Forget me not
"I only sleep to dream of forever with you"
• Macaria •
I cannot believe this
"You are such an irresponsible, moronic... inept idiot!" Thanatos whisper shouted at Hypnos
"What else do you suggest? Should I have done nothing and let him run to Hades about you two?" He asked, carrying Moros' legs as Thanatos had him by the shoulders.
I was trailing behind them. Their incessant arguing drowning out as I overthought the entire situation
What were we to do now?
He will awake soon. And he cannot possibly tell my father
He just cannot.
"Can you both stop arguing... please?" I asked, making them both stop and look at me
"Fine" Hypnos said, dropping Moros' legs
"Hypnos!" Than said angrily
"What? We need to figure out what to do, and I tire of carrying him" he said.
Than sighed, before he heaved Moros up into his bed
Moros' room was... very unkept
Not surprising as he was the god of chaos
But the drawings, the mess... the blacked out windows... it was like he truly lived in the darkness.
It was darker in here than Thanatos' room
"Leave me to it dear brother" Thanatos commented
"What do you want me to do? I am the god of sleep, not the god of muscle" Hypnos rolled his eyes.
I wandered over to his desk, leaving the two brothers to argue as I mused over Moros' work
His drawings were very... dark
Very sad. I felt sorry for him, he did not know how to let the aggression out any other way it seems
"Princess"
"Princess?"
"Macaria" I finally zoned back in, turning to face the two as Hypnos said my name loudly
"Sorry" I said softly
"So, what do we do?" Hypnos asked
"I am not sure" I said honestly.
"He will wake up soon, we need to do something" Than spoke up
"Let us throw him in Tartarus for a while, it is not like anyone will miss him" Hypnos mumbled, crossing his arms and leaning back on the cabinet.
"Can we have reasonable ideas please?" Thanatos grumbled, before he looked to me
"I... I do not know, maybe we can just try and tell him he hit his head or something" I said
"And the romantic fondle he found you two in?" Hypnos asked
"I..." I didn't know what to do.
He was going to remember
He was going to tell my father and I would be ripped away from Thanatos.
"Lethe" Than said after a moment
Hypnos looked up from the ground, a grin breaking out onto his face
"Lethe, why did we not think of that before!" He exclaimed cheerfully
"We cannot dip him in the river" I said shocked.
"We do not have to, he could drink some?" Hypnos suggested
"We cannot drug a fellow god" I said mortified
The river Lethe was risky. You had to make sure you gave the person the right amount, or they could forget a lot more than you planned them to.
"It is not drugging, it is helping. We are helping our dear brother here to forget something traumatic" Hypnos said, a sad expression present, yet it looked staged
I gave him a look
A look that told him I really was not in support of this idea.
"Oh come on Caria, do you want Hades to find out you have been romancing with death?" He asked
I looked at Than, who just looked down nervously
"I feel deceitful doing this" I said simply.
"But it needs to be done" Than said
"You agree with him?" I asked
"What else can we do? He cannot tell your father, he cannot remember" he said with a fire in his eyes
A fire of... love.
I thought for a moment, just... staring into his eyes before I nodded
"Okay" I said breathlessly
They were right. It needed to be done
No matter how wrong it was. Gods forgive me
Hypnos nodded.
"I will go get some" he said, pushing himself off the cabinet and striding out of Moros' room
Leaving me and Than in silence
I sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed
"Should we... should we stop?" I asked
"What?" He said immediately, sitting beside me.
"We are lying Than, we are going behind peoples' backs and now we..." I faltered in my sentence, glancing behind us at Moros
"And now we are hurting people" I said
I felt his hand take mine, brining my gaze back to him.
"I know this was not... ideal, and I do not want to hurt anyone because of our feelings, but I also know I cannot ignore them. I cannot go back to the way it was before Macaria, I will not" he said, with so much pain and determination in his voice.
"Than-"
"I mean it Macaria, I would throw him into the river if I had to. I would do absolutely anything as long as I keep you. The day I do not have your love is the day death itself will die and wither. I cannot exist without you now princess" he said
"Really?" I asked, taken aback by his words.
"Of course, you are my reason for living, even if I have to face your father's temper" he chuckled slightly
I smiled softly at him
"Thanatos... did you just say something amusing?" I asked with a smirk
"I suppose I did" he said, thinking to himself.
He had become a lot more lighthearted since our relationship began
"I love you" I grinned
"I love you" he said blankly, the way he does when he speaks to everyone
But I could see through the cracks, through the ghost of a smile and the shine in his dark eyes.
He leaned in, grasping my chin and planting a small sweet kiss against my lips.
• Thanatos •
She tasted like heaven. Pure euphoric heaven
Every single kiss was like salvation for my soul
She was my angel. Damned to the depths of hell.
"Got it- oh, I did not mean to interrupt" Hypnos smirked, swinging a bottle of water around as he barrelled through the door
I pulled away from Macaria, trying my best to refrain from glaring at my brother... but it did not work.
I could not help the icy look he received from me
Now that I had Macaria in my life the way I needed her... I found myself getting even more agitated with everyone else around me
I constantly found myself comparing people to her
And then dismissing them in my mind because they could not possibly live up to her standard.
She should be on a pedestal. She should be in galleries and books, there should be a thousand poems wrote about her, she was the most beautiful, smart and ethereal being I had ever come across.
"Should we wake him?" She asked, glancing at his sleeping figure, a glance I wanted to firmly place back on myself.
"Sure, pour this would you princess?" Hypnos asked, only angering me further
I had never been a violent person. Sure I had darker thoughts than most... but the very thought of that name leaving his lips and not mine broke me.
She was a goddess to be loved and seen by all
And yet I wanted to lock her away and keep her for myself.
She moved across the room, pouring the water into a glass as Hypnos sat beside Moros, reaching out and touching his head
Moros jolted into a sitting position, eyes wide as they flickered around the room
Before they settled on me, narrowing into bitter slits.
"Why are you all in my room? How did I get here?" He asked
"Are you okay?" Macaria asked softly, gaining his attention
He was silent for a moment
"How did I get here? We were by the blossoms... and you were..." his face dropped even more.
Before his expression turned to a scowl
"You two were close... too close" he said, indicating he knew.
"Here, drink this" Macaria said, sitting beside Hypnos next to Moros
"How did I get here?" He asked, more frustrated than before.
Macaria hesitated for a moment, before she sighed, resting the glass on her lap as she spoke
"You hit your head, pretty hard I might add, so please, take it easy and drink this, we can explain everything but your health is what matters most to me Moros" she said, holding the glass out again.
I could see it in her eyes. The pain. The strain of having to lie and make him forget.
His breathing had finally calmed, and he slowly took the glass from her hands, before taking a sip
"Drink all of it, you have been out for a while" Hypnos said, he did as he was told.
Until the glass was eventually empty, and he quickly slumped back down onto the bed
A few tiny drops of water spilled across Macaria's dress
"I will get a cloth, do not touch it" I said simply, getting up.
"I feel so awful" I heard her say
"You must not feel guilty, I made sure it was the right amount, it will be like today never happened, I will keep an eye on him" Hypnos assured her
He better, we did not need him waking up and remembering
Or waking up and forgetting too much.
"Here" I said, handing the cloth to her, our hands briefly grazing, sending a warmth through my skin
"Thank you" she smiled, both of us just... staring at each other
"Well... good job guys" Hypnos spoke up, breaking our moment.
"We should do this again sometime, maybe knock Noe out" he chuckled, receiving a subtle look from Macaria.
