Nightfall finally came and the five of them were off again, running towards the abandoned mall Vera and Jane had found on the map.
It was quite a lot bigger than she had expected, and the newborn vampires were definitely inside. She could hear them loud and clear, arguing amongst each other. Then she heard a louder, distinctly female voice tell them to all shut up. To her surprise, they did. "She must be the one training them" Vera thought. Clearly she wasn't the only one thinking that as Felix had looked over, raising a brow to signify his confusion.
They made their way around the mall, hoping to find an opening where they could get the female alone. However, fortunately for them, the female walked right out. Vera thought she looked familiar, but she couldn't quite place where she knew the girl from.
Once she was far enough away from the building Jane wasted no time inflicting her gift onto the girl, who fell to her knees, then onto the floor. She was in so much pain not a single sound fell from her open mouth. Venom, however spilled out; it looked like she was drooling. Once she was released from Jane's fiery grip she gasped for air and sat up, onto her knees. Felix stood behind her, ready to rip her arms out at any sudden movement.
"Vera?" The girl sputtered, recognition all over her face.
"Ichika?!" Vera all but yelled. Her old high school friend stared at her with wide scarlet eyes.
"You know her?" Jane and Felix said simultaneously
"When she was human." Vera said, still staring at the vampire on its knees "I thought the American's atomic bomb killed you."
"It nearly did. If my love, Augustine didn't find me and change me when he did I would have just been another forgotten casualty in World War Two." Ichika said, fury tainted her every word. The Volturi were the ones behind WW2, fighting with two different covens simultaneously for the addition of Demetri and Chelsea into their ranks. Augustine had explained to her the influence that vampires had unintentionally in human affairs and that in nearly every human war a vampire war paralleled it.
Demetri smirked, being reminded that the Volturi had fought a war for him was truly an ego boost. Felix stiffened at the reminder of WW2. Alec rolled his eyes not caring for the passive aggressiveness "So you admit to working alongside Augustine."
"I admit to nothing witch twin." She spat. Then she doubled over in pain again, falling to the floor, unable to move as her brain lit her body on fire.
"That's okay, you don't have to admit to anything in order for us to kill you." Jane said as she released the Ichika
"I'm disappointed in you, V. I can't imagine the devastation your father must be feeling at the fact that you're dating someone who slaughtered thousands of people. From what I remember you couldn't even allow an unborn fetus to not get the nutrition it needed. Now look at you, a vermin, a disgusting Voltur-" Before she could get the rest of her string of insults out Vera's hand met her face. A slap so hard the sound echoed off the metal lightning rod more than ten feet away from them
"I suggest you don't speak on what you don't know." Vera said calmly, too calmly. She knelt in front of her old high school friend. She took away all of the girl's desire and love for her mate, Augustine. With that gone, the loyalty quickly dissipated.
"You are not worth the time and energy already spent." Vera said "Where is Augustine? Tell me and I'll consider not allowing Felix to kill you."
"Lies, he'll kill me anyways." Ichika snarled, picking up on Vera's fib.
Vera rolled her eyes "Fine, alright. Augustine's life for yours. I swear I will not allow Felix to even touch you."
That seemed to satisfy Ichika as she said "He's on his way back from Poland. He'll be at the Václav Havel Airport in an hour."
"Good girl." Vera said, tucking a strand of Ichika's hair behind her ear. Standing up she made eye contact with her mate, sending him an unsaid message. "Alec." She said, her eyes narrowing to point to the vampire on the ground.
Alec then rushed forward, ripping Vera's high school friend's head clean off. Message received.
"You are more sadistic than I thought you to be." Jane said, she was starting to like her brother's mate more and more.
"Never pegged you for a liar." Demetri said, flicking his silver lighter open and setting the vampire's disassembled body to flame.
"I didn't lie. I swore Felix would not touch her. I said nothing of Alec." Vera said crossing her arms to look at the burning body
"As cunning as she is beautiful isn't she?" Alec said kissing her forehead
"Anyways." Felix rolled his eyes at Alec's small display of affection "Václav Havel Airport. Let's go."
And they were off again.
"There's so many people. What are we meant to be looking for?" Vera asked
"For Augustine." Felix looked at her as if she were stupid. She sighed giving him a "Really?" look.
"Watch out for anyone wearing sunglasses. We can assume he went to Poland to create more newborns so also look for anyone who appears like they're struggling not the kill everyone in here." Demetri said "Hey wait, you're half dog, can't you just sniff them out?"
"You're the tracker, can't you just track them?" She glared at him
"Touché." He said with a small smile
"There." Alec said
Sure enough, there were three men about 100 yards from them. Two of them were wearing sunglasses and the one in the middle's eyes were so dark he didn't need it. Like Demetri said the other two seemed to have a hard time staying still and the one in the middle appeared to be incredibly nervous. She would be too if she had to walk through a crowded airport with two newborn vampires.
"We follow them outside." Jane said as they started walking towards the three.
As soon as the three were outside they started running. Fortunately for the five Volturi guards they had planned for this moments before it actually happened. Alec and Demetri would go at them from the west while Vera, Jane, and Felix went at them from the east, causing the perfect interception.
Right before the three were about to jump down from the waterfall they were met with their end.
"Hello Augustine." Alec said causing the three vampires to halt and snarl at the five. "I assume you know who we are and why we've come."
"Because three of my men were careless and got caught. Clearly they folded if you have found me. Spineless fools" Augustine grumbled
"Who are you?" One of the newborns snarled, upset their creator was being threatened. He was on the floor, writhing in pain seconds after.
"Don't talk when you're not spoken to." Jane sneered, releasing him after a moment or two. The other newborn backed up, fearful of the little blonde vampire and her friends.
"Go ahead, kill me. My plans will still fall into place with or without my presence." Augustine said, raising both hands in a gesture of surrender
"It's too bad we killed your mate." Alec said
"Who? Ichika?" Augustine laughed "She is not my mate, simply a necessary pawn. You'll never find my true mate, he won't come back to prague any time soon."
"You forget who I am?" Demetri asked a fake look of hurt sprawled on his face. "You are connected to him. The tenors in your mind are intermingled with his. I already have his location pinned to the city, all we have to do is look around."
If vampires could pale Augustine would have been even whiter than he already was. His face fell and his eyes held panic in them. He knew it was now just a matter of time before the Volturi killed him, his mate, and his army.
"Well, now that we've got that. I think we're finished here. Felix" Jane said, her eyes pointing to the three vampires.
Swiftly Felix ripped the two vampire's heads off, leaving Augustine.
"Shame, really. If you were just the tiniest bit more selective in your choice of men we may not have caught you." Felix said to him right before ripping his head off
"Demetri, where is his mate?" Jane asked turning to face the Russian tracker
"Pasco, Washington." Demetri said smirking "Maybe we'll see the Cullens again."
Pasco. Washington. So close.
"Let's take care of the newborns, then we have a flight to Washington to catch I suppose." Jane said
