26. "Am I dreaming?"
It's the summer break, or well at least it is for Max, whilst I'm unfortunately studying and attending online lectures.
Since he got back from Hungary we'd spend our mornings together and after that we'd keep our distance till late in the afternoon when i was done with my work, so he'd usually spend his time training or even gaming with friends, good for me.
I'll admit that I'm content with where we are in our relationship, being that couple thats chilled and just enjoys the moment is much more precious to me than going out and doing fancy things all the time. Some days it would be us watching a movie and I tend to find myself distracted by looking at him for a brief moment, then realising I was playing with his fingers and tracing lines for the longest time yet being oblivious. It's moments like these that I appreciate.
Everyday since the race has been the same, nothing has changed and nor do I want anything to change, until Thursday evening he gave me a heads up that theirs a Redbull dinner event in partnership with Tag Heuer here in Monaco, and he wanted me to be his date.
I was of course delighted because besides trying to shy myself away on race weekends whilst still trying to be the supportive girlfriend, at least this should be more special since he isn't on the track this time.
Friday morning came around and I was more stressed about what I was going to wear tonight rather than my lectures and work for uni. It was just about 10am, Max was back from his workout and I was just preparing breakfast. "Okay so what time did you say that the event is tonight ?" I asked as I tried to speed up the process.
"It's at 7pm so we have plenty of time from now" he said as he came up behind me and stole a strawberry from my bowl. I glanced at him for a second and lightly hit his hand as a warning to not eat anymore strawberries. "Easy for you to say when you already have a suit sent for you to wear ! I have nothing to wear" I fake cried.
"I have nothing to wear" He mocked. "By that I mean that's appropriate for tonight" I rolled my eyes at him. "I knew you were going to say that" he paused. I raised my brows at him to continue, "So that's why I pulled through and got you a dress for the evening" he said. "Wait what" I said in shock as I dropped the knife onto the counter to then turn and face him.
"Open the bag" he gestured with his eyes towards the dress cover bag that was folded on the dining table. "No no no" I said as I started to unzip the bag. It was a beautiful off shoulder nude pink dress, "I feel bad now because I could have literally worn something I already own" I pouted. "Don't feel bad, I wanted to spoil you for all that you've done for me" he said as he walked towards me and rubbed my shoulders. "It's also Victoria's choice and I agreed with her that this is just perfect for you" he smiled. "Aww bless her...you're making me blush now. Stop" I half laughed as I pushed him away.
We then proceeded to eat our breakfast and just like that, time flew by quickly. Max had left after eating to sort out some things whilst I tried to do some work before beginning to get ready.
At 5pm I started by curling my hair and opted for the pin curl method to feel fancy for tonight's event. Once I was done, I moved onto my makeup, settling for smokey eyes and nude lips to balance out the dress. Just as I was halfway through my makeup look, Max came back. "You took awfully long.. everything okay ?" I asked as I looked at him through the mirror. "Yeah everything is fine, was just told in advance some things that I need to do at the event tonight" he said as he removed his t-shirt. "Okayyy" I trailed as I started to play some music.
No surprise that he was ready before me and was just sitting at the edge of the bed on his phone, whilst I was spraying my face and brushing my hair into side swept curls. After one final look and being content with the outcome, I slipped into the dress and then into a pair of nude heels.

I lastly sprayed on some perfume, then turned to face him, "Okay I'm ready !" I said enthusiastically. He broke his glance from his phone to look up at me in shock. "You look- I- you look absolutely gorgeous" he said in awe. "Awww thank you babe, you're looking dapper, cleaned up nicely" I said as I walked over and adjusted his tie. "You're going to steal the limelight tonight" he smiled as we headed out to leave. I grabbed my purse and followed along, "Oh my word... I'm just thinking now, am I not overdressed ?" I asked hesitantly. "No, of course. Victoria and I settled on this dress for you for a reason. If anything, you look like a princess" he smiled at me as he held my door open.
Since Monaco is a small country, it was less than 10 minutes to drive from Max' apartment to the venue. He parked not far away from the port which had me confused. "The event is on a yacht ?" I asked in shock. He simply nodded his head and grabbed my hand to lead the way. "Did you just happen to forget to mention that major detail ?" I asked. "Wait for it" he said as we got onto a docked yacht.
There was a set table surrounded by candles and rose petals for just the two of us. The sight had me emotional and made me feel overwhelmed. "Do you like it ?" He asked from behind me. "I'm speechless. You outdid yourself tonight. I love it" I smiled back at him. "Care to join me for dinner then ?" He held out his arm. "Well of course" I said as I linked my arm with his.
The whole evening I was in shock, just didn't show it. I wasn't used to doing something this fancy, but I kept reminding myself to savour this precious moment since we don't get to spend as much time together like this.
After a lovely dinner of laughing and talking about our firsts together, his phone started to ring. He excused himself whilst I walked over to the head of the yacht to appreciate the breathtaking sunset.
"Sorry about that, it was my mum" he said as he came up behind me. I turned around to face him, "Aww no worries, what did she have to say ?" I asked. "She phoned to ask if I did this" he said as he then dropped onto one knee with a diamond ring in hand. My hands immediately went to cover my mouth. OMG. "Am I dreaming ?" I said out loud. "No" he laughed.
"You're the first person I want to look at when I wake up in the morning, and the only one I want to kiss goodnight, because the first time that I saw these hands, I couldn't imagine not being able to hold them. But mainly, when you love someone as much as I love you, getting married is the only thing left to do. I know we're young, but I want you to be there with me every step of the way. So (Y/N) (Y/L/N)...will you marry me. You can only say yes" he joked at the end.
"Of course I'll marry you !" I screamed as he then, cupped my cheeks and placed his lips on mine. After breaking away from the kiss, he then slipped the ring onto my finger and lifted me up as he spun us around. "I can't believe I was so oblivious to you clearly being sus today" I shook my head. He burst out laughing, "All the better that you were, otherwise this whole surprise would've been ruined and I wouldn't have done it." "I can't believe we're going to get married !" I screamed in excitement. It then hit me that I didn't even look at my ring, "Oh my word" I said lowly as I admired the ring. "It looks good on you" he said as he looked at my finger. Feeling overwhelmed I then burst into tears and couldn't control it.
"Aww don't cry" he said in awe as he pulled me in for a hug and kissed my forehead. Just then our family's came onto the yacht yelling, "Surprise !"
I was an emotional wreck trying to contain myself to thank everyone but it just wasn't working in my favour. After a few deep breaths, Victoria came over to hug me, "Omg Vic, thank you for picking out this stunning dress" I pouted. "Anything for my sister-in-law" she smiled. "Oh my, I need to get used to hearing that" I gasped. My dad then patted Max on the back saying, "Welcome to the family son." "Yeah same" Max added.
