as her eyes settled on the person she didn't know whether to be happy or nervous. The same person that flattered her heart, made it stop beating for a second there, "I'll be right back."

She didn't even wait until she got some sort of a reply for Dean, she was more focused on someone else.

Everleigh wasn't the one to worry, to stress over. She maybe will think about it or overthink things but she tries to live her life stress-free. At least she tried. But as soon her attention landed on one certain individual, suddenly she was worried sick. She could throw up from just how worried she was.

"Blaze," She nervously approaches her boyfriend.

"Eve," Seeing the girl, his eyes widen, "What are you doing here? You hate Shakespeare or his plays."

She tries putting on a non worried smile across her face, (She had no idea if that even was a thing,). She softly laughs, "I could ask you the same thing."

Blaze struggles to answer, looking around as if the answer was in the crowd but sighing he slowly says, "Rory asked me."

    "Oh."

That's all that came out of her mouth. In all honesty, she had nothing working in her mind. She was more focused on the hurt she felt from him. Again.

"Eve—," Blaze slowly starts but Everleigh cuts him off.

"—I thought you said you had to babysit your sister tonight," She looks down to her feet, the teen couldn't look at him.

"I was supposed to." Blaze carefully replies, "But things changed, so that's why I'm here. — I only just arrived."

"Right before Rory's act," Everleigh mumbles.

"It's not—,"Blaze gets cut off by her best friend who looked equally as shocked as her.

"Blaze," Dean begins, studying Everleigh's reaction and then Blaze's, "What are you doing here?"

"I—" The boy stammers. He glances at his girlfriend and his friend. Lost at words.

So Everleigh helps him. As she coughs, still avoiding eye contact with him, "I told him to come. —Let's go, Dean. Lorelai wants us back."

Lorelai did not gesture a thing.

"Oh, okay." Bewildered by the couple he wasn't convinced but had no say either way as the girl dragged him away. As Blaze gets further away from them, Dean looks at the girl, "Are you okay?" She nods, "Are you sure? Cause that was weird."

"Well, welcome to my life where things are never normal."

He stops the girl, "I'm serious. Are you okay? You look upset."

"I'm fine," She shrugs it off, "Just chillin' and livin' with the vibes. "

Dean wasn't convinced, "What did he do?"

"We had a disagreement," She lies, "I'll get over it."

And just like that Dean dropped the subject for her sake and the two carried on with the show. Blaze did not dare to approach the girl, instead he'd glance at her the whole time while Everleigh herself was ignoring it.

She's going to get over it.

    She always does.
