Hunter and Luz were sitting in the kitchen of the Owl House, Luz staring starry eyed outside of the windows.
"So what's weird about the snow here? Rain boils, sometimes it rains knives, there's firebees," Luz trailed off. "What's terrifying about the snow of the Isles?" Luz excitedly leaned over the table, staring straight into Hunter's face.
Hunter looked at his hands, trying to think about it.
"I think the snow here just makes you cold, there's some parts of the Isles where it has other properties, but here it's just annoying." Hunter looked back up at her. She cocked her head to the side.
"You don't know? Wow, I'm surprised, you're usually an encyclopedia about this kind of stuff!" She said cheerfully, flopping back over her chair.
Hunter stiffened. "I couldn't really... get out and around enough to learn about it." He said quietly. Luz's face fell in realization.
"Ahh, birdbrains! I'm sorry Hunter, I didn't think about that." Luz tried, moving over to use Hunter's head as an armrest.
Hunter chuckled. "Birdbrains? You mean Eda?" He said sarcastically, falling to the floor to throw Luz off of him. Luz laughed along.
The duo's heads perked up as they heard a ring from Luz's scroll though. "Just a sec, I think Amity is calling!" Luz said happily, skipping over to get her phone.
Hunter thought Luz's relationship with the youngest Blight was really sweet. He'd bully them about it, teasing Luz when she got flustered, but it made him genuinely happy to know that Luz had someone like Amity to care for her in that way.
"Mhm, of course, let me ask Hunter and Eda!" Hunter overheard Luz from the living room, looking up to give her an answer.
"Hunter, do you wanna go with Amity, the Blight twins and me to the Knee in a bit?" Luz asked, covering the bottom half of her scroll.
Ah, the Blight son. Shit.
Hunter admittedly felt odd around the subject of that boy. Their first conversation had been awkward, sure, which was fine he supposed, but every time they saw each other after that something new happened. Maybe Edric hugged him, or looked at him a bit longer than usual, or it really could have been anything that was beginning to set Hunter off. He didn't recognize these feelings he was having, so as happy as he felt being near the other boy, he feared it just as much.
But he can't disappoint Luz.
So, begrudgingly, he nodded with a small smile, Luz jumping up and down.
"Woo! I'm gonna go talk to Eda now but Hunter said yes! I'll text you what Eda says! Okay, bye Amity..." Luz got shy at the end of the phone call, Hunter assuming Amity had said something sweet to her.
Luz stormed up the stairs, and Hunter could hear some muffled conversation followed by a happy squeal.
"I don't know though, kid, maybe I should go with you guys. Scouts could be out anywhere looking for you, and Hunter." Hunter heard Eda say as she came down the stairs with Luz.
Luz nodded. "Normally I would ask you to come with, but Hunter with his staff, the twins, Amity's new powers, and my glyphs should be able to get us out of anything that happens. But if it makes you feel better, feel free to!" Luz said, gathering her winter clothes.
Eda smiled fondly. "Alright, there's safety in numbers. Just call me if something happens, twerps," she finished, ruffling her hand through Luz's hair.
Hunter had been wanting her to do that to him since he got there. It felt like a silly thing to want, but the way Luz always smiled afterwards made Hunter feel warm inside.
So, he decided to get up and sit over where Luz was sitting, hopefully hinting to Eda what he wanted.
Eda looked down at the blonde boy sitting next to Luz, who seemed more shy than usual. She figured she'd take a chance, that Hunter would just move away if he wasn't ready.
She tentatively reached out a hand to Hunter's head, Hunter smile growing. Eda beamed at the happy face he was making, ruffling gently through white locks of hair. Hunter closed his eyes and giggled, a sight that caught everyone off guard. (off golden guard haha guys do you get it it's because hunter used to be the golden gu-)
Eda felt her heart warm at the scene of Hunter openly being affectionate and receiving care. Hunter looked back up at her, blinking before he stood to go to his room. He felt a lot happier than he's been in a while.
Yes, Eda did cry when he went upstairs. Not the point.

Hunter came back down the stairs, looking forward to going to the Knee with his new friends. He knew if he was asked about these kinds of plans a few months ago, he would have rudely shoved Luz off and went to his room. Then he would have had a breakdown about upsetting her.
But he felt nice this time.
"Hunter! You ready to head out?" Luz asked, pulling on her boots. Hunter smiled and nodded, grabbing his palisman.
"Wanna ride there on mine?" He asked, since he assumed Eda would be keeping Owlbert with her. Luz nodded, grabbing a small pile of glyphs.
"Alright Eda, we're heading out now!" Luz exclaimed from the door. "Byeeeee!" Hunter shouted, the two of them hopping onto his staff, riding off into the sky.
"How do you know how to get to the Knee?" Luz asked.
"I've had my fair share of missions up here, so I'm familiar enough with the area," He finished, banking downwards to the snowy grounds.
Hunter politely helped Luz off of the staff, poking her in the arm with it as he walked in front of her.
"Oh Titan Hunter, I'm simply done for!" Luz exclaimed dramatically, falling into a pile of herself in the snow.
Hunter made a disgusted face, chuckling as he helped her up.
"C'mon, we've gotta go find the Blights, human." Luz scoffed as they walked on into the depths of the mountain.
Emira lay on the cold chunks of snow on the ground beneath her, stretching out as she listened for any on-comers.
She glanced over to see Amity setting up a wall of defense as Edric built up a pyramid of snowballs.
She smiled to herself. Edric had started to grow into the older brother role more and more as of late.
Her smile faltered when Edric tried to put abomination goop inside the snowballs, Amity's expression speaking for itself.
"That should be illegal," she sighed, circling her finger to remove the goop and return it to the canteen on her hip. Edric huffed.
"It wasn't a bad idea, Mittens. You're just mad you can't make it work!" He said, elbowing her arm.
Amity blinked at him. Then threw a snowball directly into his face. He fell to the ground with a surprised shriek.
"Mittens!" Emira's scolding tone was cancelled out by her laughing at Edric frantically swiping snow off of his face.
"Ugh you are so not getting to stay late at the Owl House next time, Titan this tastes awful," Edric groaned, still wiping snow off of his skin.
Amity chuckled. "Yeah yeah sure. You deserved it."
As Emira watched the scene unfold, she started to hear footsteps and distant bickering.
"Guys, guys! Get down!" She whisper-shouted, darting behind the wall as she loaded up her arms with ammunition.
Edric snickered at her as he grabbed a few, Amity smirking from behind.
"I was not involved in this," Amity said, relaxing back into the boulder behind her to observe.
The twins turned to her. "Shh!" They exclaimed in unison.
She put her hands up defensively as she heard the steps and conversation get louder. Amity crouched down to avoid being seen, letting out a bit of abomination goop from her canteen. She motioned for it to fall in front of Luz and Hunter so they'd know the Blights were near by. Now all they have to do is wait.
"Amity? You around here?" Luz shouted, cupping her hands over her mouth to amplify her voice.
"You sure we're on the right side? We've been looking around for a bit now," Hunter asked, scanning the area for any signs.
Luz shrugged. "We should look a bit longer on foot, then maybe go again on your staff? I'm not sure." She turned back to the direction they were walking in, pausing in her steps to notice something on the ground.
"That's... curious..." She said quietly to herself, kneeling down to observe the purple substance on the snow.
"Is this... bits of abomination?" She asked louder, Hunter shrugging. She wiped it off and kept walking.
"That's weird, but hey maybe it's from Amity-"
"ATTACK!" Luz and Hunter flinched as the Blight twins screamed in unison.
"Huh?" Luz cocked her head to the side, immediately being met with a snowball to the face.
She smiled widely. "Ohh, it is on green heads!" She shouted, grabbing Hunter and ducking behind a large rock.
Hunter was breathing erratically and waving his hands around a lot, seemingly trying to calm himself down. Luz looked at him.
"Hey, Hunter it's okay! They're not actually trying to hurt us or anything, it's just a snowball fight." She said calmly, gathering some snow in her hand to form a sphere.
"Like this! See?" She said, lightly throwing it at his leg. He flinched, but then picked it up.
"So it's just... more bullying?" He asked slowly. She nodded. He smirked.
"Cool."
Hunter jolted out into the open, running ferociously at the Blight siblings.
"AHHHHH!!" Hunter screeched, chucking ball after ball of snow at their wall.
Edric found that... weirdly endearing.
Emira scoffed at his sad attempt of overthrowing their hierarchy, loading up more piles of snow to toss.
Amity chuckled to herself, running up behind Hunter as he blindly ran towards the group.
She threw one ball at the back of his head, making him pause and turn to her. He smirked, running after her as she laughed.
Luz ran over to the Blight twins, all of them nodding in a silent agreement.\
When Amity and Hunter came back around to the base, Edric, Emira, and Luz all stood and absolutely barreled snowballs at the two, no mercy,
Amity and Hunter were prepared though, and collectively launched a gigantic excuse for a snowball at the group, burying them in it.
Everyone fell to the ground, laughing until they coughed.
"We, hah, we are infants," Amity chuckled, crawling over to lean on Luz. Luz blushed, nodding along as she lay her head on top of Amity's.
"Got that right," Emira added, standing as she dusted herself off. Edric noticed Hunter was still laying by himself in the pile of snow, and curiously walked over to him.
"Hey there blondie, you still sulking over your hilarious defeat?" He asked wryly, looking down at the boy.
Hunter, though, had his eyes closed with a small smile.
He opened one eye to see Edric. "No, I just like the cold against me while my face is warm. It's weird," he said, closing his eyes.
Edric's chest did something weird at that, taking a seat next to the boy.
"You ever been in a snowball fight before? I mean, you went pretty rogue there," Edric said, laying in the snow the same way Hunter was.
Hunter looked over at Edric replicating his position, and blushed. Edric looked absolutely adorable as he was fiddling around in the snow.
All that worry from before about the weird way Edric made Hunter feel was beginning to matter less today. Hunter was beginning to like the weird ways he was feeling around people that he cared for, and he decided to try and stop running away from feelings that were good.
So, Hunter scooped a bit of snow onto his gloved finger, and plopped some onto Edric's nose.
Edric blinked, and looked up to see Hunter smiling widely at him. Edric felt it coming.
Edric's sinuses tickled as he let out the most girthy sneeze Hunter has ever heard. Hunter covered his mouth to giggle at the noise, Edric burying his face in the snow beneath him in embarrassment. Maybe the cold would stop his cheeks from warming up.
"Hey, don't hide in there," Hunter said, gently turning Edric back over. "Wanna go back to the Owl House? Get something warm to drink?" He asked gently, wiggling his foot and biting the inside of his cheek.
Edric felt himself flush again as he looked up at Hunter. Hunter might not have been that close to his face, but it felt like he was right next to him when he asked that.
Edric smiled a bit. "That sounds nice... would that be okay?" He asked. Hunter nodded, blushing himself at the timid demeanor of Edric's speaking.
Hunter stood up in a few jagged motions, reaching out a hand to Edric to help him up. Edric took it, rolling his eyes as he came to his feet.
"Such a gentleman," Edric scoffed. Hunter chuckled, walking quickly over to Luz and the Blight sisters.
"Hey guys, how would everyone feel about heading back to the Owl House to get some cider? Maybe that weird brown mush that Luz makes?" Hunter asked the group. Emira nodded, her eyebrows raised at her brother behind him.
Amity nodded excitedly. "We can keep writing and drawing for the Azura fan comic!" Luz exclaimed, hugging onto Amity's arm.
Hunter smiled at them. "Then let's head off."
Amity hopped on her palisman, Luz sitting behind her. She hesitantly wrapped her arms around Amity's waist before they took off, making both of their faces heat up.
Amity kicked off of the ground, soaring high towards the Owl Shack, as she called it.
Emira looked over at Edric and Hunter, gears turning in her mind.
"I might actually head back to the Manor, I'm kind of tired from all that winning," She lied, stretching out her arms to feign exhaustion.
Edric glared at her, flipping her off as Hunter nodded. "Okay, but you're welcome to stop by later if you change your mind." He said, adjusting his palisman.
"You getting on, Ed?" He asked quietly, feeling his face warm at the thought of Edric holding him the way the other girls did.
Edric flushed. "Yeah, yeah of course!" He said, awkwardly hopping onto the stick.
"Rest up, Em!" Edric said spitefully as Hunter shot off.
Emira watched fondly as she saw her siblings riding off into the sky. It was nice that they were getting friends, maybe lovers, and even growing up. Just a bit.
The picture has nothing to do with the oneshot I just wanted to try an edit. This one isn't like, great, because it's not really even that gay, but it does set up the next chapter so haha get catfished. Anyways I might not re read this so let's go typos!
