🗓 1 month after the Jeju Island trip 🗓

8 AM | Micha

"I heard you asked for me?"

A small yap resonated behind me.

"And you too, Yeontannie!"

I squatted down and the fluffy ball jumped into my open arms.

He snuggled against my neck as I scratched his back.

"Good boy..." I spoke to him in a baby voice, patting him some more.

I heard some footsteps behind us.

"You called me?"

Taehyung popped his head out of the bathroom door, his lower face covered with shaving cream.

"I said Good boy, not Daddy..." I smirked and he poked a sexy eyebrow at me. "Hey... That's mine!" I said, eyeing the pink headband holding his hair.

"My hair's too long..." he pouted, sweeping his blond hair in the back.

He disappeared back into the bathroom and I focused on packing Yeontan's stuff for our trip.

Almost a whole month had passed since I moved in with Taehyung.

Dynamite was about to be released in the next weeks and we both knew his schedule was only going to get more hectic after that.

We decided to take advantage of his last weekend of freedom to visit his family in Daegu.

"Ready to go?" Taehyung appeared again, freshly shaved and showered.

"Yep. Did you take your pills?" I asked him, closing Yeontan's bag.

"Oh!" he gasped, turning on his feet.

Taehyung had started taking antidepressants right after his Jeju island trip. It was something he really wanted to try and I was completely supportive of him.

Anything for him to get better.

"OK, let's do a recap."

On our way to Daegu, Taehyung briefed me about the ins and outs of meeting the parents in Korean culture.

"Never ask for a fork..." he began to enumerate on his hand.

I smiled during his whole pep talk. He seemed so excited about the idea of me meeting his family.

"Also, don't get surprised but..." Taehyung warned with a sly smile. "Whenever I visit Daegu, my parents invite the whole family to see me..." he chuckled. "So you might meet some uncles, aunts, perhaps some cousins..."

I chuckled, raising my eyebrows at him.

"Well, thanks for the heads up..." I answered, faking a panicked look.

In reality, I was just as excited as him.

I knew this weekend was going to take our relationship to a whole new level. And I was ready for it.

After a three-hour drive and four different fights about the car playlist, we arrived at his family's country house in Daegu.

The gates opened as soon as we approached. I assumed they were already waiting for us.

"Before we go, there's something I need to tell you..." Taehyung said softly, driving the car up the gravel path.

I felt a knot tying in my stomach as I looked up to the beautiful house standing proud and tall at the top of the hill.

"What...?"

Taehyung turned the wheel to park on the side of the house.

"Just for us... To be on the same page..."

I turned my eyes to him.

"Regarding what I said to my parents about you..."

I frowned.

His eyes looked everywhere around us, except in my direction.

His face didn't show any emotion as he finished parking.

"I told them..."

He cleared his throat, still avoiding my eyes.

"We've been dating for a year."

He spoke quickly as he pulled the key out.

"We're not living together."

My eyes widened.

He continued speaking just as fast.

"We're not having sex."

I gasped.

"We barely had our first kiss."

He turned to me, an innocent smile on his full lips.

"Cool with you?"

I blinked.

Not cool. Not cool at all.

Not waiting for my answer, his hand got on the door handle and he briefly smiled at me before opening it.

"Tae!" I yelled, extending my arms to catch him.

My fingers closed on thin air as he quickly escaped the car.

I heard him chuckle and I jumped out.

"Tae! You can't be doing that to me now!" I hissed at him as he opened the trunk.

"Taehyung-ah?"

Both of our heads rose up to the woman at the window.

"Taehyung-ah!" she cheerfully yelled when her son waved back at her.

"Eomma!"

The woman disappeared back inside and I turned back to my boyfriend.

"Tae..."

He completely ignored me as I tugged on his sleeve.

He knew he was in trouble.

"They will love you, don't worry!" he pecked a kiss on my forehead before grabbing our bags.

"Taehyung-ah!"

This time, it was a tall man walking to us, a warm smile on his face.

I bowed to him right away, feeling my heart pounding fast in my chest.

He bowed back to me before embracing his son.

As soon as I saw Tae's smile... I forgot about everything that might go wrong.

He looked so happy.

And it was making me so happy to see him like that.

Taehyung's father made a few jokes at his son and I politely laughed with him.

He showed us the flowers he had just planted in the entrance and we both praised his work.

The laughing stopped as soon as Yeontan got released from his little car nook and tried to destroy the flowers.

"Yah! Leave them alone! They don't care about your plants!"

Taehyung's mother was waiting for us at the door, her fists against her hips. I felt the knot in my stomach tightening.

"Tannie!" she squealed, squatting down as the fluffy ball ran into her arms.

"Hey! Your son is here too!" Taehyung joked before hugging her.

I was amazed at all the little details and quirks I was recognising from him in his parents. It made me like them instantly.

I bowed to his mother and she warmly smiled at me.

Taehyung formally introduced me to his parents and I smiled and bowed to them again.

I felt so relaxed in the car, and now, I could feel my palms getting sweaty.

His father showed me some family pictures hanging in the entrance hall and I laughed at Taehyung's reaction.

"Appa...We literally just arrived!" he made a face at his father. "No potty pictures yet, please!"

He smiled at me before following his mother upstairs, carrying our bags.

I exchanged a bit with his father before walking up the stairs too.

"But Eomma..."

I heard Taehyung's familiar whines coming from one of the rooms.

"Not under my roof."

I identified his mother's voice, speaking in a very strict tone to him.

I waited at the top of the stairs, not sure of what to do.

A door opened next to me.

His mother seemed surprised to find me there. She quickly recomposed herself before giving me a warm smile.

"Take some time to refresh yourself up..." she spoke to the inside of the room. "...and we'll be having lunch altogether, OK?" she said to me with a soft smile.

I nodded, thanking her and bowing to her as she walked downstairs.

Ouch, I held my lower back with a wince on my face.

I'll probably break in two before the end of the weekend with all this bowing around.

I pushed the bedroom door, discovering a very distraught Taehyung sitting on the bed inside.

"What's wrong?"

He sighed when he saw me, brushing his blond hair in the back.

"My mother prepared two rooms for us."

I frowned.

"She doesn't want us... to sleep in the same room."

He sighed with despair and I snorted.

"Really?"

"I'll sleep in my room. And you'll have the guest room."

He pursed his lips, looking up at me.

"Does that bother you?"

"Of course not," I assured him, going to sit next to him.

The mattress made a loud squeaking sound as soon as I sat on it.

"Not sure we'd have been able to get much action anyway..." I chuckled, twitching on the bed to make it squeak louder under my weight.

"Look at you, dirty-minded girl..." Taehyung smirked, wrapping one arm around my waist. "I was regretting not getting to cuddle you tonight... And all you think of is getting me naked between the sheets..."

He tickled me and I squealed, laughing under his predicament.

He chuckled back, before getting up and taking my hand,

"It's very different in the USA, right?"

I shrugged.

"Not really. It was the same when I slept over at my high-school boyfriend's on the weekends..." I said, remembering my teen years.

He squinted his eyes at me.

"That's..." he tilted his head to the side, glaring at me now. "...Not a story I'd like to hear."

I escaped the room before he could pinch my ass.

We quickly refreshed ourselves and changed before joining his parents downstairs.

"Where's Sooyun? And Joowhan?" Taehyung asked for his siblings.

"Sooyun is around here. Joowhan is most probably playing his new video game upstairs..." his father shrugged.

Taehyung's eyes widened and he quickly glanced at me.

"Go," I chuckled as an answer, pushing him away.

"Be right back!" he smiled at us, going to meet his brother.

His parents were both busy around the kitchen.

"May I help with anything?" I politely offered, holding my hands together.

Operation: Make a good impression on parents ON.

"Oh, do you mind giving some water to Tannie before I forget?" his mother asked, handing me a bowl full of water. "He's running around the garden I believe."

I smiled and nodded before walking with the bowl to the terrace.

"Yeontaaaan!" I yelled, placing the bowl by the door.

Nothing.

"Yeontannnniiii-"

My voice got cut short when I got to meet a pair of deep dark eyes behind a bush.

"Oh-"

"Are you Micha?" she immediately asked, tilting her head to the side, a twinkle in her eyes.

She didn't even wait for my answer and bowed right away to me.

"Y-yes!" I answered, bowing back just as fast.

Ouch.

I recognized instantly the girl I had seen in Taehyung's family pictures.

She was carrying a bunch of wildflowers between her arms and a few of them had fallen on the ground.

I helped her gathering them, peeking a few times at her.

Her very short hair and puffy rosy cheeks, added to the pastel colors she was wearing, were making her look like a spring fairy.

"You're Sooyun, right?" I confirmed, smiling at her.

She shyly nodded, gathering all the flowers between her arms.

"Let's get you a vase..." I said, grabbing one on the garden table.

Sooyun thanked me and I helped her get all the long stems flowers in the vase.

"You're very pretty," she shyly said to me.

"Ah! You're very pretty too!" I smiled back, brushing my long hair behind my ears.

She was wearing a sweatshirt at least five sizes bigger than her. Her thumbs were tucking out of some holes in the long sleeves.

I had a hard time imagining she was only a year younger than me.

"Taehyung said you were half-American?" she said, her stare glued to the flowers, making some final adjustments to the bouquet.

I nodded back with a smile.

"That's so cool... I've never been to the US."

She blinked a few times, a broken smile on her face.

"Oh... I'll take you there then!" I offered sincerely with a bright smile. "You should come with Taehyung! I'll take you all for a tour!"

She chuckled nervously, looking down at her lap, playing with some threads falling out of her sleeves.

"Girls! Boys! Lunchtime!" her mother called from the inside.

We all gathered around the living room table.

Taehyung's face lit up as soon as he saw Sooyun. He embraced her tightly and it warmed my heart to see how much love he had for his family.

I also got to meet Taehyung's brother, who was just as extroverted and made me feel comfortable right away.

"Do you like his new hair, Micha?" he mocked, pulling a golden lock out his brother's head.

Taehyung snapped his hand out and this one chuckled.

"Still better than the blue hairstyle from last time..." her mother mocked in her turn, raising judgemental eyebrows as she placed some side dishes on the table.

Taehyung and I exchanged a smile.

As lunch started, everybody got curious about me and I barely had the chance to eat Taehyung's mother's delicious cooking.

"Your Korean is really good," his father commented at some point.

"Thank you," I smiled, before grinning at Taehyung, next to me. "And please say that to your son... He made fun of my accent the first time we met."

His father sucked his tongue against his teeth before hitting his son's head.

"YAH!" Taehyung whined, rubbing the back of his head.

Everybody laughed.

"And when did you meet by the way?" Joowhan asked, engulfing a big scoop of rice.

"It was-"

"At the Billboard Music Awards, last year."

I turned to Taehyung who was staring at me with intense eyes.

"Yes," I confirmed with a strong nod. "There was a party after the ceremony... We met there."

Technically, it wasn't a lie.

Everybody nodded around the table, continuing the conversation.

I smiled for myself, remembering the No-Sense party.

Below the table, I felt Taehyung's fingers softly caress my thigh as his family was discussing the afternoon's plans.

A simple touch, but enough to send shivers all around my body.

"Thank you for the meal," I said near the end of the lunch. "Everything is so delicious... I understand why Taehyung is so bad at cooking now," I joked and everybody laughed.

"I'm not even mad," Tae nodded with a shrug. "It's the truth."

"Nobody even tries cooking here, when she's the competition..." his father frowned, giving a slight nod of the head to his wife.

Their eyes met and they smiled at each other.

I had to admit my heart melted a little when I witnessed the loving smiles his parents just exchanged.

"Who's the best cook at your house?" Joowhan asked, his mouth still stuffed with food. "Your mother or your father?"

Below the table, I felt Taehyung's hand stiffened on my thigh.

Something else must have happened below because, the next second, Joowhan winced with pain, holding his calf between his hands.

Taehyung's mother gave a severe stare at her second son before clearing her throat.

"Oh..." I spoke quickly, trying to diffuse the tension. "Well... My father was the best cook. He's the one who taught me some Korean recipes..."

I looked down to my lap, wondering why I was even trying to pretend I was alright.

It had not even been a year.

"Micha is a great cook too!" Taehyung took over, his thumb rubbing comforting circles on my knee. "She's the only reason I'm not starving in Seoul without Eomma around!"

The conversation picked from there, but Taehyung never stopped his soothing motions on my knee.

We spent the rest of the day at his family's house.

Many family members visited over the afternoon. As Taehyung had planned, I got to meet many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Funny enough, they seemed just as pleased to see Yeontan as they were to meet Taehyung again.

Everybody was nice and curious of me.

After some time, I concluded Taehyung's father was the most welcoming member of his family. He was always making sure I was included in the conversations, always with a warm smile on his face.

Taehyung's mother seemed more reserved with me. At times, I caught her observing me from afar, before looking away.

Weird.

Someone who also kept looking at me was Taehyung himself. Except he didn't hide it at all. He looked so happy to see me mingling around with his relatives.

After another big family meal for dinner, I felt exhausted from all this bowing, smiling, and chit-chatting. I tried to hide my yawns, with no success.

"Thank you," I bowed again to his parents after they encouraged me to get to bed.

After a quick shower, Taehyung and I exchanged a long good-night kiss in front of the guest bedroom.

"Did I do well?" I asked, rubbing my nose against his.

"You did amazing," he said with a soft smile. "They all loved you."

He pecked a kiss on my lips.

"You're so easy to love..."

He kissed me again, deeper this time, and for the first time, I really regretted not sleeping in the same room with him tonight.

"Good night," he whispered in my ear.

He kissed my hand, giving me one last longing stare before going down the stairs.

"Good night..."

I sighed, slipping under the covers.

For some reason, I could not find sleep that night. I kept thinking about everything that happened today.

I thought again of Sooyun's flowers spilling to the ground. I thought of Taehyung's mother glimpsing at me from time to time.

The sound downstairs slowly faded away and I assumed everybody must have gone to bed.

I sighed again, turning below the covers.

When I was finally falling asleep, I heard a soft scratch against my door.

A quiet squeak broke the silence and the door opened.
