"Mrs. Starlight!" Flan screams.
Mrs. Starlight comes running down the stairs toward Flan. "What's wrong?" Mrs. Starlight asks very concerned.
"I'm very very sad."
"Yes, I can see that, but why are you sad?"
"The kids in the neighborhood keep bullying me. They keep on saying that because my mother ran away I'm stealing somebody else's mother. But I didn't steal you. I just want to play with you. Please make them stop Mrs. Starlight." Flan says whimpering as a tear drop, drops one by one.
"Don't cry, Flan," Mrs. Starlight replies wiping Flan's tears and blowing her nose. "Your neighbors just don't seem to understand the meaning of having an adult friend. Flan, when someone says something to you just grab those words, put it into your mouth and swallow it. Because then you are saying to them that those words have no more meaning. But, make sure you don't say anything back to them because then the words might come back out. Okay?"
"Okay. Thank you, Mrs. Starlight. You're the bestest friend I've ever had. I don't want you to ever leave my side," Flan says hugging Mrs. Starlight.
"You'll get more friends when you go to school, and the only way to do that is for you to become really smart. Let's go learn!" Mrs. Starlight says picking up Flan onto her shoulders.
"Yay!! I feel like I'm flying. This is so fun. I wish I could fly like this forever. I wish I was a bird."
"A bird? And why is that?"
"Because birds having wings that allow them to fly anywhere they want and anytime they want. And I want to fly to your house every day. And also because it's fun flying in the sky, with my wings going through the breeze. It makes me feel like I'm floating and I'm free," Flan smiles.
"You are such an imaginative little girl." Mrs. Starlight picks Flan off her shoulders and onto the couch. She crouches next to Flan and says, "Flan, listen to me very clearly and listen to every word that comes out of my mouth. I'm only going to tell you once, there's going to be a day where I'm not gonna be here to pick you back up, when you fall down. So when someone puts you down and you feel like crying, swallow that pain and fear. It's okay to be sad sometimes but other times I want you to be brave and show them that you Flan Flake will never surrender or yield to their words and doings. And Flan stay as the way you are and don't change just because you feel like there's nothing else in the world left for you because, where there is dark there will always be light to shine through it."
"Why are you saying this Mrs. Starlight?" Flan asks confused.
Mrs. Starlight knew that Flan didn't understand a signal word she had said. "Just for amusement."
"Well, that wasn't very funny."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
"Now enough of that nonsense. Let's go back to teaching and learning from one another."
"Can we race to the study room?"
"Yeah, let's do that." Mrs. Starlight and Flan line up next to one another, ready to race.
"Are you mark, get set, go!" Flan begins running with her short chubby legs while Mrs. Starlight walks slowly as possible to let Flan win.
"YES!!!!! I won!! In your face, Mrs. Starlight," Flan says sticking out her tongue.
"Wow, you're getting faster," Mrs. Starlight was proud. "Since we had so much fun, let's sit down in the study circle and began learning."
"Arg. We shall," Flan says Imitating a pirate.
Mrs. Starlight goes to the bookshelf and grabs two books. She walks over to Flan and hands one to her as she sits down. Turn to chapter two." Flan turns to chapter two. "I want you to read the first sentence of the chapter."
"Can do. How many wood can a woodchuck chuck wood... and some other woods? I'm sorry that I don't remember all of it."
"It's okay. At least you got some of it. Here let's turn to page 30."
"I'm there."
"I'll ask a question and you answer it. 4 times 2?"
"8"
"4 times 5?"
"20."
"12 times 12?"
"144." The rest of the evening Mrs. Starlight and Flan continued on until it reached 6:00.
"Great job, Flan. This is a great improvement. Your a second grader learning at a fourth grade level." Mrs. Starlight shuts her book. "It's time for you to go home."
"But, I don't want to."
"Me too, but everybody has to go sometimes."
"I understand." Flan gets up and runs over to the car waiting outside.
"Hi, Capri!" Flan says smiling. Capri looks up at Flan and walks away. She waves bye to Zander, Mrs. Starlight's son. Flan and Zander never talked to one another because they were so dilated. They would never encounter one another in any way even though Zander's mother was Flan's teacher and friend. Capri walks into the car after Flan had entered.
"Um, Capri? Can I ask you a question?" she was nervous to talk to Capri.
"Do you have to ask, to ask a question? You have already asked a question by asking if you can ask a question. So, it will be simpler if you just asked me a question instead of asking if you can ask a question."
"Is that a yes?"
"No, of course not," Capri says sarcastically.
"Oh okay," Flan turns towards the window.
"I was being sarcastic. That's a yes."
"I was wondering if you could help me with my multiplication table?"
"Why would I do that?"
"Because I asked nicely?"
"You're saying, just because someone asks me to jump off the cliff, I do it because they asked nicely?"
"That's not what I meant..."
"I don't care what you meant. Ask someone else to help you with your situation."
"Okay." Flan and Capri spent the rest of the time looking out the window. They did that for a whole 9 mins.
"Yay!! We're home!!! Our sweet, sweet home!!" Flan gets out of the car and runs towards the mansion. "Daddy, we're home!!"
"Sorry darling but your father hasn't come home, yet," the maid said carrying a tray of fruit.
Flan grabs a handful of strawberries and runs upstairs to her room.
"Flan!" the maid screams.
"Don't worry. She's probably just going to cry herself to sleep. And in the morning she's going to be all better. Like always."
"Does she know what's going to happen tomorrow?"
"No. And I don't think she should."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. In the morning, she'll wake up create something for Mrs. Starlight and say goodbye to her. There's no downside to that plan."
"What ever you say."
"I'll be going to sleep," Capri says yawning. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight to you too."
Next morning,
"Rise and shine!!" Flan screams, running down the stairs. "Mrs. Maid!!!!"
"Yes, sweety?"
"I brushed my teeth, fixed my bed, and showered, so..."
"Yes?"
"I was wondering if you could help me create a desert for Mrs. Starlight?"
"Yes, but only if Capri agrees to, too."
"I would be delighted to," Capri says walking down the stairs wearing her formal bright colored dress. Today she was wearing a yellow dress with pink hearts while Flan wore a red t-shirt with blue shorts.
"First before baking, you should wear an apron." The maid hands an apron to Flan and Capri. "Next you have to wash your hands." Flan and Capri put on their aprons and go to the sink to wash their hands.
"Who are you making your desert for?" Flan asks.
"For Zander."
"Who's Zander?"
"Your teacher's son."
"Oh. The boy you're always hanging with? The one with a bad boy but cool boy gig?"
"He's not a bad boy."
"Yes, he is. He's always finding things and not returning it. He found my hairpin and never gave it back to me."
"Why do I care?"
"Yeah, you're right, you shouldn't care."
"Next you have to get the ingredients. Since you guys are only seven years of age you can only help with the easy parts. No machine work, okay?"
"Yes," Flan says proudly.
"Let's get started. Flan I'll need you to hand me the sugar and Capri I need you to hand me the flour and I'll get the rest of the ingredients." Flan rushes to the lower cabinet where they kept all the different kind of sugar, brown, white, and some others. Capri walked to the cabinet closes to the sink and grabbed a bowl of flour. "Now let's put them in the bowl. First flour." Capri pours the flour into the bowl. "Second a spoon of sugar." Flan sprinkles it into the bowl. "And the rest is up to me.
The maid starts mixing and adding ingredients. After she had finished it she put it in the oven. "Now we wait."
Minutes passed before the oven had finished. "It's time to take it out." The maid puts on gloves and pulls out the cupcakes.
"They smell so goody good!!" Flan says smiling with glee.
"Yes, they do. The funnest part of baking, is the frosting. Each of you guys can get one of the three choices. red velvet, vanilla, or chocolate."
"Red velvet, because it's the color of a rose."
"I choose chocolate."
"Can we start frosting?" Flan asks.
"Go ahead." Flan begins frosting a heart on the first cupcake, the word "times" on the second, and an apple on the third. Capri wrote Z on the first one and C on the second. "Now let's pack those cupcakes and deliver them."
"Into the car we go!" Flan begins running towards the car.
"Yay, we're here!" She steps out of the car and into the mansion. "Mrs. Starlight!! I'm Back!! Mrs. Starlight?"
"Shutup!!!!!" Zander runs down the stairs in anger. "Don't call my mother's name! You monster!!"
"Why? What's wrong?" Flan asks concerned.
"Because of you my mother's going away."
"No, she's not. She's right there." Flan runs toward the back door. Capri and Zander ran after her. "Mrs. Starlight, where are you going?" Flan sees Mrs. Starlight heading into the car. Flan tries to run after her but Zander and Capri start pulling her back. "Let go of me! I want to go with Mrs. Starlight!"
"You can't," Capri replies.
"Why not?"
"Because my moms going to a different country."
"Is she gonna come back?" Flan asks getting nervous.
"No."
"But why? She's supposed to stay with me, forever."
"Shutup, would you?" Zander says getting frustrated.
"Let me go now!!!!! I want to go with Mrs. Starlight!!!! I want to stay with her. Please let me go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The car drives away as soon as they let go of Flan. "Mrs. Starlight!!!!!!" Flan begins to cry. "Please don't leave me!! Please come back!!!"
Zander picks Flan up and puts her into the mansion onto the couch. Flan continued on crying. He looked at Flan who was soaked in tears. He didn't see tears of anger but tears of sorrow, sadness, fear, and pain. He wanted to comfort her. She was sad and depressed that his mother had left but all he did was scream at her and blame her for his mother leaving. He didn't shed a signal tear but she was crying her eyes out. "I'm sorry," Zander whispers.
"Mrs. Starlight was the only person that helped me and encourage me to achieve in something. My mother left me, my dad's never home, my sister thinks I'm a bother, and now my best and only friend and teacher has left. I have nothing left..." The rest of the night Flan continued crying herself to sleep.
The next morning Capri thought Flan would be back to her normal self, but it was worst then last night. Flan continued crying for the whole week when she had finally stopped crying, she had stopped talking along with it. Flan was back to her old self before she had met Mrs. Starlight. A shy, quite, lonely, and depressed little girl.
