The ship was quiet and weary as Echo recalibrated the systems. The group was still catching their breaths from the unpleasant fire fight, and tried their best to rest easy knowing that the mission was over and they were finally on their way back to Cid.

Cass was beside Tech once more, gently running her fingers through his hair as he tiredly laid his head in her lap. She was happy to soothe him and keep him still in one spot finally, but she spend the whole ride to Ord Mantell tense.

Tech's exhaustion had taken over too quickly and he didn't allow the time—nor did he care—to throw on a new pair of blacks before easing into Cass' lap. Her neck was aching from keeping her eyes averted from his still bare chest—but luckily, Tech didn't seem to notice through his soft snores.

Tech tossed a bit and pulled her free hand towards his chest, clutching her fingers in his and holding them against his steady heartbeat. The thumping between his ribcage and warmth of his skin made her suck in a breath.

Hunter spun his knife absentmindedly between his fingers, leaning back in the passenger seat across from her. He noticed the hiss that escaped from her lips and heard how her own heartbeat sped up. He chuckled silently and perked a brow at her, ready to bombard her with teasing words at any moment.

She tilted her head and squinted as if to warn him away from his antics. He smirked and raised his hands defeatedly, letting her know he wouldn't start anything—but her reaction didn't go unnoticed.

Maybe if Tech wasn't resting peacefully, Hunter might have riled Cass up to his liking, but the sergeant remembered—she needed rest too, after all. She saved his brother and little sister, and protected them when he couldn't.

She nodded gratefully and leaned her head back in an attempt to relax a little. But as her eyes shut and she felt her body grow heavy, the ship whirred and exited hyperspace to reveal the glossy blue sheen of Ord Mantell.

Cass groaned and lolled her head. "The ride over here was way too short," she whined and tucked a half-dried frizzy curl behind her ear.

"I know, I'm sorry," Echo shook his head from the pilot's chair. "We can all rest a bit after picking up this score."

"Thank the force," Cass sighed and gently scratched the underside of Tech's chin to ease him awake. "I feel like I got ran over by an AAT."

"Runnin' with us is a bit different, huh?" Hunter chuckled quietly. "Not like those Jedi cruisers?"

"I'll say," Cass blew out a breath. "I don't know how you boys do it. You sleep...what...every three rotations?"

"Sounds about right," Wrecker nodded. "And I don't know if Tech ever sleeps. This is the longest I've ever seen him out, ha," he laughed and gestured to the drowsy clone in her lap.

"Well, we did give him some medication for the pain," Echo pointed out. "Although being in his girlfriend's lap probably hasn't hurt either-"

"Echo!" Cass scrunched her brows and bit back a childish grin.

"I'm just sayin'," Echo laughed and steered the Marauder into Ord Mantell's atmosphere.

Cass shook her head as her cheeks grew hot. Tech continued to stir in her lap as she tickled the skin of his jawline.

He squeezed his eyes shut and wiggled away from her fingertips, then let go of her other hand to protectively rest his palm against the wound on his abdomen.

"Tech," Cass whispered and cradled the back of his head. "We're heading back to Cid's right now."

He hummed irritably and pursed his lips. He rolled carefully onto his side and tucked his face into the soft of her belly.

"I'm perfectly fine where I am," he grumbled drowsily, his voice was slightly muffled by the fabric of her clothes.

Cass chuckled lightly and traced the permanent indent in his short curls of where his goggles would be. "Too tired to get up?"

"Too comfortable," he corrected with a lazy smile hidden between them.

"Okay well you can stay on the ship but-"

Cass paused as a waft of familiar energy breezed past her. Her hands ceased running through Tech's hair, which prompted him to squint up at her.

"What is it?" he mumbled and furrowed his brows.

Her mouth curled into a compact grin as she recognized the strong presence of a certain captain hiding beyond the Marauder. Her eyes peered around distantly, as though she could somehow see beyond the confines of the ship's hull. She tightened her mouth and perked a brow down at Tech.

"I have a feeling you're gonna wanna come with us after all," she prompted quietly and excitedly bit her inner lip.

Tech rubbed his eyes and began to sit up. Cass eased him with her own hands, then placed his goggles over the engineer's head.

"What are you insinuating?" he questioned as he adjusted his lenses.

"Just trust me. You'll find out soon enough," she teased and stood up with a bit more pep than before.

The ship landed with a thump and the group prepared for their exit. Wrecker grabbed a hold of the lizard cage, while Omega sided happily between Hunter and Echo. The four of them wandered out of the ship while Cass still lingered near Tech.

"Could you bring me a new pair of blacks please?" Tech requested politely as he raked a palm against his bandages.

Cass nodded and rushed to his bunk, then searched through old projects and tools and tossed aside parts until she found a suitable top to replace his swampy blood-stained one. She hurried back only to find Tech attempting to pull himself up with a pained expression.

"Easy, easy," Cass stuttered and threw his shirt on the seats. "Let me help you."

She wrapped one arm around his lower back, then held out her other hand for Tech to grasp and use to steady himself. He grunted shortly and slowly rose to his feet. After he caught his breath and gradually released Cass' hand, he noticed that her touch never left the skin on his back.

They were nose-to-nose, their eyes searched each other's faces like they were studying a map of the galaxy. Cass' thumb barely grazed over his skin before she realized just how close they were—or rather, how close she was to his bare chest, and lips that somehow weren't already on hers.

She swallowed hard and pulled away, biting the inside of her cheek as she reached down to grab his crumpled shirt. She straightened out the fabric and cleared her throat, keeping her eyes anywhere but straight.

"Could you um...can you lift your arms for me?" she mumbled and gestured the shirt towards him.

Tech hummed—never once letting his gaze leave her face—and lifted his arms slowly into the air, careful not to pull at the tender skin on his abdomen.

Cass was already taller than most, but she didn't realize just how much bigger he was than her when she tried to reach over him. She worked with the clone, easing his arms through the fabric and eventually popping his head through the top. She tugged the fabric over his body, painfully aware of how soft his skin was as she draped the clothing.

She finally got a better look at the tattoo on his left deltoid and glanced at it long enough to make out the shape. It was a pixelated skull and electric bolts, just like the emblem that adorned his custom helmet. It was on the smaller side, and didn't take up the entirety of his shoulder, but it was just enough that it had Cass intrigued.

Did he get the tattoo idea from the emblem, or did the emblem blossom from the tattoo? Did he have more, or just this one? When did he get this? Maybe the same time as his brothers?

By the time those questions had hurried through her mind, she noticed Tech was watching her intently and she tore her eyes away from the tattoo altogether.

Tech's grin became less and less subtle as he continued watching her through his tinted goggles. He didn't bother to feel self-conscious under her gaze, for he was too busy admiring every movement, every breath, every meager ounce of skin-on-skin contact she blessed him with.

She was strong and he knew it, he had seen her fight effortlessly and hold her own in battle—not to mention she didn't seem to struggle when carrying Omega, let alone when she managed to haul him back to the ship after the attack.

So it made it all the more so noticeable to him just how gentle she was being then. So much power hidden behind a rosy freckled face, being tucked away just for his sake so she could tenderly work around him.

As she raised her hands to adjust his goggles, he could see her heart pulse beneath her chest, and he knew it was surely pounding just as hard as his.

"Should we get going?" Cass piped up quietly as her eyes fell back in line with his.

"If I remember correctly, I've had the most near death experiences today so I believe I get some sort of exception," Tech shrugged with a finger raised. He pulled his goggles off his eyes and rested them around his neck. "We can catch up with them, don't worry."

Cass' lips parted slightly as Tech gingerly intertwined his fingers with hers and leaned forward. She instinctively lifted her chin and met his lips in the middle. She expected the kiss to be short and sweet, but he delved further into it with more passion than she had felt before.

Without his siblings looming, the ship became full of the energy and love and passion between a Jedi and her clone.

She met him with the same energy, pushing against his chapped lips with a rivaling force. She felt all her pent-up anxiety escape her body as he squeezed her hands and pulled away for a second—just to close in again.

She smiled into the kiss, letting euphoria and relief wash over her. Her heartbeat was drumming and she was running out of breath, but that didn't stop her from greeting him with a 'thank the Maker you didn't bleed out and die in my arms today' kinda kiss.

Tech released her hands and moved his fingers towards her face, one hand cradled her cheek while the other laid at the nape of her neck to pull her closer. He hummed softly as his body warmed with emotions he never thought he would feel.

He pressed on a few more moments before slowly pulling away and resting his forehead against hers—now more comfortably than before without his goggles. Her slid his tongue over his barely swollen lips, and pressed another kiss to her cheek.

Her breath hitched, but her eyes remained blissfully closed as he continually peppered her face with slow and intimate kisses against her flushed skin.

"I'm very...appreciative...of you...Cassiopeia," he spoke lowly between kisses, and guided his hands to rest at her waist. "Gar cuyir jate'shya than te me'suum'ika bal kara." [You are greater than the moon and stars]

She blushed red like Craitian soil and let her shaky hands settle just beneath his collarbones. The combination of his affectionate words and ardent touch was overwhelming—even for her.

"I'm um—I'm just...glad you're okay," she mumbled the first thing that came to mind as she caught her breath and fiddled with the fabric of his blacks between her fingers.

"There is no need to be modest with me," he appealed and tucked a webbed strand of hair behind her ear. "You saved me and Omega today, and for that I cannot be more grateful," he crooned against her skin and laid his cheek against her temple.

She recollected the day's earlier events and naturally wrapped her arms around him, as if doing so would protect him from her own irrational imagination of what could have happened.

"You are an extraordinary person, ner kar'ta, and I only wish to spend my days emphasizing this fact until you recognize it yourself," he pleaded with a tone as soft as Naboo silk.

With another kiss placed at her temple, she hummed contently and nuzzled her face into his neck to hide her hot cheeks.

"You've gotta stop saying things like that...it greatly affects my ability to speak properly," she threw his previous words back at him and laughed breathily.

He chuckled lightly and drew circles with his thumbs into her sides, just barely missing the skin peeking from between her clothes.

"Then I'll apologize now for all the future adulations," he pulled away to gaze down at her, "because I don't plan on ceasing any time soon."

She tore her eyes away from his amorous expression to run her hands down his arms and thread their fingers together.

"Come on, amans puer [lover boy], we really should get going," she bit back a grin and gently tugged on his arms.

He raised his brows and stood his ground, prompting her to explain. She gasped dramatically and tilted her head.

"Oh? Tu nescis unum adhuc? [You don't know that one yet?]" she teased.

His eyes darted to the side for a split second, racking his brain for any similar words or phrases he might have previously tucked away. It wasn't anything like he had heard before, and it certainly had him interested.

He glanced back her way, and noticed the mischievous glint in her eyes.

"I'm not familiar with that dialect, what is it?" he questioned with peaked brows.

"Gatal...it's the native language of my home planet," Cass answered and swung their arms together lazily.

"How curious," Tech sighed and gazed at her with a lopsided grin. "Perhaps...you could teach me?"

Cass' eyes twinkled as she shuffled closer until they were toe-to-toe. "Maybe...but only if you give me piloting lessons," she suggested with her brow quirked.

"Deal," he murmured before he leaned down to kiss her lips one last time.

Cass exhaled happily and her eyes remained closed for a few moments. "Paciscor." [Deal]

"Cass?" Omega's little voice whirred through the comms.

Cass released one of Tech's hand to raise her wrist. "Yes, ad'ika?"

"Do you or Tech was some Mantell mix? Hunter said Wrecker and I could get some since the mission is over and I thought it might make Tech feel better," she inquired sweetly.

Tech's eyes softened and his fingers tightened around Cass'.

"That's very thoughtful of you, I think that would definitely help him heal faster," Cass beamed while smiling up at the clone.

"Okay! I'll get an extra bag!" she chirped. "And I'll make sure Wrecker doesn't eat any of it."

"Hey!" Wrecker's voice whined in the background.

"Sounds perfect, we'll meet you at Cid's," Cass replied with an airy laugh.

Omega cheered in response, then turned off her comms. Cass gently tugged on Tech's hand once more and led him towards the exit. She steadied him carefully as he made his way down the landing steps and onto the slick Ord Mantell earth.

As they walked shoulder-to-shoulder, Cass felt a continual pull of the energy toward's Cid's parlor. She tried her best to keep her composure for Tech's sake, but the excitement was flooding through her. Tech picked up on the change of energy, and glanced down at her every few meters.

She knew something he didn't, and it made him itch with anticipation.

The couple ambled slowly and steadily towards the parlor. The smell of marshy lake water lingered on their clothes and in their hair, but it blended in with every other stench that drifted through the dingy alleyway.

They entered cautiously, Tech had his free hand placed protectively over his gut while Cass' eyes darted around for the captain.

Her gaze finally settled on a cloaked figure in the far booth who was slowly sipping on a drink and keeping his head low.

Tech noticed Cass' lips perk up as she dragged him alongside herself towards the figure.

"Who is that?" Tech squinted and loosely clenched his jaw as he concentrated.

"Rex," Cass answered definitely.

"Rex?" Tech repeated and leaned down towards her ear. "How can you be sure?" he whispered.

"I can feel it," Cass affirmed with quiet confidence and a squeeze of his hand.

The pair approached the concealed figure, then Cass removed herself from Tech to step forward. She placed herself besides the stranger and leaned forward to try to meet his gaze under the hood.

"Rex?" she peeped out lowly.

The figure chuckled shortly and placed his glass on the table.

"Found you," he laughed gruffly and lowered his hood.

The familiar head of blonde hair she expected appeared before her eyes. Her mouth instantly transformed into a giant grin and she couldn't stop herself from wrapping her arms around his body.

"Happy to see you too," Rex chuckled and leaned his cheek against her forehead, placing his hands on top of her forearms. "You smell awful," he mumbled after a moment and scrunched his nose.

"Don't ruin it," Cass hummed contently and leaned into him further, leaving no air between her and the captain to spare.

"And I see you're still in good company," Rex smirked as he caught sight of his enhanced brother lingering a bit away from the table.

"It's very reassuring to see you are still alive and well," Tech nodded curtly and stepped closer.

Rex narrowed his eyes at the bandages peeking out from under his blacks, then peered back into his tinted lenses. "Likewise."

Cass pulled away from Rex and patted the seat beside her, prompting Tech to ease down next to them. Tech carefully lowered himself to her level, adjoining them at the hip once again.

"So what are you doing here?" Cass questioned positively as she snuggled closer to Tech's side.

"Do I need a reason to visit my vod'ika?" Rex perked a brow, though his eyes averted as he took a sip of his drink.

"No...but," Cass pursed her lips and scrunched her brows, "I know you better than that, Captain."

Rex sighed defeatedly and shrugged his shoulders. He crossed his arms and leaned back against the booth, reluctantly turning towards the Jedi to give her his honest answer.

"I'm looking for recruits," he stated shortly, and examined their faces with scrutiny.

"We've been over this," Cass shook her head sadly. "I'll draw unwanted attention that you don't need...the whole squad will. You know that-"

"-We could find a way to work around it," he interrupted and leaned an elbow against the table. "We would keep you all safe," he pleaded with her, then met Tech's eyes.

Tech didn't take that suggestion lightly, as no one should promise that to Cass without meaning it. And as he noticed all the new scars forming on Cass' body, he became more upset with himself that he couldn't make the same promise.

How could Rex plainly offer her something he so desperately wanted to attempt himself? If he couldn't keep the woman he loved safe, how could Rex?

"We could even teach you to use a blaster instead of a lightsaber...Maker knows you're not good with one," Rex joked to ease the tension, causing Tech to drift away from his destructive train of thought.

"Hey!" Cass lightly punched his side and rolled her eyes. "You know they didn't teach-"

"-Teach you at the temple, I know," he chortled and lifted his glass to his lips. "I'm just sayin'...it could work. I'd make sure of it."

Cass considered it for a few moments.

She would love nothing more than to be by Rex's side again, fighting against the force that killed her people and countless others...the ones that put those damned chips in her brothers' heads and caused so much pain to them, especially ones like Crosshair and Wrecker.

"It's...compelling," she sighed. "But I'm not the only one with a high price on my head anymore."

"The kid, right?" Rex perked a brow and lowered his glass. "I heard you had one with you."

"Yeah...her name's Omega. Some bounty hunter was after her—and even chose to pursue the kid when she had the chance to go after me," Cass explained, and Tech subtly inched closer to her.

"Which means her bounty is probably just as high as yours," Rex nodded somberly, "which also makes her just as much of a risk."

"Exactly," Cass averted her eyes and fiddled with her fingers. "And you don't need that kinda heat with you."

"I understand. It was worth another shot." Rex mindlessly traced his thumbs along the rim of his glass. "And although I did come here with a purpose, it's...still nice to see you again."

Cass' eyes softened and she leaned forward to gently place her hands on the sides of his face and bring her forehead to his. Rex's shoulders loosened and his eyes closed. He wrapped his gloved fingers around her wrists and pressed her hands deeper into his skin.

They breathed in sync for a few moments, instantly falling into the same routine they did before and after every battle. This platonic keldabe kiss was something she did with many of the clones, but especially with Rex. And though it was usually exchanged through the hard plastoid material of his helmet, the skin-on-skin gesture made it all the more so a desperately needed reunion.

While Echo was the clone she bonded with well into the war, Rex was with her from the beginning. Cass would find Echo at night or during a calm in the mission, but Rex was the one she saw even after the mission was over.

Echo was her older brother, but Rex was her first.

Rex was always there for Cass to teach her new strategies or reassure her when a battle got heated, and it came to be very helpful for her mild temperament. And likewise, she used her peaceful attitude to remind him that there's more to life than the war—more to life than the endless death around him—that there indeed is beauty beyond the laser blasts and clanking of droids.

Beauty she hoped he would get to see one day when they eventually won the war.

From behind, Tech observed the pair—as it was the first time he'd seen the Jedi and the captain together since Tech had met Cass. His eyes softened beneath his goggles and his mouth sloped into a lopsided grin.

Tech didn't like the regs—with Rex and Echo being the exception—but it wasn't hard for him to imagine how loving she was with the rest of his brothers during the war.

He could imagine all the firm keldabe kisses such as this that she would give out before heading towards a battle, and all the reassuring hugs and playful high-fives after a mission won. He could imagine Cass giving Rex countless lessons about the force, even though Rex probably never understood it no matter how many times she explained it.

He could clearly see a young Cass being absolutely enraptured by the introduction of the clones—always asking questions and marveling at their creation, despite how generic the boys would feel amongst outsiders. He knew she no doubt had made every one of those soldiers feel like unique individuals, just as she had done with the crew.

In that moment, he cursed himself and the rest of the batch for spending so much time isolated within their foursome. Perhaps he could have met her sooner and seen this for himself. Even so, he was grateful to Rex that Cass came into his life at all.

"Hey, what's going on out here?" Cid yelled out from the back of the bar.

Cass pulled away from the captain and slipped her wrists from his grasp.

Echo squinted and moved past Hunter. "Rex?" he asked incredulously, as if he was seeing a ghost.

"Oh great. Another clone," Cid groaned and shook her head. "Just what I needed."

Rex polished off his glass, then stood to his feet and met the boys in the middle.

Cass held out a hand to Tech and he fluidly laced his fingers through hers, using her as leverage to lift himself from the booth. They hobbled over beside Rex and met the rest of the group in the middle.

"Well, don't get comfy," Cid threatened and grimaced at the brothers. "I'm done taking in strays. This ain't a clone clubhouse, 'ya know."

The Trandoshian threw her hands up and mumbled to herself as she wandered back into her office. Hunter paid no mind to her short words and instead took a step forward and finally greeted Rex.

"Captain," Hunter nodded curtly.

"It's been a while, boys," Rex admitted as he exchanged glances between Hunter and Echo.

"Where have you been, Rex?" Echo joined in eagerly.

Rex averted his eyes briefly. "Hmm. That's...a long story," Rex shrugged.

"Why don't we sit?" Hunter suggested and gestured towards the bar.

Cass helped Tech sit at the far end of the bar, while Hunter and Rex fell in line beside him. Cass slid behind the bar and filled up three cups of darkoma—an alcohol not quite as potent as tihaar, but just enough to relax the boys after their travels.

"I see you fixed your armor, Echo," Rex chuckled and picked up his drink, nodded at Cass in thanks, then gestured his glass in the trooper's direction.

"Yeah...but it was all Cass' doing." Echo glanced down heartily and planted his left hand over the red marking on his cuirass.

"You're keeping a good eye out for my boys, I see," Rex smirked proudly at the Jedi behind the counter.

"Of course," she beamed as her ears grew hot.

Cass then scoured the bar for something—anything that wasn't alcohol. She squatted towards a small hydro-cooler below the bar counter, and reached for a container of muja juice.

She picked up and swirled the glass, the dark blue liquid sloshed around as she poured it into a short cup. She placed the juice back into the cooler, then scurried over to happily perch on a chair between Rex and Echo.

"After Cass left with you guys, we led an attack with the two-twelfth on Yerbana. It was successful, but not soon after—Ahsoka and Bo Katan contacted us," Rex quickly peered Cass' way at the mention of the former Jedi.

"I remember you telling me this on Saleucami," Cass tilted her head. "Some sort of siege on Mandalore, right?"

"Right. Maul and Death Watch had completely taken over Mandalore, and Bo Katan needed our help liberating the planet. Plus, the generals were desperate to finally capture Maul—which we did," Rex explained.

Cass' eyes grew wide. "You did?" her mouth gaped and she leaned in closer.

Rex nodded somberly. "Yeah, but he didn't stay in our custody. The...the order was commanded on our way back to Coruscant," he muttered lowly, leaving the rest to assumption.

"Oh," her expression flattened and she pursed her lips. She fiddled with the cup in her hands and swirled the glass, keeping her eyes fixated on the clear liquid tumbling inside.

"It's alright...I'm just glad Ashoka and I made it out alive," Rex reassured her, though something in his voice told Cass that there was so much more behind it—so much more he wasn't admitting.

She nodded rigidly and swallowed, then set her glass aside due to the sudden churning in her stomach.

"And when the war ended, I guess you could say I've been...keeping a low profile," Rex shrugged, and swiveled towards the boys.

"Very low. Imperial files have you listed as killed in action," Tech pointed out.

"Being dead in the Empire's eyes has its advantages," Rex nodded wistfully and swigged another sip of darkoma.

"Well, how'd you track us down?" Echo squinted and leaned his elbow against the counter.

"Trace and Rafa Martez. They said a squad of rogue clones and a Jedi helped them on Corellia." Rex slowly spun in his chair and peered around at the dimly lit bar. "They told me I could find you here. And that you were traveling with a kid."

"Omega," Cass reminded the captain.

He nodded. "Who is she?"

"She's a clone, like us," Hunter added on before downing a few gulps of alcohol.

Rex's brows furrowed as he stared incredulously at Hunter. The news came as a surprise to him—but it wasn't the craziest thing he'd heard.

"Well, look who it is," Wrecker's voice bellowed from the entrance. The enormous clone pointed and chuckled heartily, not waiting a moment before scooping the captain into his arms. "Come 'ere Rex!"

Rex let out a pained groan as he peered down at his larger brother. "Good to see you too, Wrecker," he rasped.

"I thought you didn't like the regs," Omega's petite voice questioned from Wrecker's shadow.

"This one we like," Wrecker corrected her as he set Rex back onto solid ground.

Rex palmed Wrecker's cuirass and shoved him away. He then turned towards his fellow blonde and got down on a knee.

"Omega, this is Rex," Hunter gestured out a hand towards the captain.

Rex grinned tenderly at the child. "I've met many clones in my time...but never one like you," he admitted softly.

Omega squinted and leaned in, causing the captain to avert his eyes and almost shrink under her firm scrutiny.

"You're a generation one," she concluded certainly.

Rex tilted his head, the corner of his lips perked slightly. "Now how'd you know that?"

"From the lines on your face," she shrugged.

Rex chuckled lowly and glanced back at the group. "Yeah, I guess I've been around," he muttered lightly.

"You got that right," Wrecker agreed with a cheer—which soon twisted into a groan. He grasped his head and hunched over.

Cass clenched her jaw and hopped from her seat, taking both a defensive stance from Wrecker as well as from whatever words she knew were to come from Rex next.
