Warning: This is about The Reactions to Darry, Ponyboy, Steve and Twobit when they had realized Soda had died in Vietnam...Soooo...I'm just gonna say sorry if you cry.
The house was dead silent. Not a single peep came from anyone, the only sound was the ticking from a clock.
The days were slowly dragging ever since Soda went to Vietnam, He had been drafted months ago, Things seemed depressing, with the endless days of worry and fear if the middle Curtis was safe.
Ponyboy sat on the couch reading as usual, Darry was in the kitchen cooking dinner, Steve had been out around the streets.
After Soda left Steve never appeared in the Curtis house unless he needed something from them, Steve also had been addicted to alcohol.
He felt lost after his Best Friend had left off to war he believes there was no point on anything.
Twobit in the other hand didn't seem to be his usually self and still checked up on the Curtis Brothers every day, he was drinking beer in the front porch looking out onto the distance, with only one thought...When will this chaos end?
Steve came stumbling into the porch
"Hey Steve...What are you doing here?" Twobit asked
"I came for more beer." Steve sighed as he walked into the house.
Twobit was still on the porch, silent.
He then saw something concerning, Something he wished he never seen.
It was a vehicle that seemed to belong to the army, followed by hearse.
'Please Turn, Please Turn, don't let it be who I think it is.' Twobit thought.
The cars had pulled over right infront of The Curtis house. Twobit immediately walked in the house tears already forming in his eyes
"DARRY!" He cried out Darry hurried in the living room concerned
"What happened?"
"The- the Military....Th- their here!" He fell to the floor sobbing.
Ponyboy looked out the window in disbelief as two strong looking men walked up the porch holding a well folded American flag.
'No...Please God No...Not Soda.' Ponyboy stormed off into his room not wanting to hear the news.
Darry opened the door, trying to keep calm, Steve was behind him denying what they were about to tell them.
"Are you Darrel Curtis?" The strong man asked
"Yes, Sir I am ." Darry put his shaking hands in his pockets.
The man's face turned into pity and sympathy, he took off his hat looking down at the badges from previous wars he had done.
"Look, I'm sorry to tell you this but...Your brother...He passed." Darrys heart Shattered right then, His very own brother, gone.
Steve went wild, nearly falling to the floor, he ran out of the house out of anger and frustration. Twobit was on the floor sobbing harder.
As For Ponyboy, He Peeked from his bedroom door, in denial that his closest brother was gone. He fought back hard and strong holding in his sobs. He needed to stay tough. For that is what he believed.
"How did he...Die?" Darry managed to choke out
"Got shot Multiple times, one in the leg, Multiple on the chest. He managed to survive for about a whole day- But the very next he was gone... Told us to give this to You." The man grabbed out a envelope.
It had some smeared blood, Darry grabbed it
"Thank You Sir." He nodded
"I'm sorry for your loss." The man said as he handed Darry the American flag.
Darry closed the door quietly and placed the Flag and Envelope nicely on the coffee table.
"Ponyboy!" His voice cracking at the end.
There was a quiet creek coming from the bedroom door, Ponyboy had looked broken, Lost as he continued to fight back tears.
Darry now had tears in his eyes.
"I'm...Sorry." he cried, tightly hugging Ponyboy.
Ponyboy then burst out I into tears.
"Why does this happen to us Darry? Why did Soda have to die?!" Ponyboy cried
"I don't know little buddy...I just don't know." Darry gave a quivering sigh.
They both sat down on the couch still holding onto eachother. Twobit had gotten up, wiping his tears away
"I'm gonna go look for Steve." Twobit mumbled before he left off.
Hours later the crying had died down, Twobit managed to get Steve to come back. They all sat there silently, Staring at the envelope that way lying on top of the American flag.
"Should we read it?" Twobit asked Darry noded and looked at Ponyboy who was laying on his chest
"Ponyboy...Do you want to read what Soda wrote to us?" Darry asked nicely.
"Y-Yeah." He chocked out. Darry grabbed the envelope and handed it to Ponyboy.
Ponyboy opened it carefully and Started to read what Soda last words were to the gang.
Dear Gang,
I'm lying here, Realizing I will soon be leaving this world, The nurse had told me I have about an hour before my last breaths. So I decided to write something that you guys can remember me from...Sort of like a goodbye. I'll miss you guys, I promise I'll say 'hi' to Johnny and Dallas...The same with Mom and Dad.
Darry, Promise me you and Ponyboy won't fight no more, Promise me you will be strong just like the Superman you are. I just want to take the time and say I love you Darry, Thank you for taking care of me and Ponyboy when we lost Mom and Dad, instead of throwing us in some boys home.
Ponyboy, Promise me you will keep writing those stories you let me read, Promise me you'll always stay the way you are, Just like what Johnny had told you...What is it, Oh, yeah...Promise me you will always Stay Gold. Do it not just for me, Not Just for Johnny, But For yourself. I know it'll be hard without me, But I want you to keep on going, live on. See the world do things and for crying out loud try talking to some girls...I love you Ponyboy. I always will.
Twobit, Good Old Twobit. I'll miss your wisecracking and your little jokes you pull off. You always knew how to make people smile, I know right now you may not be your wisecracking self right now but... Promise me you will be happy once again. You were like another brother to me Twobit, I'll miss ya.
Steve, Thank you for always having my back, to the time Sandy left me, to the time Ponyboy ran away and to the time I had lost my parents, Thank you. Your the most beat firend anyone can ask for. I'll miss you. I love ya Steve... But, I want you to move on, Don't let me keep you from living, Make good decisions please. Promise me you will.
Anyways For all of you, I want you to think of the good times we had...And I know it may hurt now but one day, you'll smile. Soon things will get better, I love you guys and once again I'll miss you.

By that time Ponyboy had broke down crying, Steve had tears I his eyes, Twobit clenched his teeth, making a funny noise and Darry held on to Ponyboy as he tried to stay tough.
After that things weren't the same, There was no more wreckless, Happy go lucky grin in sight, No synthetic brown eyes, No Golden slicked back hair, No Movie Star looking boy walking through the streets of Tusla. The only way that Soda was brought back to life were in the memories the gang had.
And it would stay that way.
For Sodapop Curtis lived in their hearts just like how Johnny, Dallas, Mr. and Mrs.Curtis Did......
