Hinata looked out the window, continuing to wait for an elephant to come out. Kageyama sat there quietly, also watching out the window and occasionally looking at Hinata, who appeared to be extremely happy. He liked to see him like that. It made him feel good.
Suddenly he watched as Hinata's facial expression changed from being excited and happy to almost fearful.
"What's wrong?" Kageyama asked, worried about what could have caused the sudden change in his demeanor.
Hinata shook his head, trying to clear away whatever thoughts he had.
"Nothing... I just thought I smelled the scent of someone..." he said nervously.
"Who?" Kageyama asked and began to look around the restaurant for anyone who could even remotely be a threat to Hinata.
"It's fine. It was probably my imagination." Hinata tried to laugh it off as the waitress came back with their food.
Kageyama had a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach after that, forcing him to become hyper-aware of their surroundings.
"Really, it's okay, " Hinata said as he began to eat his tiger shaped bun.
Kageyama let out a sigh and started to eat his curry.
"Whos scent did you think you smelled?" He asked, still worried.
"My uncle, "
❤︎𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐩❤︎
Kageyama felt his whole body tense up, remembering the things that had happened to Hinata because of his uncle. He felt his body as it almost tingled with anger.
Hinata wrinkled his nose a bit at the scent of dominance and protective pheromones that Kageyama was unknowingly releasing.
Hinata was quiet for a moment as he looked around, scanning the area for anyone that could resemble his uncle. Letting out a sigh of relief, he scooted his plate across the table towards Kageyama, then stood up and moved his chair to be sitting next to Kageyama instead of across from him.
"I feel safer if I'm next to you, " he said quietly and went back to eating his tiger shaped bun.
Kageyama's scent went back to a more normal smell as he calmed down a little, feeling better now that Hinata was next to him.
They continued to eat their food in silence, Hinata continuously looking out the window, waiting for an elephant. Suddenly they heard a thudding sound and a trumpet-like noise as two Elephants came around the corner of their habitat and into Hinata and Kageyama's view.
Hinata watched in excitement as the sizeable gray creature made its way to the watering hole with a smaller version of itself trotting close behind.
"That's Tilda... She's cute, " he said with a small and excited laugh as he pointed to the baby elephant that curiously stuck its trunk into the water.
"You're cute too, " Kageyama said in an almost inaudible whisper, not catching the words as they left his mouth. A light tint ran across his face realizing he had just said that out loud and not in his head.
Hinata let out a small giggle as he leaned his head against Kageyama's shoulder. Kageyama remained silent, deciding he didn't want to ruin this moment.
They sat there and watched the mother and baby for a few more moments quietly until they disappeared onto the other side of the Habitat again.
"What animal do you want to see?" Hinata asked.
Kageyama shrugged.
"Doesn't really matter to me since animals don't tend to like me."
Hinata laughed.
"That's because sometimes you look scary."
"Shut up dumbass, " Kageyama said and ruffled Hinata's hair.
Hinata took the zoo's map and stared at it for a minute before pointing to an area that wasn't far from where they were.
"What about the polar bear tank?"
Kageyama nodded and stood up. Hinata stood next to him and held his hand, and the two of them headed out of the restaurant and to the polar bear habitat.
They followed the map until they came to an area where you could either see the top part of the enclosure that had plants and a cave for the bear to sleep in and the top of the pool for the bear to dive into. Or you could go down a ramp the led into an enclosed cave-like room that had a view of the inside of the diving pool where you could watch the polar bear swim.
Hinata tightened his hold on Kageyama's hand and led him down into the caved area. The reflection of the water bounced off the walls and shined Around them. Hinata let go of Kageyama's hand and walked closer to the glass of the tank. He pressed his hands against it and stared into the crystal clear blue water that seemed to engulf him.
Kageyama stood behind him and put his arms around Hinata's waist, pulling him against him and rested his head on top of his.
The pair stood in silence, waiting for the bear to dive into the water. They could hear footsteps of people and children running above their heads and echoing off the cave walls.
Suddenly there was a giant splash as the water they were staring into became a blur of white bubbles, with the bear's face emerging close to the glass.
Hinata jumped a bit from being startled.
"Are you alright?" Kageyama questioned and tightened his arms around Hinata.
Hinata silently nodded and went back to watching the bear swim around the tank.
Kageyama kissed the top of his head and buried his face into the messy jungle of orange hair, and allowed himself to enjoy this moment with his omega.
Suddenly he smelt the light scent of fear pheromones.
Hinata turned around and nuzzled his face into Kageyama's chest in an attempt to seek shelter from the invisible scent that was causing him to feel afraid.
"Is it possible for two alphas to have the same scent?" He asked quietly as he wrapped his arms around Kageyama as tight as he could,
Threatening to crush Kageyama's ribs in the process.
Kageyama rubbed Hinata's back to comfort him.
"No, they can have similar scents but never be the same. Do you want to call Coach Ukai? If they're still in Tokyo, they can drive us home."
Hinata looked up at Kageyama, who looked like he was silently planning his attack plan if anyone came near them. He shook his head.
"No, I want to stay... I think I just imagined it. Maybe it's coming from a different alpha with similar pheromones."
Kageyama sighed and sniffed the air attempting to see if he could smell the scent or pheromones that could be a threat. There was nothing obvious to him, though.
"Okay, " he said quietly.
"Can we go look at the tigers?" Hinata asked as he pulled himself away from Kageyama.
Kageyama nodded, and the pair headed out of caved area and back onto the walking path. They took the map out to see what way the tigers were. They located the tiger's Enclosure and started to make their way in that direction.
The walking path was lined with tall oak trees that offered shade from the sun. They passed the panda habitat, the monkeys, and the zebras. Hinata, who felt like he was on a mission to see the tigers, decided to see the other animals on their way back.
As they approached the Tiger habitat, Hinata noticed a stand selling stuffed Tigers, Lions, and Panthers.
He remembered their trip to the aquarium and how they had gotten Stingyama and Dumbass to help them remember their day.
He pulled Kageyama by the hand over to the stand.
"Can we get one?" Hinata asked as he picked up one of the stuffed cats.
"Do you really want to carry a it around the zoo? It seems like it'd be a pain, " Kageyama replied, catching the attention of the man who was tending the stand.
"If you buy two, I'll throw in a free backpack, " he said in a song-like tone. "That way, you want to have to carry them in your hands, "
Hinata's eyes lit up."
"Please, " he begged as he looked at Kageyama, giving him a mischievous and pout-like stare, one he knew he couldn't refuse.
"Fine, " Kageyama said with a sigh.
Hinata picked up a stuffed black panther while Kageyama picked a tiger.
Kageyama took his Wallet out and paid for the two stuffed animals, and the man handed him a backpack. He and Hinata stuffed the two cats inside and began to finish making their way to the Tigers.
They walked up to the Tiger enclosure and saw two giant cats basking in the sun.
"I wonder how Kenma is, " Hinata said mindlessly out loud, as the two tigers made him think of their Nekoma friends.
"I heard Daichi tell Suga that Kuroo wanted his help with something, " Kageyama replied a bit quietly as they watched the two cats in the enclosure get up and start to play fight.
They stayed and watched them for a few minutes before they decided to head back towards the way they had come.
As they walked down the path back towards the other animal's Habitats, Kageyama could tell that Hinata was getting tired, which was a side effect of the pills he had been on and probably still had some left in his body.
"Do you want to rest a minute?" Kageyama asked as they passed a bench.
Hinata shook his head and flashed Kageyama a smile.
"Nope!"
Kageyama smiled a bit, happy to see Hinata back to his more normal state.
"Tomorrow, you'll get to practice again, " he said, knowing how Hinata would be excited.
Hinata laughed excitedly and somewhat skipped.
"We can race to the gym, and I can beat you!"
Kageyama looked down and him with a smirk.
"Oh? And if I win?"
Instead of receiving an answer, though, Hinata stopped walking. His hand tightened around Kageyama's so right that it felt as if he would break his fingers if he made even the slightest wrong move.
"Sho?" Kageyama questioned as he saw Hinata's breathing become rapid and smelt the scent of fear pheromones as Hinata let out a small, fearful cry.
"Shōyō?"
The sound of the unknown male voice from behind them forced Kageyama to take his Attention off of Hinata and snap it back to see who was behind them.
"Help, "
Kageyama heard Hinata's small Plea as he crumbled to the ground, having a panic attack caused by the scent of anise and liquor that his uncle always smelt like.
Kageyama became a statue, unable to move from the anger he suddenly felt coursing through his veins. All the things that this man had done to his omega. He was the reason Hinata didn't trust him at First, the reason he didn't want to be marked, he was the reason Hinata had nightmares and would sometimes wake up shaking and in tears.
"Shōyō, I just want to talk, " the man said as he made the grave mistake of taking a step towards Hinata.
Kageyama let out a venomous snarl that the man didn't even seem to pay no mind to as he took another step.
"I'm going to kill you, " there was hatred that hinged on every syllable as Kageyama no longer had any control of his actions. His vision no longer saw anything other than this other alpha that posed a threat to his Omega.
A growl rumbled in his chest as he charged towards the man, tackling him to the ground and pinning him. He took his fist and punched him as hard as he could, not giving him time even to react. Kageyama punched him repeatedly, each hit more fierce than the last. He didn't stop until he felt someone pull him off by the shoulders. He could hear a voice that seemed familiar but couldn't make out any of the words they were saying.
In a fit of anger and rage and not knowing who or what he was even punching at anymore. He threw a punch at the person who had grabbed him and suddenly found himself being pinned on the ground on his stomach with whoever had pulled him off of Hinata's uncle sitting on him, holding his hands behind his back as he felt someone else stab something into his arm.
He regained some consciousness and could make out what appeared to be police officers and paramedics talking and rushing around the scene.
A familiar face came into view, followed by words that made Kageyama feel like he would crumble into a billion pieces.
"They are going to let me ride with shōyō in the ambulance. He isn't responding, and his blood pressure is extremely low" Kenma's voice and words shot through Kageyama like a bullet straight to the chest. His head spun for a moment as he tried to move his body which refused to respond to his commands.
"I'm going to get off of you and help you sit up, " Kageyama was able to make out the sound of kuroo's voice.
He felt the person's weight on top of him shift as they got off of him, then he felt a hand help pull him into a sitting position.
"Wh... Where... Shō...shōyō, " Kageyama glanced around; his eyes were unable to focus on anything at all. His body felt numb and heavy as he desperately tried to find any sign of Hinata.
His eyes finally focused on Kuroo, who was sitting in front of him with his hands firmly planted on his shoulders to keep him from tumbling to the ground.
Kageyama stared at him, trying to make sense of the situation he was in. As he stared at his face, he took notice of his black eye and swollen jawline.
"They had to tranquilize you, and they took Hinata to the hospital. I'll drive you there as soon as you can stand, " Kuroo said in a voice that seemed to be laced with concern even though he managed to stay calm. "You're lucky we were here, and Kenma could smell Hinata's fear pheromones, " he added as Kageyama slumped down, unable to keep the weight of his body up any longer.
Kuroo looked at him and the state he was in and decided that it might be best just to help him up and try to make him walk to his car instead of waiting.
He stood up and pulled Kageyama up. He placed an arm under his shoulder and held him up best he could.
"Try to move your feet, " he said as he began to walk with Kageyama dragging himself beside him trying to make his legs move in unison with Kuroo's, only to find he couldn't move them.
"Shōyō.." He mumbled over and over again as they made their way through the zoo and to the exit.
They made it to Kuroo's car, and Kuroo helped Kageyama get into the passenger seat. Kuroo got into the driver's side and started the engine.
"I'll call Daichi and Suga as soon as we get to the hospital, " he said as he pulled out of the parking lot.
Kageyama didn't respond; he couldn't. His chest ached, and his head felt numb. He managed to look down at his hands and focused on them. That was when he realized he was covered in blood: his knuckles, jeans, and shirt.
His stomach felt sick as pieces of his memory of the events came back to him. Then he felt a pain that he didn't know existed. The Omega mark on his neck began to burn, and a sharp pain ran down his neck.
Something in his gut was telling him that something horrible had happened to Hinata, and like a dam that had been holding back a raging river breaking, he clenched his chest and let out a painful sob as tears came crashing down his face.
This sudden outburst almost caused Kuroo to swerve off the road. He pulled off to the side and stopped the car.
He grabbed Kageyama's shoulder and shook him, trying to get him to come back to his senses.
"Hey, You have to calm down. He's going to be okay, " Kuroo said in a stern, understanding voice, trying to get Kageyama to calm down.
Kageyama took a breath, wrapped his arms around his shoulders, and managed to make himself calm down.
Kuroo started the car and continued to drive to the hospital.
