Camilla

It's been about three weeks since Kaz actually talked to me.

I hummed along to the songs playing on the radio in my car as I drove on the smooth ride. My eyebrows furrowed together when an all too familiar head of brown hair came into view.

Kaz?

I pulled over to the sidewalk rolling down my window, "Kaz."

He looked over at me with relief washing over his features, "Cammy."

Well now it's been three seconds.

"Do you need a ride?"

He looked at me nervously, "I can't."

"What do you mean you can't?"

"I don't want her to get mad at me," he said referring to our mom.

"I'll make sure she doesn't."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

He got in throwing his backpack into the backseat as he usually does whenever I picked him up from school.

"Why were you walking alone?"

"She forgot."

"Forgot what?"

"To pick me up."

"And the school just let you walk home by yourself?"

"Yeah."

Fucking psychopaths.

"What were you going to do?" he asked, curious on why I was driving down this road.

"Grocery shopping I need more ice cream."

"For what?"

"Milkshakes."

"You don't like milkshakes."

I nodded, "Well that was before I tried Parker's."

"How is lover boy?"

"He's good," I informed him, "he had an art show last week."

"Really?"

I nodded, "His photos in my opinion were the best things there."

My opinion is biased.

I don't care.

"I'm sorry," Kaz said suddenly.

"It's okay," I brushed him off.

"I'm really sorry."

"It's fine Kaz," I sighed, "do you want to talk about it?"

We sat in silence before he spoke, "I wanted her to love me."

I gave him a worried look, "What did she say to you?"

Kaz didn't respond and I could feel my heart drop recognizing the look on his face to be the same look I used to wear.

"She was being nice. She picked me up from school and played a game with me once," Kaz said as if that was groundbreaking behavior.

I thought for a moment, "When I was twelve I only wore red lipstick, I wore it nearly every day," I started.

"I remember seeing her flip through a magazine where everyone's lips were painted red, she loved those fucking magazines. So I thought if I looked more like them she'd suddenly pay attention to me like she did them."

"Did it work?" Kaz asked interested.

I shook my head, "It didn't. The only response I got was her telling me that red wasn't my color," I dryly laughed recalling the memory.

"She's blind," Kaz nodded, "I think you look nice in red, I know how to spell all the colors obviously so I know what I'm saying."

"Thank you," I said softly.

I pulled into the driveway getting out to grab his backpack as he undid his seatbelt. I walked with him to the front door, when he went to reach for the handle the door suddenly flew open with force.

I sighed as I was met with the same wild brown eyes that glared at me as she grabbed Kaz pulling him to her and he flinched at the tightness of her grip.

"You're hurting him," I said narrowing my eyes.

She scoffed letting him go as he scurried in the house leaving us alone.

"I don't want to see you around him anymore."

"Why?"

"I don't want him to turn out like you."

I smiled, "What's so wrong with being like me? What's so fucking wrong with me?"

She looked at me with anger in her eyes before going back to her calm expression, "We both know what's wrong with you Camilla."

I lightly laughed sitting on the roof Theo and I always go to with the bottle of liquor in my hand as I mindlessly looked out to the view.

I don't even know what's funny.

Everything is.

The night sky was prominent and the building were brightly lit and I savored the view as I played music on my phone swaying with the rhythm.

I felt fuzzy and warm inside despite not having on a jacket.

I feel nice.

I know this probably isn't the best way to deal with anything really.

I'm trying, I promise I'm trying.

I'm just tired.

Really fucking tired.

My mind was slightly out of it and before I knew what was happening my finger was selecting a contact that I really doubt sober me would approve of.

"Cam?"

"Hey Parker," I dragged out.

"Are you okay?"

I sighed, "Perfect actually."

"Have you been drinking?"

"Are you a cop?"

"No."

"Then maybe."

He sighed, "Where are you?"

"The roof."

"Are you by the edge?"

"Yep."

I could hear rustling on his end of the call, "Don't sit on the edge you could get hurt."

"I don't care."

"What do you mean you don't care?"

"If I get hurt."

I could hear him pause, "Camilla please just sit far away from the edge."

"Cam."

"What?"

"Not Camilla, Cam."

I hung up the call before moving farther from the edge.

Maybe I shouldn't have hung up.

Who knows?

I don't.

I don't really know anything, I'm small and the world is huge. It doesn't even really matter anyways.

I think I'm sad right now.

I can't really tell.

I'm sad.

Alright.

I saw Theo walk up to me and I stood up still out of it as he wrapped his arms around me in a hug and I instantly relaxed into him.

I've never really liked hugs.

But when they're coming from Parker they're alright.

"Holy fuck Camilla."

"Cam," I corrected him.

He tilted his head at me, "What's wrong with Camilla?"

"I don't want to be Camilla Moretti anymore."

Plus having him call me Camilla feels weird.

Parker furrowed his eyebrows, "Why not?"

"Why would I?" I laughed, before drinking from the bottle again as Theo sighed, reaching for it trying to take it from my grasp.

I dodged him laughing, "Don't take things that aren't yours Parker."

"Angel give me the bottle," he said, with a little more edge in his tone.

"Nope," I nodded taking another sip.

Theo pinched the bridge of his nose sighing, "Please."

"When you put it like that," I smiled, "no."

I looked over at him before setting the bottle down with a slight frown.

"We have to stay up for a while," Theo said softly, "I don't think you can climb down the ladder."

"I could always just jump off."

"That's not funny."

I looked over at him, "I wasn't trying to be funny."

He cautiously walked to me as I looked ahead of me before he sat down next to me fully.

"You smell nice," I said, "not in a creepy way."

Parker nodded not saying anything back to me just listening as I continued to talk not having as much as a filter as I usually do.

"I saw Kaz today."

"How is he?"

"Alright," I sighed, "he's fine."

"Did you see your mom?"

"Take a guess," I said dryly.

Theo just sat silently the same way he's been sitting this whole time.

"What's your favorite color?" I asked him randomly.

"Purple."

"Mines red," I stated.

He smiled, "Red is pretty."

I looked over at him as he stared ahead at the lit up buildings.

I like him.

"I like you."

I saw a smile rise in his lips, "You do?"

"Yeah just don't remind me of this when I'm sober."

"Why?"

"I'll be embarrassed."

He nodded, "I won't mention it."

"Good," I nodded, "Cool. Great. Whatever."

Cool.

Theo stood up holding his hands out to me that I grabbed and he pulled me up into a standing position.

"Try to walk straight," he told me, and I absentmindedly nodded. Theo watched me before sighing, "I think we have to wait a little more."

"I know how to climb down a ladder or stairs or anything for that matter," I nodded before walking over to the ladder being stopped when Theo grabbed my hand.

"Let's not do that."

"Let's do it."

"No."

I hummed, "Yes."

"I don't feel like having you die on my watch."

"And they say romance is dead," I sighed, sitting down again as Theo shook his head at me muttering something under his breath I didn't catch.

"You remind me of a star," I told him, "I think it's because you're blonde."

"Is that a compliment?"

"Yes."

"Thank you," he smiled at me.

I looked at him skeptically, "I feel like you want something from me, I don't have my wallet on me so you're out of luck there lover boy."

"Well there goes my plan."

"You're a psychopath."

"I think I'm more mysterious if anything."

"What is it with you and the whole mysterious thing?"

"I would tell you," he said, "but it would make me look less mysterious."

"Makes sense."

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈

I think I'm dead.

I groaned opening my eyes realizing I was on my bed in the same clothes as yesterday just with a hoodie that wasn't mine on.

Parker.

"Shit," I said sitting up looking over to see water along with two Tylenols with a note sitting on my side table.

My eyes scanned the note that informed me he had practice bright and early so he couldn't stay and to text him when I woke up.

I fell back in the bed recalling every single event from the other night.

I'm embarrassed.

I'm not facing Parker.

Nope.

Why did I call him?

That was dumb.

I'm dumb.

No I'm not, everyone else is.

I picked up my phone taking a leap of faith to text Kaz.

Me: Good Morning

I smiled seeing it sent.

Kaz:) : Good morning 😎

Kaz:) : Can I sleep at your house tonight

Me: Yeah of course

Me: I can pick you up at six after my lecture

Kaz:) : Cool 🤛

Everything is going back to normal.

For the most part.

My phone rang and I furrowed my eyebrows seeing 'Very hot mysterious man' pop up. I rolled my eyes knowing it was Parker from the mysterious part and obviously the pfp.

"Hi," I said into the phone.

"Good morning," he replied, "do you feel better?"

"I'm fine," I replied, "I'm sorry about last night," I said cringing.

"It's fine," he said back, "you're entertaining."

"Entertaining?"

"Considering you cried when you saw a dead pigeon yeah," I could hear him chuckle, "it was entertaining."

"I don't remember that."

He paused for a second, "Do you remember anything?"

"No," I lied.

"I have to go," he told me.

"Bye Parker."

"Bye Angel," as I went to hang up he spoke again, "one more thing."

"Yeah?"

"I like you too," he said, "if you were curious."

Good, cool, great, whatever.

Cool.

My eyes widened before I cleared my throat, "Well that wasn't very mysterious of you."

"Shit," he sighed, "you're right, forget I said that then."

"I don't think I will."

"Good."

"Okay bye Parker."

"Bye Cam."

I hung up standing with a small smile on my face before cringing again at the pounding in my head.

✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈

I rubbed my eyes grateful my classes were over for the day, I checked the time seeing I was on track to pick up Kaz on time.

Did what he say hurt my feelings?

Slightly.

At the same times he's also nine and just wanted his moms love and attention as most kids do.

But he shouldn't have to work or change to earn either of those things.

"Cam!" I heard a voice call out.

I turned seeing Parker walk up to me with a smile, "Hi."

"Hi," he smiled back at me, "Are you doing anything Saturday?"

"Nope."

"Do you want to do something with me?"

"Depends on what the something is."

He shrugged, "I can't tell you yet."

"Why?"

"I like being mysterious."

I tilted my head, "Are you asking me on a date Parker?"

He nodded, "I am."

I softly smiled, "Okay, just text me the time and what I should wear."

Theo looked at me slightly surprised, "I will."

"I have to go," I told him, "I'll see you Saturday Parker."

"See you Saturday Angel."

The smile stayed on my face the whole way as I went to pick up Kaz.

That was a lie.

I flipped off three different people as I drove I think. Slight road rage. It's not my fault no one in this whole city other than me can drive.

Psychos.

Kaz sat on the sidewalk with his Spider-Man backpack on as I pulled to a stop and he jumped in the car, "They know you're coming to mine right?"

"I told dad."

I nodded satisfied with the answer before driving again.

"Can we get blizzards?" he asked as we were about to pass Dairy Queen.

I nodded pulling into the small line of cars in the drive through.

After getting my drink and Kaz's ice cream I turned onto the freeway as I heard my phone alert me I had a message.

"Can you check that for me Kaz?"

He looked at the phone before saying, "Parker said to dress fancy and to be ready at six."

I smiled, "Just text back 'got it'."

Kaz shook his head, "That's a boring response."

"What else am I suppose to say?"

He thought before typing and I looked over at him, "What did you say?"

He shrugged.

"Kaz Moretti."

I grabbed my phone from his hand still looking at the ride finally making it to a normal road with a stoplight.

At the red light I scanned over the message that said 'knife or no knife🔪🤬'

Parker responded with a 'depends what you're in to' making me roll my eyes saying Kaz had my phone.

"You're not allowed to text people on my phone anymore."

"Why?"

"What does knife or no knife even suppose to infer?"

"I watched Halloween yesterday and Micheal Myers always had his knife."

"You're a psychopath."

"No, you are."

"No I'm not."

"You are."

"I'll turn around, keep playing with me Kaz."

He stopped arguing and I shook my head.

"Ms.Ella is at her friends tonight I heard her talking about it," I told him, "so we can turn the volume higher than normal with no complaints."

Kaz smiled at my comment, "Now that lady is a psycho."

"She does have issues," I nodded back.

It's a simple fact of life.

My life.

Unfortunately.

Just found out there's a kissing booth 3

Do I personally enjoy the movies?
