Wait n See

Wait n see

Summer slip in, soft and feathery,

Cool in the morning green.

The human world recedes behind its wall of noise.

It's just us inconsequentials, invisible weights,

Snips sewn tight into the corners.

We do what is necessary.

We hold the flimsy fabric from fluttering away.

We are realists.

Pine siskins guide their chicks to the feeder,

Stuff seeds into gaping need.

Brief and to the point,

Lesson ingested, parents fly away.

I head out with my morning offering,

Hoping I won't discover

Yesterday's abandoned fledglings

Lifeless on the pebbled path.

Chickadee would never do such a thing...

Foreigners flock to these shores,

Every summer more and more.

Soon we'll run across them,

Eyes vacant, deserted on the gravel track

Down to the beach, like beer cans strewn,

A dotted line on the forest's back.

Although sporting a full complement of feathers,

They seem to lack essential aplomb, whilst

Natural selection plays wait n see.
