The next day Shin and Miyake accompanied Cecily and Maria to school. Maria and Cecily are in between Miyake and Shin with Cecily being next to Shin and Miyake next to Maria
Miyake POV
"You know Shin it isn't necessary for you to use search magic all the time"
"I guess you're right. But I just wanna make sure that there isn't anything dangerous near us"
"You do you I guess, also Maria, when do you want to meet so I can enchant your uniform?"
"Hmm...is after school okay?"
"After school, it is then" I reply to her while smiling "Cecily if you want, you can come as well"
"Eh...if it's fine then I'll take you up on that offer"
After some time they make their way to school
"Morning Miyake, Shin"
"Good morning Shin and Miyake" Aug and Thor greet us
"As expected of you two already getting familiar with the girls of this school" Aug attempts to tease us
"Good morning Aug, also don't try to irritate me so early in the morning, I will put you in a headlock," I say to him with a small smile
"I'm here! Did I make it on time?!" A young girl with blond hair by the name of Alice rushes into the classroom "I'm safe...right?"
"Although you made it...what do you think will happen to you if you barely make it in time for the first day of class," Shin asks her
"Well, you see, I was looking forward to today's lesson, I couldn't fall asleep last night, and so I accidentally overslept." She answers happily
"Let me make sure, you aren't a kid, right?" Shin asks her while looking visibly perplexed
"Nope, I'm just really excited" She answers acting like an excited kid
"Good morning everyone, homeroom is starting so please take your seats" a male, fairly good-looking instructor walks in.
Looking from the teacher's table, the first row starting from the right side that is next to the wall, towards the left: Cecily, Maria, Miyake, Shin, August, Thor, and Julius.
The second row from the right side towards the left: Tony, Yuri, Alice, Lynn, and later on Olivia and Mark
"Luckily there are only eleven of you in this class so taking attendance is easy, let's see, one, two...and eleven. Good, everyone is here. As you all know this class is the S class, the highest possible in this academy. I hope you all will live up to the expectations of the whole kingdom. This year there is an exception, every member of the faculty has agreed that we won't be teaching you guys."
"Then why are we here, sensei" I speak up while lifting my hand
"That's where you come in"
"EEHHHHH, what am I supposed to do???" I yell out completely confused
"Well, the thing is, there isn't anyone in this academy that can teach You or Shin. So we came to an agreement that you will be giving the rest of your classmates various lessons."
"HAAAAAAAAAAA??? Gimme a break, I didn't sign up for this"
"Don't worry it isn't that bad. Well, moving on from that...I'll take you guys on a tour of the place while I explain some stuff"
"Oi...and he just continues with his thing" *sigh*
"The academy consists of two buildings. The first building is where all the classrooms are and the second one consists of the faculty office, student council room, and club research laboratories. The research societies are similar to extracurricular activities or so to speak. The study of emission-type magic, the 'Offensive magic research society', the study of body strengthening magic, 'body language research society' and so on."
"If I did not have the mission of being his highness' escort then by all means I would participate in that research group..." Julius says with a happy face while thinking about the body strengthening society
"What? If you're concerned about me, then there's no need. It's alright if you join it" Aug says with annoyance written on his face
"What is it, Shin? Did you also find a research society you wanted to join? I don't think any of the research societies would satisfy you or Miyake, for that matter. You're better off if you start your own research society."
"Don't give them ideas...please"
"Hmmm...the research society which Shin and Miyake would create. That thought sounds very interesting."
"Sensei...pls don't"
"It's certainly interesting."
"Oh no...even Rin who usually doesn't participate spoke up"
"I am also interested if he ever does make one, I want to join!"
"I would also maybe join it."
"I also want to join, but most likely, all of S-class would join it.
"Brilliant now Alice, Yuri, and Tony...well our fate is sealed"
"Sensei, how does one create a research society?" Aug asks
"To start a research society, you have to submit an application form consisting of five or more members and an advisor"
"If that's the case, then we must also come up with a proper name for a research group."
"H-hey everyone. Wait a minute..." Shin tries to fight the situation but...
"If Shin starts his own research society. Then it would be unthinkable for me not to join, right?" Cecily adds on and Shin gives up while I just put my hand on his shoulder in solidarity
"Well, I guess it's decided me and Shin will start a research society, and considering that I have to "teach" you guys it evens out in the end," I say while Shin finally accepts his job
"Since we need a name how does "Heroes research society sound? We ca..." Alice starts spewing nonsense
"I refuse" to which I cut her off immediately
After the tour everyone goes to the cafeteria to eat and after that, they tested our magic, and while we were showing off our magic skills, Rin thought of a name for the research society 'Ultimate Magic Research Society'...brilliant and everyone agreed to it...amazing and finally after being mentally exhausted from that, the day ended, and now me, Shin, Maria, and Cecily are making our way towards Grandpa's house.
"'Ultimate Magic Research Society'... I really don't like that name" Shin says while dropping his shoulders knowing that he can't change anything
"You can say that twice"
"What's wrong with it," Cecily asks us while tilting her head
"It's just that the 'Ultimate' part makes me wince, can't explain it well"
"I think I understand where you are coming from," Maria says while dropping her shoulders but immediately jumps up with a big grin appearing on her face "Also, what was that about you two teaching us, will I have to start calling you Miyake-sensei"
"God forbid, also wipe that smug grin from your face or I will call you Maria-sensei" I counter her teasing
"That..." she fails to give a proper answer through her red face and my victory is secured
"Well, in any case, we're here" as we walk through the door we are greeted by our butler Steve
"Welcome back Master Shin, Master Miyake" as he said that I flinched a little
"Miyake, you alright?" Maria asks noticing me flinch
"Yeah, I'm good, just getting used to him calling me master"
"Fuck, I made a mistake"
Maria slightly leans towards me and says "Fufu, so you don't like it when someone calls you Master Miyake"
"I celebrated a bit too early"
"A-Anyways Steve, we're going to be in the living room and can you have someone bring Maria a change of clothing, also are Grandma and Grandpa home?" I say to our butler while trying to hide my blush
"No, they are not, they left for the royal palace not too long ago, I'll go and inform one of the maids to bring a change of clothing for Lady Maria and I'll prepare some tea" He walks away
After some time the maid brings a change of clothing for Maria and thankfully Grandma isn't home so I can peacefully enchant the uniform, and now we are sitting down, talking, while drinking tea
"So Miyake do you have a plan for what we are going to teach because I'm not getting any ideas?"
"I'm the same as you" I sink into my chair
"I believe you'll figure something out" Cecily tries to encourage us
"Yeah, we believe in you," Maria says while giving a thumbs up with a bright smile "I mean no offense, but why are you two teaching us?"
"Most likely because we are too advanced for the schools' curriculum and there isn't anything that we can learn," I answer her while straightening up
"Then why did you join? I mean you are clearly very strong" Cecily asks us
"We lived in the forest our whole life so we wanted to experience life outside of it" Shin answers
"Also because Uncle Dis wanted you to get some common sense about your power"
"Well...that too" Shin answers while scratching his cheek
After finishing off our tea we escort Cecily and Maria home and Shin goes to his room and immediately falls asleep, while I enchant my katana, in secret
While all that was happening, at the Earlshide kingdom royal castle, a meeting was being held
"Next is the military department's monthly report, but before that...What is it, Dominic? Is there anything wrong?" Diseum asks
"Forgive me for being blunt, your highness...but I have confirmed that the number of demon sightings have drastically increased in this past year." Military departments, knight secretary-general Dominic Gastol answers in a gloomy tone
"What???" Everyone present is shocked by this piece of news
"We...we didn't realize it was happening...they increased at a slow rate, slow enough for us not to notice...but the fact is they are increasing. We can still devise a countermeasure now...but someday..." Dominic clenches his fist while getting even more discouraged by the situation "This is just my personal opinion..but I got the impression that this occurrence is of unnatural causes."
"Impossible!! Are you suggesting that the demons' rise in number is caused artificially?!" Diseum asks him a little perplexed
"Your majesty, this is an abnormal situation may I receive your approval to conduct a large-scale investigation immediately?"
"Yes...Do a thorough investigation. But remember, keep this matter a top-secret"
And so Diseum is left with a disastrous situation, but somewhere a certain man is looking for his son
"Kurt!! Where is Kurt" Russel von Ritzburg yells out, his voice reaching every room
"What do you want, father?"
"I received a summons from his majesty today! What were you thinking?! You know that flaunting your social status in the academy is prohibited!!" He yells at his son while grabbing his collar
"Tsk. No, father. It's the system that is flawed. We are chosen, people. We don't deserve to be treated the same as commoners." Kurt answers with a twisted face
".....?! Kurt...You...Do you realize what you're saying...?!" "What happened to him...My son wouldn't utter such words" Russel can't believe what he just heard
"I'm special!! I'm not a lowly commoner! Yet people still go against me and make a fool out of me! That is unforgivable!!" He yells out while slapping away his father's hand "It's their fault...Everything went haywire ever since those two appeared...That woman won't do what I tell her to...and the prince always gets in my way...if the prince wants to be their ally, then I'll..."
"Kurt!!" Before Kurt could finish his sentence his very own father punched him and Kurt fell to the floor "You get out of my sight and I'll overlook this remark that you made! You will be punished! Somebody take Kurt and keep him in his room!" Russel yells out and a butler escorts the young man to his room "What happened to you...my son..."
Morning, back at the academy
Miyake POV
"Kurt is currently under home confinement?" Shin asks
"This morning the school receive news that he "Will be confined to reflect on his actions for some while." Aug answers while Cecily is visibly relieved
"I really couldn't care less about him"
"Hey...why does Kurt have to act like that anyway? He knows that taking advantage of his nobility is not allowed...Also, he didn't mend his ways even after getting scolded by Aug, who has the highest social status. Isn't that just inconsistent" Shin voices his thoughts
"We attended a secondary education school that's mainly attended by nobles and the rich..."
"...and Kurt attended the same school as us" Thor and Julius share their information
"I admit he was a very confident man, but he didn't misuse his status like he is doing now. That is why we are perplexed too. Maybe something happened to Kurt...and changed him." Aug adds on
"I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but...when we were third years, he was called by a magic teacher who came to the school, didn't he?" Tony says while walking up with Yuri behind him
"Yeah...that did happen. That teacher called Thor, me and everyone who could use magic one by one."
"Well mystery solved" I walk away noticing Alice and Rin drawing something on the board
"Did Kurt participate in that?"
"Yes...we decided to refuse the teacher since we deemed it to be too suspicious, Kurt's magical abilities certainly increased after he went in there"
"...That means the teacher must be really skilled..."
"The teacher is rather famous...but his appearance is suspicious," Aug says
"Appearance?"
"You can't see his eyes...they are converted by something yet, he can do everything just fine..."
"I wonder what kind of person that teacher is..."
"I heard that he was born from the empire, Bluesphere, or so I heard. There's a lot of cases where common folk who find the living conditions there too difficult to seek asylum in the kingdom...but I don't think that's the case for someone as skilled as him..." Aug explains with suspicion written on his face
"Hey guys, look!" I yell out while presenting my masterpiece drawn on the board
"Miyake, you could help us solve this mystery, instead of drawing a portrait of The Magi," Tony says while dropping his shoulders
"But you already solved it" I toss the chalk towards Alice while I walk towards the door "You already said that he started acting weird after being with that teacher, so there's your culprit. The teacher did something with him that changed him for the worse." I finish as I stop in the door frame "But enough of this I'm hungry so how about we go eat in the cafeteria"
While class S was solving this mystery a man with average length white hair with a decorative piece covering his eyes makes a visit to a certain household
"Ah...!! Professor Schtrom...! You came to visit...!" Kurt's mother happily greets the professor hoping that he can fix the situation
"It's been a while, madam Ritzburg. I've heard hearsay regarding Kurt. As his former teacher, I was extremely worried. Could you let me see him?"
"Please...I beg you...bring my son to his senses!!"
As the professor walks into Kurt's room he sees Kurt, on the ground with his arms and legs tied together
"What happened, Kurt? How could you end up in this pathetic state?" He asks him while touching the wall behind him, deploying a soundproof barrier
"I've said it, haven't I? You're special. Your talent and status, It's all special. There is nothing you can't have, is there?"
"But...I couldn't have her...! Because they always get in my way" Kurt yells
"Hmm, I see. Their existence is a hindrance to you eh...?" Schtrom approaches him and puts his hand over his face "...Listen. Teach them a lesson. You are..." with these words Kurt's eyes flash red for a split second and he falls asleep "Hehe...oh Kurt, show me your best dance. Hehehe..."
Back at the academy, class S listened to Miyake's request and they are currently in the cafeteria eating
"Shin, will you still be escorting Cecily to her home and on the way to school? Kurt is on home confinement so...it shouldn't be dangerous for her anymore, right?" Aug asks Shin a really obvious question
"Yeah, maybe I don't need to escort Cecily anymore because Kurt is no longer here"
"Yeah...You're right...you don't need...to escort me anymore..." Cecily says in a low voice while looking extremely sad
"But, I'll still walk with Cecily to her house because her house is in the same direction as mine," Shin says while taking a bite of his food
All of a sudden Cecily jumps out of her seat "Yeah!! That's right! Our houses are in the same direction! So it's not strange for us to go home together! Not strange at all!"
"Ah..." and she immediately gets embarrassed
"Fufufu...looks like a certain someone couldn't keep her excitement inside..." Maria comments on the state of her friend
"Well if that is your decision I don't mind," I say while taking a bite of my food
"Oh Miyake, don't lie you're just excited to be spending time with me" Maria goes on the offensive
"What if I am what are you going to do about it?" I say while pointing my fork at her also going to the offensive and not bothering to defend
"That...unfair" her red face is the sign of my victory
"Anyways...I trust you will do the right thing, Shin. After all, you said "Go together with me" in front of everyone
"Lies and deceit, good job Aug"
"In what dimension did I say that!?!?" Shin shouts out embarrassed
"Together...Shin and I..."
"Cecily thinking something lewd..." Maria says loud enough for all of us to hear to which everyone burst out laughing
"By the way Miyake, you said that Shin was using some kind of 'search magic' while you were moving, right? How did you do that?" She asks me
"Oh that, by thinly spreading out your magic in an area around you, you can sense the magical power of every living thing, and with it, you can sense malicious intent. The magic of a demon is not normal...It's ominous. It's because they completely direct their hostility or intents towards us. And by using 'Search Magic' you can sense that magic. I'll teach it to you someday, okay?" I say while smiling
"Okay, thanks" She responds with a smile of her own
"Wait Miyake you hunted a demon before?" Thor asks me
"Wait you guys haven't?" Shin asks a dumb question
"Of course we haven't. We just recently graduated from being middle schoolers, you know?" Thor answers Shin's dumb question
"Oh so Shin you also hunted demons before, and when was your first time hunting them?" Tony asks a normal question that will not have a normal answer
"Well...here we go again"
"If I remember correctly...we were ten," Shin says in an oblivious tone and once again starting a fire
"Ten years old!?" Everyone yells out shocked
"Yeah...It was a bear about three-something meters tall." Shin adds gasoline to the fire
"A bear?!" And now everyone is shocked beyond belief
"This doesn't concern me"
"Why are you all surprised and keeping your distance away from me," Shin asks while looking at me expecting an explanation
"Oh look, tea"
After everyone has calmed down
"Well then, how about we get going" and we make our way outside
"Wait? We're going across the field?"
"It's the fastest way to go to the auditorium" but as we walk out something catches my attention
"!!! What is this...malicious intent...where is it coming from." After looking in the direction of the source is see "Is that...Kurt. Shit he's planning to hit us with a spell
"Miyake!" Shin yells out
"Quick protect everyone, I'll deal with this attack" I yell out to him while grabbing my katana from the alternative storage
"Get into a stance, calm down your heartbeat, normalize your breathing, relax your muscles and focus on your target"
As the red ball of high magic power makes its way towards Miyake he stands there preparing himself
"Miyake!!!" a female voice echoes throughout the whole field
"Now"
Miyake spins around in a circle and slashes upwards towards the sky, cutting the ball in half and the two pieces fly right beside his head and finally explode in the sky
"Shit that was close, you guys alright" I yell out behind me as everyone runs towards me
"Miyake are you hurt" Maria runs towards me instantly checking my body for any types of injuries, looking relieved after not finding anything
"Is that Kurt!? How? Shouldn't he be under house arrest" Aug says disturbed
"Aug...like this, is it already no use?" Shin asks him
"Yes...up until now, it has only been miss-attempted. But this time it's clearly an attempted murder...!
"You bastard you bastard you bastard you bastard YOU BASTARD" Kurt starts yelling
".....Hey, Aug," I ask him in a serious voice
"...What is it?"
"Do you think he can be brought under control?"
"...I don't think so."
"...Isn't this bad?"
"...It's bad"
"Okay, everyone listen to me" I raise my voice so everyone can hear but before I can say anything Kurt sends out a blast of energy towards us, and together with Shin we shield everyone but Kurt keeps sending out a lot of energy and finally, it comes to a halt
"Are you serious..." the image in front of me takes a while to fully set in but when it does
"Everyone present evacuate immediately! Kurt has turned into a demon! I repeat there is a demon, run if you want to live!" I yell out
"Huh...demon!? GAAAAAAAAH!!! HELPPPP!!" And with that, the once peaceful field is filled with panicked students running to save themselves
"We also have to get away soon!!"
"Y-Y-Yeah...that seems like a good idea" Alice and Tony try to urge everyone to leave
"Aug you too, escape this area right away."
"What?! Miyake, you...no way!"
"Me and Shin will stop him. You guys escape while you can"
"Then we all..."
"Aug!" I yell out "I don't give a shit! Get the hell out of here fast!!"
"....Are we...a hindrance?" He asks me
"Yes... you guys are a hindrance."
"Tsk. Miyake and Shin will take care of Kurt as soon as possible! Every one focus on escaping! Even if we stay behind we'll only be a burden!"
"Julius! Inform the teachers of the demon!" Aug yells out orders to everyone
"We can't...we can't just leave them alone!" Cecily cries out
"Messina!! Don't let go of Claude even if you have to drag her along with you!" Aug yells out
"Y-Yes!! But first"
"Miyake!!" she yells out my name and just looks at me, without opening her mouth with just eye contact alone she says to me ''Be careful", to which I respond with a nod
And soon the only ones that are left are Shin and Miyake
"Sorry guys...but I'm glad that I can use my powers without worrying about them!" Shin says while walking up next to me
"I'll attack him from close quarters with my katana, you attack him from a distance with spells but just in case get your sword ready
"Ready?" I ask him in a firm voice
"Ready."
"Now then...Let's try and take him out as soon as possible."
"Gah Ahhhh" Kurt jumps towards Shin and me but we both jump away and dodge him creating some distance between us
"Woah, I expected for him to be slower. He's pretty fast..." Shin says a little surprised
"Shin Wolford...You piece of Shit!!!"
"Shin Wolford"...? he called out your name!?"
"Damn you...you fucker!"
"Maybe there is still a part of consciousness left in him? So don't go overboard with your spells" I say to him
Kurt sends out a beam of fire towards me
"Woah!! Hot..."
"Unbelievable...I never expected his magic power to be this high...if so...I'll just have to hit back"
"Sorry for doing this Kurt" Shin hits him with a continuous barrage of small yet powerful flames
"GAHHH" Before Kurt could recover I cut his arm off and deliver a roundhouse kick to his abdomen
"GUAHH AHGGG" Kurt violently shakes his head around as if trying to shake off something
"What?! He is still fine after that blow?!" I say surprised
"What's going on?" Shin too can't believe what is happening
"Damn...there's something wrong with him?! I yell
"His transformation into a demon is most likely not complete..!! Is there nothing we can do? Some kind of magic to turn him back? But I never even heard about a method to turn back a demon...To begin with, is it even possible?!" Shin tries to come up with a way to still save him
"WOLFORD!!" Kurt starts preparing another attack
"Like I would let you" But I yet again kick the side of his abdomen sending him flying but he manages to stick the landing
"GAAAHHH" Kurt yells out violently and starts producing high amounts of magical energy
"...!! Wait... Does he want to let his magical power out of control!?"
"Stop it...That's too much...!!"
"Not good...! If that much magical power goes out of control...the academy will be blown away...!! There are still students and teachers around...the casualties would be horrible...!" Shin starts to panic a little
"Shin!" I yell out his name "This isn't the time to be panicking."
"There isn't another way after I kill him deploy a magic barrier around his body"
"Okay got it..."
"Kurt forgive me," Shin thinks to himself
In an instant, I lunge towards Kurt and slice his head clean off
"Now!" at my signal Shin deploys the magic barrier
And as Kurt's head and body hit the floor I shake off the blood from my katana, while looking up at the sky I think to myself "As big of a dick he was, he could have changed and become better, but getting involved with that professor sealed his fate." *sigh*
After the fight, everyone runs towards Shin and Miyake, with Miyake being a bit further away
Miyake POV
"Are you two, okay?" Aug yells out while running
"Shin-kun are you hurt?" Cecily starts checking for injuries
".....No, I'm fine..." Shin says in a low voice and everyone just looks at Kurt's lifeless body and Maria slowly makes her way towards me
"You okay?"
"Yeah," I answer her without turning around and she wraps her hands around me
"It isn't your fault, you know that right"
"Yeah, but still, it doesn't feel right killing a person...again" I whisper the last part she is still able to hear it
"Again?" She asks me while tightening her hug
"I tell you someday in the future, but you'll have to wait"
"Don't worry, I'll wait for as long as possible" I turn around and hug her
"Thank you" and after some time we rejoin the rest of the group
"You two were amazing."
"I know right!! The magic was amazing, too. But damn how Miyake cut the neck of the demon with his sword!!"
"With your skills, you could even be the top student at the knight academy."
"My family has been knights for generations, but I have never seen such a clean cut."
"Wolford-kun, are you perhaps a genius?"
"Wait, you guys were watching?" Shin asks them a little perplexed
"We escaped inside, but when we turned midway, we saw how you were overwhelming the demon. So we decided to watch" Aug explains to us "Still...you two have a tough road ahead of you"
"Why?" Shin asks
"That was the appearance of the second demon ever in history. And the last time it almost destroyed the whole kingdom but we killed it so easily." I explain to him
"Your Highness!!!" a group of guards run towards us "Where is the demon!? We will do our utmost to..."
And Aug cuts them off "It's already over."
"Huuuuh!?" They yell out shocked
"Look over there," Aug says while turning his head towards the body
"You...you defeated the demon!?" the guard yells
"It wasn't me"
"...? No way...a mere magic student did this..."
"What do you mean "mere"? That's Shin and Miyake Wolford, the grandsons of the hero Merlin Wolford, the demon killer." Aug says something unnecessary
"The esteemed grandsons!?" While the guard is yelling the rest of the students go to check out what's happening
"H-hey, what happened to the demon?"
"Is it safe now?"
"Someone is lying there...Ugh, his head!!!"
"Sorry, can I have your mantle?" Shin asks for the guard's mantle and covers Kurt's body with it
"Everyone, rest assured!! The demon has been slain by Merlin's grandsons, Miyake Wolford and Shin Wolford" Aug speaks up getting everyone's attention
"OHHHHHH!!!" Everyone yells out while throwing their fist in the air celebrating
"Wow!! Nothing less from the magi's grandsons!!"
"Heroes!! We have new heroes!!" And everyone jumps at me and Shin
"So embarrassing...stop it..." Shin crouches down while holding his head
But while I am filled with people cheering and yelling my name into the sky only one thought crosses my mind"
"Kurt von Ritzburg, may your soul peacefully rest for eternity."
