Remus sighed as Alex stared into his soul,
"Well, first things first, My name is Remus, and I'm a werewolf,"
Clearly, that wasn't the answer Alex was expecting as he almost dropped his torch,
When Alex stopped fumbling for his torch, Remus could see that his face was deathly pale
"Y-Your not lying," Alex stated, which was true, although Remus thought that he could have told Alex in a more subtle way, or would have planned him for the big shock,
"So, do you have...like a bite," he asked,
"Oh yeah," Remus responded, he shoved some of his long hair out of the way and showed Alex his very faint bite mark,
"Cool," Alex responded, which wasn't the answer Remus expected, "I didn't know werewolves existed, anyways, continue,"
So, Remus told Alex everything, well, not everything maybe, he did leave out the detail about the magical world and his hatred for wizards, other than that, Remus told Alex everything.
"Oh," Alex said, right now they were both sitting on the carpet, "So, you wanna run away to save this girl?"
"Yeah, and also to avoid getting sent back to my parents,"
"Damn, and I thought my life was crazy," Alex responded as he ran his hand through his hair, "So, your running away tonight?"
"Yep,"
They sat in silence for a while, Alex looked deep in concentration,
"Well, obviously, you don't have a key to get out of the place, but, I know where you can find a key,"
"Really?" Remus asked, suddenly alert now,
"Yeah," Alex said, but then sighed, "Unfortunately it's a key for the backyard door, which you then have to climb over a fence, but, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I don't think you've been to the backyard-"
"I haven't," Remus interrupted, "I didn't even know there was a backyard,"
"Well, there is," Alex said and he pointed a finger to a little door at the back of the room which Remus didn't even notice,
"So, the person who has the key to that door is Stinky Sally-"
"Oh no,"
"Oh no indeed," Alex said, "I know she sleeps in a bed in her kitchen, don't ask me why," Alex quickly added the last part when he saw the puzzled look on Remus's face,
"So," Remus said, "We just steal the key from her and then I'm free?"
"Yep,"
"Okay, let's do it!"
The two of them got up and walked to the kitchen door, Alex put his hand on the door handle, Remus prayed that the door wasn't locked.
Alex turned the handle and it was locked.
"That's it! I'm done for!" Remus groaned as he ran his hand through his hair, several beads of sweat tricked down his face as the stress and fear built up inside of him,
Alex turned sharply to him, "Don't give up hope yet!" Alex snapped, "I'll think of another way, I know I will-"
"What are you pipsqueaks doing here?" A voice boomed, Alex fell silent as Remus's heartrate picked up, his first thought was that it was Albert, but the voice was too high to be Alberts.
Two torches got flipped on at the exact same time, making Remus squint and he saw in the distance was Will,
"My gosh," Alex whispered, "Is everyone getting up tonight?"
"Your the one to talk Alex," Remus told him, "You were watching me wake up like a creep!"
"Yeah, well-"
"You still didn't answer my question!" Will said, he was now staring down at them both,
"We were stealing from Stinky Sally," Remus declared, as Alex gave him a sharp look, he decided that he was gonna tell the truth anyway,
"Oh, same," Will said, "I wanted to steal more food, I'm hungry,"
Remus shook his head, "No, not food, we wanted to steal the key for the backyard,"
Will raised an eyebrow, "What? Why though-"
"You're giving him too much information!" Alex whispered into Remus ear and jabbed him softly in the stomach,
"Well, I don't really care what your doing, I'm not wasting any time with you guys," Will said and he whipped out a key from his pocket, walked towards the door and shoved the key in the hole, with a turn and a click, the door swung open and Will slipped through the gap,
"Well, that problems solved," Alex whispered as he pushed the door a little bit more open and he and Remus went inside. Remus never thought that silence could scare him, but here he was, standing at the front of the dining room, shivers running down his back.
"So, where do we go now?" Remus asked, his voice cracking slightly,
"Just at that door over there," A voice said, Remus knew who it was but that still didn't stop him from jumping in surprise,
"You get scared easily," Alex told him,
"Yeah," Will spoke, he turned on his torch and shined it at Alex and Remus, "Anyways, if you wanna go to where Stinky Sally is, you just have to go through the kitchen, you'll then find a door and that's where Stinky Sally sleeps,"
"Cool!" Alex exclaimed a bit to loudly as he ran to the door and moved the handle, not surprisingly, it was locked,
"Dang!" Alex exclaimed as Will and Remus got up to him,
"Dude!" Remus told Alex, punching him softly in the arm, "Shut up!"
"I'm sorry, it's just that these bloody doors are always locked!" Alex responded,
"I have the key," Will responded casually,
"That's great!" Remus joyfully said, "We can just go in there and find the key-"
"I never said I was going to give it to you," Will said and all the hope that filled Remus flickered out like fire on a candle,
"Oh," Alex said,
"I mean, I will-"
"Was that a pun?" Alex asked with a smug smirk on his face,
"No, idiot," Will said, rolling his eyes, "But I wil-, I mean, shall open the door when you tell me why you want the key to the backyard so badly,"
"Oh, we just wanna play a prank on Sti-"
"Cause I wanna escape," Remus interrupted Alex, again, not caring about keeping anything a secret,
Surprisingly, Will didn't question it, "Yeah, I've heard that many times, although only a few percentage of the people who said that actually did it, but they never got away with it, but I'll open the door anyway," he whipped out a rusting silver key and opened the door.
The three of them went inside, the only sound to be heard was the soft dripping of the tap, the place smelled like uncooked meat and rice and although Remus didn't know what she smelled like, he could definitely smell the odour of Stinky Sally.
"Ew," Remus whispered,
"I agree," Alex said as he shined his torch at a wooden door at the end of the kitchen as they walked towards it. Will carefully opened it and the snores of Stinky Sally escaped the room and echoed across the kitchen.
"Ok," Will whispered to them so quietly Remus had to strain his ears to hear him, "If you couldn't guess, Stinky Sally is in there, so, you have to be as quiet as possible, luckily she's a deep sleeper but, if any of you wake her, you will have to witness the wrath of me, understand?"
Alex and Remus both nodded as they all slipped in the door and turned off their torches. The room wasn't much, just a twin-sized bed in the corner, a few drawers and boxes scattered everywhere, the figure in the blanket snored as a gripping fear filled Remus. He was even scared to breath. Will went to the drawers and slowly opened them, cringing every time it made a noise.
Remus clutched Alex's hand as they went around the room, looking for a glittering key of any colour to just appear in front of them, Will searched every drawer and corner of the room for his food.
Remus and Alex found nothing, panic was filling him as they went to Stinky Sally. There! Remus spotted it! It was a glittering golden key hanging from Stinky Sally's neck. Remus reached out his hand for the string to grab it, until Alex slapped his hand back, in the single slap Remus got the message, Too risky!
Alex left the room, leaving Remus confused. He came back, a long sharp knife as he edged towards Stinky Sally. Remus feared for the worse till Alex grabbed the string and gently cut the string, after a while, the string fell off and Alex grabbed the string and key in his fist and put the knife underneath the bed. He grabbed Remus's hand and dragged him to the kitchen and gently closed the door,
"Hey," Will whispered to them, looking slightly disappointed, "Got the key?"
"Yep," Alex said showing him the key, "Got ya food?"
Will shook his head, "No, all I found was a half eaten doughnut,"
They went out of the kitchen and into the hallway. They ran to the backdoor and Alex opened it with the key as the string went to the floor.
Outside was just a whole lot of grass with a tall black gate.
"Well, I guess you're going to have to climb that," Alex told Remus when they all got there, pointing at the gate,
"He's not Spiderman!" Will exclaimed (Remus had no idea who that was), running his hands through his hair, "Honestly, why did I even come out here? Well, I guess we have to make a human tower to get him up that gate. Algerbra, get on my shoulders!"
Alex looked around, "Wait, you mean me-"
"Yes I mean you Alexandria," Will snapped,
"So close," Alex whispered as he got on Wills shoulders,
"Okay, Bobby-"
"My names Remus by the way," Remus told him, Will rolled his eyes
"Does it matter?"
"Well no-"
"Exactly," Will said, "Now. Get. On. My. Shoulders,"
"Okay," Remus said. After quite a Hussle and a few 'Ow's'. Remus was on top of quite an unstable human tower and he was only a few feet away from the top of the gate, with a big jump, he was certain he could get across.
"Well Remus," Alex said, "I've only known you for a week, but I'll miss you-" Alex began but was cut off by a shriek scream,
"WHO MISPLACED MY DOUGHNUT?" A scream came from the Orphanage, Remus was certain it was Stinky Sally as lights were turned on in the orphanage and voices of confusion and panic were let out of the orphanage,
"Remus!" Alex said and Remus could somehow tell he was deathly pale, "You need to go!"
"Wait-"
"YOU NEED TO BLODDLY GO! MY SHOULDERS ARE HURTING!" Will yelled
"But, don't any of you guys want to go with me-"
"No!" Will snapped, "I've been here all my life, as much as I hate it here I can't imagine my life anywhere else, besides, they're gonna kick me out in a few years anyway!"
"Exactly what Will said!" Alex said, "Remus, you need to go!"
"But-"
Just then the backyard door open and Remus could tell that Alex was covered in guilt for not closing the door. Stinky Sally and Albert and a few orphans ran out of the door. Without hesitating, Remus somehow jumped over the gate and scratched his leg on the spike on top, drawing a long line of blood, Remus collapsed on the ground, his legs searing with pain and his head throbbing as he hit it on the ground. He somehow got up and began running,
"SOMEONE GET THAT BOY!" Albert demanded, "I NEED HIM FOR SOMETHING, HE CANNOT ESCAPE,"
Remus glanced back and saw some orphans running inside, some even tried to climb the gate. Albert was gripping Alex's arm and Stinky Sally was gripping Will's. Alex turned back at him and they locked eyes, Alex's hazel eyes told one message, Go and goodbye.
Remus ran and ran, not sure where to go. But, this was the second time he ran away and left someone else behind. But there was nothing he could do but run.
