21 years ago...
"Happy birthday!" Mommy and daddy and all my friends scream when I run downstairs.
I hug them and blow the candle that had a huge 6 in the middle of the cake.
Everyone cheers and I smile.
When the cake is shared I run out to play with my friends in the jumping castle.
"I like your tiara" a girl with blue eyes compliments me.
"Thank you"! I jump higher and higher until my tiara falls to the back of the castle through the window behind me.
I touch my head and look behind me.
There it is!
I leave the jumping castle and go to the back but it's not there anymore.
I keep searching with tears in my eyes.
"Hey sweetie are you looking for this?"
I look up and a man with dark brown hair and dark eyes comes in through the fence.
My tiara was in his hand.
"Yes! Yes thank you sir." I reach for it eagerly and he hands it to me.
"How old are you now?" He asks.
"Six" I raise my head high.
"Aww you a big girl now. What's your name?"
"Leigh-Ann"
"Alright Leigh-Ann. I've got to go now. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. I promise I'll come visit you later okay? Don't tell anyone you saw me"
"Okay" I say feeling a bit sad. He was nice.
He jumps back over the fence and fast walks away.
"Leigh-Ann! Honey where are you!"
"Uh mommy I'm here!" I run back to the front of the jumping castle.
My mom has a worried look on her face.
"I was looking for you everywhere"
"Uh my tiara fell so I went to get it"
She sighs in relief.
The party goes on and everyone is dancing and singing.

10 years later...
"Happy birthday!" Everyone shouts at the same time.
"Aww" I feel tears brim my eyes.
There are so many people here, I barely know all of them.
"Thank you all"
Someone brings in a cake with many lighted candles and the number 16 in the middle.
My smile widens as mom tells me to make a wish.
I wish nothing bad would happen to my loved ones.
Then I blow out all 16 of the candles as everyone cheers and claps.
The music starts and the dancing begins.
I jump around with my friends having fun on my sweet sixteen.
I get thirsty and head to the kitchen. Wow the house was packed.
I had to brush on shoulders to get to the kitchen.
When I get there I grab a glass and fill it with water and gulp it all down.
Ah that was refreshing.
"Happy birthday sweetie"
I turn around and see a man. A familiar looking man wearing a hood.
"Oh um thank you" I say politely.
He hands me flowers. Not just any flowers.
Daffodils my favorite.
My eyes light up immediately and I smile.
"Thank you these are beautiful".
He smiles back with what looked to be tears in his eyes.
A group of girls enter the kitchen and it gets a little crowded.
I look around to see if I can spot the stranger but he was gone.
Weird.
I shrug it off placing the flowers in a vase and joining my friends back on the dance floor.

4 years later...
"You having a good time?" Jes a friend of mine screams over the music.
"Yeah!"
We jump moving our bodies to the beat of the music.
"Everyone! We have a special lady in out midst tonight. None other than the beautiful Leigh-Ann Dark herself" the DJ says into a microphone.
"And today is her 20th birthday. Can we all wish her a happy birthday in three...two..one"
"Happy birthday!"
Everyone screams as the spot light lands on me. I smile so hard I feel my cheeks start to hurt.
I turn back to Jes raising my eyebrow.
"You did this?"
"Ahuh. Happy birthday girl!"
I hug her so tightly.
"Thank you so much!"
When we both get tired, we head over to the bar and get some drinks.
Jes leaves to the bathroom and I stay there sipping my drink.
The sound of my phone brings my attention to it.
Jes: Leigh please help. I'm at Ron's down the road not far from the club. This asshole doesn't wanna let me go. Come fast please.
I furrow my brows.
Who the hell is Ron?
I get up from my seat and head out the club.
Tom, my driver immediately gets out the car when he sees me.
"Ready to head home ma'am?"
"Uh no. I just wanna make a quick stop somewhere. I'll be right back"
He has hesitation written all over his face but I start walking before he changes his mind.
I go down the street but I don't see anyone. People are out drinking or coming back from work but I can't spot Jes' blonde hair anywhere.
I take out my phone and send her a text.
I don't see you. Who's Ron?
I wait and she doesn't reply.
A car stops besides me and the driver's side window rolls down.
"You seem lost sweetie. Can I help you?"
The man looks familiar, dark brown hair and...what are the colour of his eyes?
"Uh I'm looking for Ron. If you know who that is."
"Why don't you hope in my car and I'll take you there?"
Uh creepy much?
"No thank you. By the way you look familiar. Have we met before?"
Before he could reply. Another car stops near me and I see Tom's familiar face.
"Ma'am are you alright?" He asks concerned.
The car with the creepy stranger starts and speeds off.
"Uh yeah, yeah I'm fine. Was just looking for Jes"
"Why don't you get in the car and we'll find her"
I nod and hope in dialing Jes' number. It rings then goes to voice mail.
I dail it again and she picks on the fourth ring.
"Jes? Where the fuck are you?"
I hear sobbing on the other end and I hold my breath.
"L-Leigh please come get me. I'm at the back of the club"
"What happened?" I demand feeling fear creep into my heart.
"Please just come okay?"
"Okay on my way"
"Tom please get to the back of the club"
"Alright ma'am"
It takes us five minutes to get there and I immediately spot Jes blonde hair as she leans on the wall.
I rush out of the car to meet her.
"Jes. What happened?"
She starts crying when she sees me. I noticed there's blood on her skirt and I get even more scared.
"T-this guy. He-he r-ra-" she bursts into more tears. I hold her to me.
I've known this girl for a month now. We've just started developing our friendship and seeing her like this breaks my heart.
"Tom. Please take us to the hospital"
She limps to the car and cries in pain when she sits down.
We get to the hospital in no time and she's taken into a room.
A few minutes later I see mom and dad rushing in.
"Oh thank god you are okay?" Mom hugs me tight.
"M-mom something happened to Jes. She was bleeding and she seems hurt" I start crying.
"Oh honey it's alright okay"
The doctor comes out then.
"Are you here for Jessica Harper?"
I nod fast.
"Well I'm sorry to say that she was raped. The tearing of her hymen caused a bit of complications and loss of a lot of blood"
I'm standing there staring wide eyed at the doctor.
She was raped?
This is all my fault. I should have gone with her to the restrooms.
The doctor leaves and I'm crying harder.
"It's my fault mom. I should have been there" I sob into my moms arms.
"Shh it's okay love"
My dad rubs slow circles behind my back. Calming me.
A nurse comes to inform us that we could see her now.
My parents allow me to go in first.
Jes is there on the bed, her eyes bloodshot from crying.
"Hey" I manage to say.
"Oh Leigh." She opens her arms and I run into them.
She doesn't hate me?
"I-I'm so sorry" I cry.
"No-no it's not your fault. I'm fine okay"
I nod untangling our arms to sit on the chair besides her.
"The doctor said there were some complications"
"Yeah but it didn't cause any damage I'm fine Leigh"
"What happened?" I ask softly.
"When I left the restroom this guy Dan I think he's friends called him grabbed me by the arm and to the back of the club.
"People were too wasted to realize that I was forcefully being taken.
"We walked a while until we got to Ron's, a mechanics shop. He dropped my hand and asked me to spend the night at his place.
"I told him I didn't know him but he insisted. He didn't seem to mean any harm it seemed like all he wanted was to get me to agree to spend the night with him.
"I pretended to be scrolling through my phone like I'm ignoring him when I sent you that text.
"He got frustrated that I wasn't listening to him so he grabbed my phone telling me he really liked me.
" I told him I had a boyfriend and that seemed to get him angry because he grabbed me harder and forced me to the ground and he-he raped me.
"It was like his friends were around because they shouted his name when a car was driving by but he did stop.
"The person in the car saw what was happening because I was screaming my lungs out Leigh. I was a virgin.
"The man in the car grabbed the guy and they were both in a fight.
"I chose that moment to escape and ran to the back of the club grabbing my phone with me.
"I was so scared Leigh. If not for that man that saved me, I think the guy would have killed me" then she's crying again.
"I'm so sorry Jes. When I saw your text. I thought Ron was a person. I should have gotten there on time. I'm so sorry"
"It's alright Leigh. I'm fine"
I hug her again holding her hand in mine.
