Song of the chapter: Ella Henderson - Yours

xxx

I drowsily woke up to the sound of knocking on the door. I raised my head and immediately regretted it, feeling a headache instantly. I put my head down again. Is this what an emotional hangover feels like?

I checked the time to see that it was 9.30 pm. I slept from 6.00 pm, wow. I still felt like shit though, considering that naps are supposed to make people feel better. The knocking on the door continued incessantly, and I finally found the balls to get up (with great effort) and walked to the front door.

“Who is it?” I shouted at the door.

  “It’s me,” A voice said. Cameron’s.

“Go away,” I yelled back, feeling annoyed. He just had to pitch up right now, out of all people.

“No. Are you okay,” he asked, the concern dripping in his voice.

“Just go away,” I said, hearing my voice crack a little. He just knocked even more.

“I will break in if you don’t open the door right now. And trust me, I’m crazy enough to,” he said. I rolled my eyes before opening the door to see Cameron standing there, well dressed as always. I didn’t have the energy to care right now as I was going through an emotional disaster.

“Shit, what happened to you?” he asked, the concern back in his voice again. I finally had the courage to look into his eyes. And all I could see in them were… pity. Uncensored pity. I hated that. I hated it when people felt sorry for me.

“I broke up with Christian. And please, I don’t want your pity and don’t look at me like that,” I said, my voice breaking in the last part. I looked down to the floor before feeling his body and arms hugging me. He hugged me tightly, and I could smell his scent for the first time. It smelled strong and masculine yet it was fruity and summery. I loved it.

“Bullshit,” he whispered in my ear. He hugged me for a few more minutes, but it seemed to last forever. Not the dreaded kind of forever, but the blissful kind. I wanted to be enveloped in his scent for a few more forevers.

He let go suddenly and I felt deflated. I don’t know why I felt like that. I just felt like I… needed him to hold me to feel complete. This was so weird for me, because I’ve never felt that way about anyone else, not even my ex-boyfriends.

“I’m gonna make you feel better, I promise,” he swore. I nodded, fully complying with what he said. He walked over to the couch and tapped the space next to him. I sat there awkwardly, not knowing what to do. I can’t just cuddle with him. I just broke up with my boyfriend, for fucks sake.

“What movie do you wanna watch?” he asked suddenly. I looked up to the TV to see him flicking through the movies on demand. I just shrugged before he flicked over to my favourite movie, We’re The Millers.

“My favourite movie,” he said while smirking at me. I gawked at him.

“That’s my favourite movie too! Well second favourite. The Breakfast Club takes first place,” I exclaimed. I don’t know why I was suddenly feeling happy right now.

“It’s a deal, then,” he said and clicked on the movie. I raised at brow at him.

“You’re already speaking like a businessman, nice,” I said. He chuckled at that. I crossed my legs on the couch and watched the movie cosily.

Within the first ten minutes, I was already laughing. And I also noticed Cameron stealing glances towards me. And although he was laughing with me, he was slowly moving closer to me until he was right next to me. But I didn’t have a problem with it. In fact, when it was about forty five minutes into the movie, I laid my head on his shoulder. I felt him tense up at first, but then he slowly relaxed. But I was already feeling drowsy, so I was about to sleep at any moment then.

  “Max?” Cameron said suddenly.

“Mm?” I hummed. He tensed up again.

“I’m really sorry. About everything. And I really mean it. I’m sorry that you broke up with Christian. I’m sorry for being stupid. I’m sorry for coming into your life all of a sudden. I mean, if I hadn’t come into your life, I’m sure you would be happy right now-,”

“Shut up,” I cut him off. I looked up at him to see a confused look on his face. I moved my face closer to his until we were less than an inch apart. I felt his hot minty breathe on my lips, and I must admit, it turned me on. But now was definitely not the time.

  “Apology not accepted.”

  “But-,”

“It’s a stupid apology and I’m glad you came into my life, Cameron,” I whispered. I moved my face closer to his until his warm lips were on mine. We kissed softly, sweetly. Nothing intense. It went on for a few moments before we slowly broke apart. I looked at his brown eyes. Even though the room was dim, I could see… hope. Hope in his eyes.

I sat back down and I cuddled up to him. We watched the rest of the movie in silence. But I didn’t finish it though. I fell asleep in his embrace. I don’t know how, but I did.

I woke up to smell of bacon. Again.

I got up, and walked directly to kitchen. I already knew that it was Cameron in there, but a part of me wanted to see him. I walked in to see him in tight boxer briefs and a tee. I would be lying through my teeth if I said that wasn’t the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen.

“Good morning,” he said before turning around. He looked at me and smiled he rare smiles.

“Hey,” I said awkwardly. He turned back to his bacon and dished it up on the plate.

  “Good nights’ sleep?” I shrugged.

“Meh. It’s better than I thought, though,” I said. He pushed a plate of eggs, bacon and sausages with a tomato. I dug in immediately, and he chuckled at the sight. I looked at him, offended.

“What?” I asked innocently. He shook his head.

“Nothing, it’s just very cute how you eat,” he said in a small, nervous voice. I felt my cheeks heat up at the vague compliment.

“Thanks, I guess?” I said. He shrugged.

“So how do you feel?” he asked. I shrugged.

“It’s better than yesterday, but…” I left it at that. He could fill in the gaps. He nodded.

“I better get ready for work,” I said and got up.

“Whoa, whoa. You’re not going anywhere like this,” he said while sticking his arm out to stop me.

“Hey, I’m perfectly capable of going to work,” I protested. He shook his head.

“No. In fact,” he took his phone form the kitchen counter. “I’m phoning Dad,” he threatened. I rolled my eyes as he dialled the number and put his phone on his ear. I tried to reach for it, but he kept ducking out if the way.

“Hey, Dad?” I heard him say.

“Max is not coming in to work today. He’s not feeling good.”

“Dad, he’s my friend. A close friend. And he’s feeling sick.”

“Dad, he’s not my boyfriend.” He rolled his eyes. I smiled when he did that.

“Okay, dad. Bye,” he ended the call and looked at me.

“He said you can take as many days off as you need,” he said. I rolled my eyes.

“You didn’t need to that,” I said, sulking at him.

“I had to. I’m not going to let you kill yourself. I told you, I’m staying until you feel better,” he said, looking at me straight in the eye.

The rest of the day was pretty cool. Cameron and I watched SpongeBob the whole day. In the afternoon, Ash texted me to see if I was still okay. I told her I was fine and she kept on asking if I was sure (since I wasn’t sure 99% of the time, her words, not mine).

In the evening, we watched more movies while we ate the Chinese food that Cameron ordered. We were sitting casually, by the way. No snuggling or cuddling. I heard a knock on the door and I quickly got up to see who it was. It was Ash.

“Hey!” she shouted and hugged me tightly. I rolled my eyes.

“Nice to see you too, Ash,” I said. Her gripped on me loosened a little bit, and I pulled back to see a perplexed look on her face.

“What is he doing here?” she asked. So I’m guessing she saw Cameron. I turned back to Cameron to see him still eating his box of Chinese food, his eyes fixed on the TV. I turned to ash and shrugged. We walked in to the sitting room and Cameron looked up.

“Hey, Ashley,” he greeted. Ash waved enthusiastically.

  “Hey,” she said.

“Cameron, we’re gonna go to the balcony and have a little talk,” I told Cameron. He shrugged and smiled. We walked past him to the balcony, and Ash and I sat on the seats.

“So, tell me the deets,” Ash said. I rolled my eyes.

“Okay, so remember when I said I would let one of them go?” I started. I told her the whole story of the break up and how Cameron landed here. Her face was expressionless, which was what scared me. She would normally be shocked or surprised. When I finished, she only smiled.

“Aww, he can sense it when you’re in distress,” she cooed. I scoffed.

“Shut up, Ash,” I scolded. She giggled.

“In all seriousness, though. I think you done the right thing and you made the right choice. I can see that he really cares for you, and I’m happy about that. He’s also hot, which is a bonus. But have you told him why you broke up with Christian?” she asked. I shook my head.

“Take your time. He’s yours now,” she said, smiling. We talked more about her and Chris, and turns out that they’re getting a tad bit serious. I was happy for her about that. And we talked about josh and Zoë, and she told me that Zoë told her that she’s in love but she was scared. It was understandable, because her love life consisted of three week relationships and one night stands.

“I need to go now, Chris is waiting,” she said. I nodded and smirked at her.

“Go get that dick,” I exclaimed. She scoffed at me.

“Shut up,” she said while standing up. I stood up with her and we walked out of the balcony towards the door.

“Bye Cameron,” she called out to him. He was still engrossed in the movie.

“Bye,” he said. I walked Ash out and we parted ways. I closed the door and went back to sit with Cameron.

“So, what did y’all talk about that took so long?” Cameron asked curiously. I shrugged.

“Stuff,” I said. He looked at me while I looked at the TV.

“Stuff?” he pestered. I rolled my eyes again.

“Yeah, stuff,” I told him again. He continued his incessant staring while I continued watching the TV.

“You’re all better now?” he asked, concern now taking the place of curiosity.

“Yeah, thank you for being here,” I told him sincerely. He shrugged.

“Anytime,” he said. I looked up to him looking at me. My eyes flicked to his lips. His really delicious light pink lips. I looked at him in the eye again and decided to tell him the truth.

“Cameron, the reason I broke up with Christian was…” I trailed off nervously. I looked down at my hands before I looked up at him again. “Was-,” I was cut off by his finger on my lips.

“I know,” he whispered before he kissed me. I was just like the last time. Light and companionable. But I felt a subtle passion in it too. We parted and he looked at me deep in the eyes.

“Are you sure? Because I am,” he said warily. I nodded.

  “I’m sure.”
