The lunch become uneventful, aside from Alec, short for Alexandro the name of our president, whose being so silent and observant, Jem is very unhelpful as if testing the depths of my patience which of course become unlimited for a while in front of Alec.
This is important to me so trying hard not to crease and frown I exerted a beaming smile to Jem while I secretly kicked him underneath which as gentleman as he is, return the favor with a stronger kick which almost limped me for a while. Good thing were sitting or else I'll be invalid for a while.
I forced again a smile. Im gonna kill this man sometime soon.
"So Sir. ." I emphasized feeling all the vitues of patience leaving my side. --"what so far would you like to suggest further?"
He leaned on his chair composed and looking at me for sometime and as for reading him I bet he is playing my promotions in his hand. Could he not be so cruel? Or atleast be bitter? Or was it just me being so paranoid?
"Im still studying the market. .I'll give you a ring if I have something more in mind. We can't somehow rush things, we need to take every analysis here." He said as he balanced his words and creased his brows as if contemplating things on his mind.
"But Ive studied it too, the market and the pre-analysis has been negative. We took also the testing stage and it yield indifferent results. Though the last market testing has proven to be penetratable and stable. I really suggest a market rundown rather than costings on different stages." I counteracted. Was he even serious? He knew the launch will be in a months time because of it being long over due and yet were still faced up with what he studies?
Im right even higher ups make a foolish decisions same as with the consultant.
"Im the consultant here. Do you think I don't know what Im doing?" His voice sounded a bit hurt but mocking, making me clench fist under the table. This man is impossible!
"I--" I trailed off as he wave his finger and speak again.
"or do you think Im incapable enough to fulfill my duty?" Again his tone was more challenging, like Ive wounded some of his pride.
"I--" trailed off again. Argh! His getting on my nerves.
"If that's the case I guess you won't be needing my help. Nor would your company hire me and ask for my professional assistance and views if they are even alteast satisfied with your calls."
Keeping my temper at bay I breath before answering. "not everything was my call though. We form a quorom on this matter and the pre--" I look at the presidents side and continue disregarding what he may think. Goodness. Come what may. --"president and Executive VP make the calls. We suggest things up."
"so that still means your making decisions." he concluded with his hands laying on the table as if hammering the finality.
"yes .and No. Yes because we suggested but most of our efforts are strained and countermanded which leaves us to double check costings and product analysis in different scenarios." I almost flared but keeping my cool and checking my tone, I emphasized on the right word. He just can't beat me, and I wont lose without even defending myself.
"Cassandra." The president called my attention and held my hand which I automatically pulled making me almost regret my decision. I mean what if his just being friendly? Shocks. Reflexes could really be bothersome sometime.
"Im sorry." He said apologetically to me. "Anyway. We have more than two months and if this launch failed well we just hope the probation would still be there. No worries. It may be under your wing but were still the one maneuvering the flights so its our burden too. Now, I hate to leave but I have my next meeting coming so I guess I should leave the two of you then to discuss matters further." He said in a low and friendly voice which makes me more guilty of my act. Tsk. Im so paranoid and reflexes really aren't helping me too.
The president rose and give me a tap on my shoulder which made me almost jump. Shit. This is not really good. My body is not cooperating, I feel like I was just too jumpy and hesistant for any touch.
"bye." He said and then flee away making me sigh with unknown feeling. How fate could be so cruel and all. Couldn't it atleast took my side just for once?
"so your saviour is gone." I look back to Jem again forgeting the retreating figures of Alec. "Its you and me now. And since we have nothing else to discuss then lets just adjourn and meet again. I'll contact you soon enough." He said while standing up fixing the button of his coat and standing erect being a stranger all of a sudden with his distant tone. His face is dark and impassive. He look suddenly matured and away like I don't know him at all.
"Besides I'll be seeing Emme." He said unsure making his expression change a bit, maybe because he thought I'll assualt him for that which I didn't. Well their lovers and knowing Jem if he hadn't changed much he usually visit his girlfriend either planned or a surprise one as long as he has free time and he usually calls too.
I shrug with the memory. How ill of me to remisce such things. I mentally shook my head pushing things aside I suddenly looked up to see his face which makes me regret it, because I hate to see him so eager to leave me. But then again being near him means losing my sanity, departing from reality and even time travelling from the past so that just means I better go too. I better be the one to leave than be left behind.
With no further word I stood up and hastily walk away just in time to see Ariel standing from one of the nearby tables.
Did he just follow me here? Such a friend, this must be the reason why he said bad news when I need to meet up with the president. He somehow knew Ill be seeing the consultant which by the way how did he know it would be Jeremy? He must have known or else he wouldn't be concerned this much that ended up him following us, or maybe just me.
He smile faintly and walk towards me and when we reach each other he place his hand in my back making me lean a little bit closer to him.
"you okay?" He asked concern evident in his voice.
I just nodded unwilling to speak, Im too dazed to speak of anything coherent. And then as I was being led by Ariel suddenly a figure walk past us as if stomping away.
I furrowed my brow. Jem usually do that when he is mad or pissed off which in the current event was not or did not even happen. Not that I make him that mad when I left him when he was the one suggesting we part our ways and look for the next meeting. Right?
Shrugs. Letting go of the event I just let Ariel guide me and walk me out the restuarant. He knew my relationship with Jem, He knew we were not in Good terms. He knew he hated me and maybe he knew too that Im affected too much by his presence. After all he reads me too well like Im an open book right?
