AMOS

"Alright, doc," he started, clasping his hands together like an entrepreneur. "Our first stop, my favourite restaurant. I'm assuming you haven't eaten. If you have, don't tell me because that'll be really embarrassing."

"Lucky for you, I haven't had anything to eat for a while," I admitted.

"That's great!" he exclaimed before interrupting himself. "Uh.. I mean, no that's not great. It's great as in.. good that you haven't eaten because we can eat together. Not like-"

"I get it, you big dork," I snorted. "What are we waiting for? I'm starving."

"Follow me then, kind sir," he beamed before sauntering over to the front door and holding it open for me. I shot him an incomprehensible look over that gesture and walked in as he followed closely behind.

"I didn't bother making any table reservations because this place is horribly underrated," he stated. "I'm surprised more people don't know of this restaurant. You ever heard of it before?"

"Can't say I have," I admitted. "It's quite far from where I live though, so maybe that's why."

He nodded, "I actually grew up around this area. I only moved to your town a couple of months ago after my dad's accident."

"The accident was recent?" I questioned as we took our seats at a table. "I thought it had happened when you were fairly young."

"Nope," he said. "Anyway, you should probably take a look at the menu and decide what sounds most appealing to you."

I concluded that mentioning his father's passing had obviously struck a sensitive nerve and so I decided to let it slide, "Is there anything you'd suggest? You're the one who has been to this place before after all."

"Good point," he said with a lopsided grin before tapping his chin whilst humming, deep in thought. "You should get.. wait, do you eat meat or no?"

"I'm vegetarian."

"Okay okay, could never be me," he chuckled. "I suggest you get the.. mushroom stroganoff maybe, it's delicious."

"What will you be having?"

"Probably some fried rice with tandoori chicken," he responded.

"I used to love tandoori chicken back when I still ate meat," I confessed. "Have you ever tired pani puri? Or samosas maybe?"

"Never heard of those before actually, are they good?" he questioned, tilting his head at me curiously.

"Delicious," I replied. "Do they have those on the menu?"

"Let me check," he said before going through the menu once more. "Ah, it's our lucky day! They have both on the menu. Should we go for it and order those too?"

I simply nodded in response.

-

"That was delicious," I sighed in contentment once we were back in the car. "My stomach's a very happy boy right now."

"Makes the two of us," Micah responded. "Indian food is so good. Maybe I'll invite you to have some Kenyan food next time. I know you'll love it."

"I'm sure I will," I nodded. "But that's for another time. I'm so full right now."

"That samosa was so good," he said, kissing the tips of his fingers like a chef. "Ten out of ten, would definitely recommend."

"It was so funny watching you try to eat the pani puri," I said, chuckling at the image of him trying not to spill it all over himself. "I'm glad you enjoyed it though, I was afraid you wouldn't be able to handle the spiciness."

"I'm black, of course I can handle spice," he started before correcting himself. "Nevermind, my very black father couldn't handle spice at all. He'd always spend three years in the washroom after eating something even mildly spicy."

I laughed at that, "I can relate. My dad could never eat the food my mom cooked for our family."

He grinned to himself at that and started up his car again, "Are you having fun so far, doc? We still have one last destination left."

"Surprisingly enough," I began, shifting in my seat to look over at him. "I am enjoying myself. Which is weird. I was so ready to kill you when I first got out of the house."

He let out a breathy laugh, "I could tell. You had those death-eyes."

"What even are death-eyes?" I snorted, looking out the window as he pulled out of the parking lot and began driving.

"The eyes that you had earlier," he retorted. "Wanna listen to some music again?"

"I'd love to."
