Chaeyoung POV
Doctor Kang has been update us by the hour. Gramps condition was still critical and all we can do is wait. I made a silent promise to myself, if gramps pulled through this I will start to make amends. Not only towards him, but with everyone I kept distant. I have been so absorbed by the accident and everything that I have stopped noticing how hard things were for others. There were many nights were my mind played all the stupid, selfish thing I did and it would keep me awake for hours. My action toward the people around weren't well mannered in the least description. Bitter, hurtful and harsh was the layout of every word I have spoken and every action I have made. Things I regret and will try to set right.
"Just pull through, Gramps. Just pull through." I said in my thought.
At some point during the night, I found myself eating a sandwich and drinking apple juices and carrots juice. Sana brought the food and drinks for everyone. She kept me busy. She sometimes saying witty stuff or telling funny stories. I think my parents were listening too because I could hear mom's low snicker at the same time dad would clear his throat. If I could glare at them to butt out, I would. And as the time passed, I noticed the light slur in Sana's speech and the coldness that invaded her limbs from the lack of sleep. She stifled her yawns the best she could. It must be morning by now. Its rained all night, but there were none. The chirps of early birds gave it away.
"Doctor." Sana told me.
I stood up right on the queue with my heart sinking in my chest. I didn't notice that I eased my grip on Sana's slender fingers the moment I realised how tight I was holding her.
"I'm sorry." I apologise.
We walked towards their voice. My ears perked trying to catch every words. All I could hear was the tremor of my mother's voice like she was holding back tears.
"For now we will keep him in the ICU under observation." I heard Doctor Kang told them.
My parents were praising him with great gratitude. Mom's voice was closer to tears and aunt Jeongyeon voice shook a little. The relief in their voice was unmistakable. The soft cheers and joyful laugh give away the good news. But I still wanted to hear the actual words.
"Chaeyoung." Mom called half laughing half crying.
She hugged me tight and her broke in tears.
"He's going to be fine." She continued.
Someone clasped my shoulder and joined the hugged. Dad repeated mom's words and the tense was in his was no longer there. Then, there was attack on my hair messing it up in every direction. And who else but aunt Jeongyeon would do that to me. Mom slipped away and I heard her talk to someone in content.
"Thank you for being here with us." She said.
Then, she made a low humming sound she always made when she hugged someone. Sana. And just for that I adored my mom even more.
"Lets go see Doctor Kang for the surgery and treatment plan." Aunt Jeongyeon announced.
Mom touch my arm, so I would know she was speaking to me.
"We will be back in a while." She said.
I just nodded. Their footsteps faded as they walked down the corridor. Everyone was talking and laughing. But, I couldn't. I couldn't fall out of the stress and into the relief mode like everyone else. I tried but I couldn't. For a very long time things have not been working the way I wanted them to. I was used to disappointed and I was afraid that this time would be like the ones before. I tried to pin out where Sana stood but the girl was quiet as moose.
"Marco." I said a little louder than I tended to.
I heard she giggle.
"Polo." She said wasn't far at all.
Two arms sneaked around my waist and the body pressed to my side. My heart clattered and my lungs stopped in the middle of what they was doing. I don't even sure if it was an inhale or exhale. The warmth spread through my body like rays of sunshine and every nerve came back to life.
"I'm glad gramps is going to be fine." She said and the smile could be heard in the sweetness of her voice.
"Me too." My voice came out gruff and just like that the relief washed in.
Calming my existence. My arms wrapped around her shoulder. Her hair was incredibly soft to the touch. I rested my chin on her shoulders. Her scent never failed to making me calm. She's never failed to make me calm. This is the first time I touched her hair. This is the first time I hugged her. This is the first time I being this close to her. This is first time we got this close. And I like it. No. I love it. At the exact moment I disclosed, I never wanted it to end.
Aunt Mina and Jeongin dropped by early in the morning to check on us. I introduced them to my parents. Then aunt Mina went to pay gramps a visit. Meanwhile Jeongin went to grab something to eat from the vending machine. Politely, he asked everyone if they needed anything which made mom 'Awe' with how sweet he was. Well, this family never failed made everyone feel comfortable and always being sweet to each other. Like they always have each other for themselves. Minutes later, Sana was being pulled a few feet away from me by her aunt and they spoke in a low tone. Well, I didn't mean to eavesdrop again but I could heard what they talking.
"How are you holding up?" Aunt Mina asked Sana.
"Just fine." Sana replied after a moment of silence.
There was hundreds of question in my head. What are exactly they were talking about? Something wasn't right.
"Hey guys, why don't I drive you home so you two cou-." Aunt Jeongyeon cut off her sentences.
"Jeong-." At the same time aunt Mina was talking too but stopped at the same time.
I tried to get a single sound from the people around me but nothing. I wasn't sure if it was only me or there was some sort of tension around me. What the hell is happening? Did something happen? Why don't anyone told me? Why are I felt tension silence here? Sift fingers entwined through mine, setting my what once was increased heart rate on a bliss of mess.
"What happening?" I asked as I leaned close.
"I think my aunt and your aunt like each other. They not even blinking looking to each other." She said and I can sense smile in her words.
As if on cue, I heard someone clear her theoat and I believe it was aunt Jeongyeon.
"Um- ah, Hi. I'm.. Jeongyeon. Chaeyoung's aunt." She said.
Hearing the mighty Jeongyeon nervous for the first time in my life had me grinning. Oh god! There must be love in first sight. Aunt Mina definitely is a gorgeous and beautiful if she could make this Casanova nervous and shyly just with one sight. God! How I wish I could see all this. I bet aunt Jeongyeon now is red.
