Finally, my seventeenth birthday arrived. Joy and Jisoo agreed to come over to my house tonight to celebrate. But now as I was concentrating on the components of human cells and chromosomes on my lab table this morning, I sensed a rush of electric wave radiating from someone sliding into the chair near me. I turned to see an angelic face that belonged to no one but Lisa.

"What are you doing here?" I asked surprisingly.

"I'm taking a biology class," she simply said with a smirk. "So how's everything?"

"Still torture," I said truthfully. "But I'm getting better at it now."

"You are," she agreed in a quiet tone.

For some reason, her approval made me smile with pride. Then, Ms. Grace, our professor appeared. She wore her usual lab coat with a lab goggle hanging around her neck. Her bright crimson lips pressed together with a serious look. Ms. Grace is the youngest professor in this school. She got her Ph.D. when she was only twenty, so I really looked up to her. Biology is the only class I take alone since Joy and Jisoo also have their favorites.

"Alright, students, bring me your homework of a banana's DNA," she said. We quickly passed our homework to her. Ms. Grace browsed through our papers with a not-so-impressed look. I was sure everyone got the same result.

"So now you know the similarity between a human's DNA and a banana's, is that correct?" She said. We all nodded silently, because 50% of our DNA is identical with a banana's, which is ridiculously true.

When Ms. Grace asked us to work with our partners on some other plants for today's activity, I turned around on my lab stool to my new partner.

"Lisa?"

"Yes?" Her voice was as smooth as silk when she wasn't mocking, and I somehow wanted to hear that again.

"Well, I'm just wondering... how about us half- bloods?" I asked her quite coyly.

"You still think about what your friend told you the other day?" she asked.

"You heard us?" I said in surprise but then I got it. "Well, of course, you heard us."

"I didn't mean to snoop, but I had to keep an eye on my newly awakened girlfriend," she shrugged.

"So do you believe in that?" I asked, ignoring her overly possessive remark.

"You mean those legends about half-blood children?" she said. "Well, no."

"Why not?"

Lisa just looked at me as if I had zero IQ.

"Does your butt look like you're missing a tail?" she asked back.

I had to bite my lip to prevent screaming at her.

"But why are there such legends about dhampires and stuff like that in the books?"

"That might be true for defective genes to occur in a human-vampire relationship," Lisa said casually. "But the same with humans and humans. You know how genetics can mess up sometimes, don't you?"

"I thought vampires couldn't have children," I admitted quietly. "Aren't they all dead people?"

"There are two types of vampires," she said. "Those who are born and those who are turned. Your father and my mother were the true-blood. They were born, not created. You said it yourself about the evolution that might have helped them just like it did to humans. Only vampires couldn't procreate as productively as humans could. They're not the fittest, so it's rare for them to have children at all. And in our case, we're the rarest."

"I guess that's why there are not many of us that exist," I murmured.

"Actually, there's just the two of us that exist," she corrected.

"What?"

"Well, we are the lucky ones," she said, but a bit sarcastically considering we already broke whatever law the Underworld has by just existing. I really hope we could find the diary and find out why the true- bloods want to eliminate us. Suddenly Ms. Grace walked past our lab table and our conversation was over.

I turned to concentrate on my work with the microscope while Lisa pretended to scribble some notes. Then I felt her shoulder touch mine. I craned my head to find Lisa's face hovering over me.

"Can I see that too?" She simply said. I pushed the microscope to the middle of the table so that she could take a look.

The way our bodies were too close made it hard for me to breathe again. Suddenly I felt a cold hand on my thigh. I jumped a little in my seat, but Lisa didn't seem to care as she started stroking me. I brushed her hand off with a burning glare. To my surprise, Lisa frowned back, as if I was the one who did something improper. Then she put her delicate hand back on my thigh again. It made me shiver with goosebumps, and when I was about to brush her off one more time, Ms. Grace turned around, so I kept still. If the teacher saw me fidgeting, she would be suspicious.

Lisa saw a golden opportunity and kept on stroking sensually, going further up inside my skirt. I took a deep breath, but it turned into a low whimper against my will. From the corner of my eye, my sexual trespasser smirked annoyingly. Her hand slithered over my inner thigh now, squeezing lightly where the heat started to rise. I muffled a sound as her long fingers ran along my sensitive flesh. My legs turned weak with her touch.

I tried to keep my startled mind focused, but Lisa's hand was getting even closer to my feminine part. I was sure my heated core had caused quite a flood. Oh god. Then when Lisa reached over to my cotton panties, I clamped my legs together, blocking her way. Lisa turned her head towards me with an annoyed look. Then she pinched my inner thigh before she withdrew her hand. I let out a loud yelp, causing everyone to turn around to look at us.

"Any problem, Miss. Park?" Ms. Grace asked.

"No professor," I murmured, still glaring at Lisa.

After Biology was over, everyone headed out to the hall. I gripped Lisa by her neck and pushed her to the wall.

"What was that Lisa?!" I snapped in her face with baring teeth.

"What was what?"

"You harassed me in the class!" I hissed, lowering my voice a little.

"Don't say it like that, we are girlfriends," Lisa just said, "You can touch me back if you want."

"You're impossible!" I groaned frustratedly. There was nothing I could do to get some proper senses in this girl's head. With a fuming face, I turned and walked away.

"Hey, I'm sorry, okay?" Lisa called after me as she tried to catch up. "I just couldn't help myself. You're always too tempting."

I stayed quiet, and Lisa didn't say anything further. We just walked in silence. Along the aisle, I could see some weird reactions from the other students, some girls even walked into the walls or bumped into each other when they looked at us. Others looked like they were ready to faint. I knew Lisa was too gorgeous for a mortal, but I didn't find all these exaggerating behaviors necessary.

"Why are they being like that?" I couldn't help asking, knowing full well Lisa enjoyed my betraying curiosity.

She smiled. I just wanted to kick myself.

"Why? Because we are predators," she said casually. "Humans, in general, have this weakness when it comes to beauty. That's how vampires lure in their prey."

I grimaced at this piece of information. Then when we walked past the large shelf of trophies and award honors, Lisa stopped and stared. I came to follow her eyes. She wasn't looking at those shiny medals or trophies but at the stone statues of the school founders.

"There are five founding families," I said, giving Lisa one of the few school details I knew. "Joy's family is one among them."

"My father's family along with the others helped to find this school," Lisa told me back. I almost forgot Lisa also comes from a founding family.

"Which one are you from?" I asked again.

Lisa didn't look at me. She just pointed to a statue in front of us. I turned to gaze at the sculpture of an intelligent-looking woman and the plate that stamped underneath the head. It read: Victoria Ultara, 1709.

My eyes almost bulged out of my head. That's the woman whose name our school bears!

"You are an Ultara?!" I gasped at her in shock. She nodded.

"My full name is Lalisa Manoban Ultara."
