Toni pov
"Come on Toni you have to get up and get ready" Martha spoke
I groaned
"Marty I don't wanna go" I said rubbing sleep out my eyes
"Toni you know you can't miss a day or you won't have all your credits" Martha spoke
"I know, I'm just not in the mood today" I responded
"I know Toni but you really can't afford missing one day" Martha says
"You're right" I said letting out a puff
I got out of bed slowly and started getting ready
* At School
Shelby have been trying to talk to me all day today, and I wanted to talk to her but every time I look at her I think about what and her father did in their own house and it makes me sick
I was sitting at the lunch table with the rest of the group, when Shelby sat beside me I tensed up
"Toni can we talk?" She asked and I could tell she was sad maybe because I been ignoring her all day
"Shelby... I just don't wanna talk to you right now" I responded
"Can you please let me explain please" she pleaded
I stayed silent
She sighed in frustration, I don't know why she's frustrated, I should be the one frustrated
"Trouble in paradise? Fatin asked
"Fuck off" I spoke with a hit of anger
"Yeah, not now Fatin" Shelby spoke
Fatin put her hands up in surrender
After a few awkward seconds of silence Nora broke it
"So Toni, did y'all make it to the championship?" She asked
I shook my head
"We got to win our game tomorrow to make it to the championship" I responded
"Well that should be easy" Fatin says
"Yeah it will be" I responded
"I don't know, the team y'all playing is a very good team, they haven't lost a game this year, y'all lost 3 games this year, and the teams y'all lost to that team skunked them" Rachel spoke
"The games we lost I wasn't in two of them, ima be in this game for sure" Toni responded
"Yeah, we got Toni, so our school definitely winning" Martha says
"Okay but the team our girls are playing against tomorrow has this one girl who is 16 years old and 7 ft tall and I'm not even exaggerating, she average 40-50 points every game cause no one can stop her because she's to tall, she don't even have to jump to dunk the ball" Rachel spoke
"I bet I can stop her" I spoke
"Toni you're to her knees" Rachel says
"Please you're over exaggerating" Dot said taking a bit of her burrito
"She's probably like Leah's height, she can't be 7 ft at 16 years old" I said rolling my eyes
"She makes Leah look like a midget" Rachel responds
"Impossible, Leah, how tall are you?" I asked
"Leave me out of this" Leah responded flipping to another page in her book
"I don't think there's a 7 ft player that's is 16 playing for a high school team" Dot says
"Yeah that's like impossible,you can't be 7 ft while 16" Fatin says
"It's actually not impossible" Nora chimes in
"It's probably possible but I don't believe it" Martha says
"Are you calling me a lair?" Rachel asks with an eyebrow raised
"That's not what I said" Martha responded
"That's basically what you are doing, you're calling me a lair" Rachel spoke
"You said that yourself, don't pin it on Marty" I defended
Rachel pulled out her phone and started typing something
"Look" she huffed out as she handed her phone towards me and Martha
"Woah she is a giant" Martha spoke
I scoffed while I scrolled through the girl's Instagram I found out her name is Jess
I looked at her Ig story where she said 'can't wait to win this game tomorrow so we can gone ahead and prepare for this championship we finna win'
I scoffed again at the words
"Lemme see" Fatin said taking the phone away from me
"Wow, she does make Leah look like a midget" Dot says
"Her feet are huge" Fatin spoke
"How is that even possible?" Dot asked
"Well it's actually really simple to explain- Nora tried to speak before she was cut off
"Nora, we don't really wanna know the answer to that" Dot says
"Leah look at this" Fatin said trying to show Leah the girl
"Can I just focus on my book?" Leah asked eyes never leaving the book
"Fine, look at this Shelby" Fatin tried to show her
"I'm not in the mood" Shelby responded
"Well it don't matter because our girls still going to win, even if the other team has a giant" Martha spoke
"Exactly, because I can't be stop" I said with confidence
"She has highlights on Youtube, her name is Jess smith, you might want to watch it and study her moves, and how she plays" Rachel spoke
I shrugged
"Toni please, I can't take you not talking to me, please just lemme explain" Shelby whispered to me
"Shelby, I just- later okay?" I spoke
She sighed and nodded
Martha pov
* After school
"Toni Shelby asked can she come over after school and I said yes, I'm telling you so you won't be surprised when she comes" I spoke as me and Toni sat down on my bed watching highlights of the 7 ft 16 year older Jess on YouTube on the tv
"Why" Toni asked
"Toni she's really upset if you didn't noticed, she miss you talking to her" I responded
"I'm upset to Marty" she bit back
"Well please Toni, just give her a chance to explain, maybe whatever she says will stop both of y'all from being upset" I replied
Toni puffed
"Maybe you're right, I'll talk to her" she responded
5 minutes later there was a knock at the door and I knew it was Shelby so I went to open it
"Hi" she said once I closed the door when she walked in
"Hey, Toni is in my room" I spoke
"Do she know I'm here?" She asked nervously
I nodded
She followed me to my room
"Ima leave you two to talk" I spoke but before I could walk back out Toni had stop me
"No stay" she said
"Toni ion think this is any of my business" I responded
"Marty, really just stay" Toni said, I looked at Shelby to see how she feel about it
"You can stay" she spoke
I closed my door and sat back on my bed
"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain" Shelby says
Toni nodded
"Look, I didn't want to do that Toni I promise you" she said
"But you did" Toni replied
"I had to" Shelby responded
"No you didn't Shelby, all you had to say was 'no daddy I don't want to help you with the stupid camp' Toni snapped with angry on her face
"It was after he walked in on me and Becca" Shelby said lowly
I watched as Toni face soften
I don't know what happen or who Becca is, but I guess Toni does
"After he told me about how he 'don't want me to be alone' he told me that I had to help him with the camp or he was going to send me off, Toni I was 16 at the time, he could've did it and I wouldn't have a say so, I regret doing it I do, but Toni I didn't want to be sent off and leave Mel and Spence behind" Shelby spoke
"Why didn't you tell me that?" Toni asked
"Because you wouldn't talk to me" Shelby responded
"No, I'm talking about before I went to have dinner with y'all, you know how shit I felt being in that house having dinner with y'all and having to find out that about my girlfriend from her homophobic father" Toni spoke
"I know I should've told you and I'm so sorry, and I know it's not an excuse but I was scared of what you might think of me if I told you" Shelby spoke
"Well yeah I would've felt bad, but I would've got over it because I love you, and it would've been 10x better for you to tell me then for me to find out the way I did" Toni spoke
"I know, I'm sorry" Shelby spoke
Toni sighed
"It's okay, I understand why you did it, but Shelby you can't kept big secrets like that from me, I'm your girlfriend now" Toni spoke
"No more secrets, I promise" Shelby spoke
Toni nodded
"So... do you forgive me?" Shelby asked
Toni nodded with a small smile
I watched as a huge smile appear on Shelby face
"Thank you baby" Shelby responded showering Toni with kisses all over her face
"I love you" Shelby said
"I love you too" Toni responded
"Okay, so you guys are good?" I asked
Shelby looked at me smiling hard than back at Toni
"Yeah we're good" Toni responded before kissing Shelby's hands
"Cool" I responded
We then went back to watching the highlights of the Jess girl
"Look she only makes that one move, she might be tall but she's not as good as me in basketball" Toni spoke
Me and Shelby chuckled at her
Than suddenly there was a knock at the door
"Did you invite someone else over?" Toni asked
I shook my head "not really, but maybe it's Fatin, she said she was going to come over because I told her I want my makeup done for my date tonight with Marcus, and she was too happy about that" I spoke
Toni nodded and put her focus back on the tv
I went to open the door, when I saw who is was I almost choked on air
"What are you doing here?" I asked
