"i'm going for a walk again!," i slid my coat on and yelled at the front door.
"what time will you come home this time?," my aunt
asked me with a worried expression.
"depends.. i'm going now!," i said excitedly while walking out and shoved my hands in my pockets. the cold breeze hit my skin immediately and made me shiver all throughout my body. it was about 8 pm and i usually took my walks earlier but i had homework to do since i was asleep in class.. again. i walked along the side of the road and made my way towards the park where i would usually hang out at.
a couple of minutes pass and i finally arrived at my destination. the night sky was shining onto the metal bars of the benches that stood along the pavement of the playground. i walked over to the swings and sat in one of them. i swayed myself just a tad bit because of the wind being so cold. i looked up at the beautiful night sky and began being lost in my thoughts again.
once i snapped back to reality, i realized i have been here for just a few minutes. i would love to stay longer but the cold air kept gusting towards me and making me shiver. i got up from the swing and walked towards my way home. i took a few steps but suddenly heard something screech. i turned my head and saw the swing that i was sitting on swinging back and forth. i looked at it confused and surprised and decided to go back towards it.
as i kept getting closer, the swing were getting more powerful and forceful. this could just be the wind.. right? i thought to myself. i slowly took my hands out of my pockets and reached for the swing. once it met my hand, i gripped it and it felt like nothing was wrong. i let go of it and let it swing back. after it stopped swaying, i was even more confused.
i stepped off of the playground and heard the same screech again. i turned my head and this time saw nothing happening. i got a bit scared so i kept walking towards home. on the way, the same exact noises were banging in my ears. i tried covering them but still heard it.
i got to my street and i'm guessing it's now after midnight because there were no lights on in anyone's homes. i walked along the sidewalk and saw something in the distance. i stopped walking and looked carefully but couldn't manage to adjust my eye sight. suddenly, the lamp post i was under started to flicker and my gaze went up to it. i looked at it for a second then stared back at the figure only to find it not there. i started to get creeped out so i walked even faster this time.
i stepped onto my driveway and looked around if anyone was following me. no one. i made my way to unlock the front door but realized i forgot my key.
"shit. i can't wake them up now," i sat on the stairs of the porch and decided to just stay up until morning.
i looked up at the starry sky and thought about the events that had happened tonight. instantly, i snapped back my gaze and heard that same screech. i got tired of it so i decided to check it out. once i finally stood my ground, the screech felt like it was coming from behind the house. i walked over to the side and started heading towards the forest behind the house. i made my way to the entrance of the forest and there was a path i never noticed before. i decided to follow it and once i step onto the path, that same screech yelled in my ears. i covered them immediately from being so loud and crouched down. once the screeching stopped, i felt relieved and was deciding if i should still go or not.
i decided not to go since that screeching kinda hurted my ears so i made my way back to the front porch. once i turned around, i felt a rough hand grab the nape of my neck. i stood there in shock and fear while slowly trying to get out of its grip. the moment i realized it was no use, i stopped trying but suddenly got dragged into the forest with leaves flying back and forth at my face. i got scrapes and cuts from the dragging. my legs were flying like the wind. my arms were still trying to get out of its grip. the chance to slide my fingers underneath its rough skin came. i took the chance and the grip loosened but i realized if it did let go, i would fall and the ground looked too far down. once i came to the realization, i dropped. my body felt limp and couldn't move. the last thing i saw was it looking at me fall.
i breathed in and out and smelt fresh scent of forest green. i opened my eyes to see orange trees surrounding me and crows screeching. i flinched at the screeches they made and realized what had happened. i fell. it dropped me. i rubbed my head with my hand from the headache i had then i felt dried up blood on the side of my head. i stood up and saw that i fell on a pile of leaves. good thing these leaves were here. i looked around to see if i was familiar with my surroundings. nothing. i started to walk a direction but doubted myself so went the other way instead.
hours passed by and i felt dizzy so i took a small break by sitting down on a log. am i really lost? what was that thing? what am i going to do now? i pushed these thoughts of mine to the side and worried about which way i'm going to go next. i stood up again and decided to go a way which i didn't know was east. when i took a step forward, i suddenly felt dizzy and sleepy then my body collapsed on the ground.
my eyes flickered open again but this time seeing the night sky with the moonlight shimmering down. i got up and brushed off the leaves and dirt off my body and kept walking the way i said i was. i couldn't see that well since everything is kinda spinning for me so i walked a slower pace than usual. i heard a nearby stream and decided to walk up to it.
once i got there, i kneeled to the floor and took of my jacket also ripping a part of my shirt so i could clean my wound. once i finally ripped it, i soaked it and patted it on my head trying to clean it. i suddenly heard the same screeching and branches cracking behind me and i didn't take a chance to look but to run. i ran as fast as my legs could go and my ears perked up when i heard people nearby. people. never thought i would say this but i'm glad to hear people.
my instincts went in and my legs ran straight towards the group of people. i soon saw the people ahead and counted a total of four humans. my running made all their heads turn my way while one of them stood a bit further from them. him being the closest in my direction, i couldn't help but to hug him. i saw his eyes form in a way of shock as i slid my arms around his torso and gripped the back of his jacket. i felt him slowly move so i loosened my grip and faced him.
"help me" was all i said while tears streamed down my face. i buried my face back into his chest and my arms shivering from the coldness, i felt warm arms surround my body and held me tight.
"megumi! are you okay?," another person came up to us and asked him.
"let's make a fire place for warmth," a woman's voice said as it got faint.
a few moments later, i was still hugging the man and apparently it felt like he didn't mind. i sighed and felt warm air beside me and saw light slowly forming. i finally took my gaze and stared at the figure i was holding. the first thing i noticed was his eyes. how those eyelashes swayed as he blinked back and forth. how deep the color blue was as it shined under the moonlight. he finally looked at me but stayed silent for a few seconds.
"are you okay now?," he asked me while slowly letting go of my body. i didn't say anything back. i just let go of his torso and made my way to the well lit fire that was flying ashes into the starry sky.
"y/n-," the guy with the pink hair was stopped by the person you were hugging not moments earlier.
"give her time," was all he said then went back to a blank face.
"i'm fine actually.. ," i stood up from the fire and sat down next to the person who didn't finish talking.
"i'm y/n," i smiled while wanting to greet this guy.
"i'm yuuji!," he took my hand a bit too hard and i flinched when he touched me. he didn't let go until a couple of seconds later. "and that's nobara, junpei, and megumi!," he pointed each one out and it hit me. they were all from the same class i was in.
"you're all in my class.. what are you doing out here?," i asked, looking confused.
"we were all trying to find you," the guy who was named junpei, spoke.
i didn't say anything but looked at the fire. i crossed my arms from the cold and started to shiver again.
"apparently you went missing last night.. were you not? here.. ," megumi slid his jacket around me and i stared at him. his eyes went onto mine and he noticed something. "your head is bleeding," his fingers grazed the wound and he turned to a backpack nearby.
"i don't know.. i did get lost for sure," i held back the thought of the screeching noises and it. i was scared how they would react and not believe me.
"let me clean it," megumi came up to me and set a wet cloth on my face. "it going to sting so bare it," he scrunched his eyebrows together and spilled some, what i would assume is alcohol, onto the cloth. he set it on my wound and i flinched at his actions.
"thank you.. ," i quietly said to him.
"hey, since you're not missing anymore we could try to find out way out of here and turn you to the police for questions. that way you can go home-," i stopped nobara from saying anything more.
"no! i-i mean.. no please. i don't want to go h-home," i remembered the events that had happened last night and was terrified at the realization. "also! no police.. i-i.. i didn't tell you guys one part," i exhaled and finally decided to tell them what actually happened.
"something.. something was following me home. i think.. i kept hearing this screeching noise go through my ears and it hurts! so bad. i heard it again.. at my house.. it dragged me into the forest," i squeezed my hands so hard that my nails dug into my palm. i realized i was squeezing too hard to i released my grip and looked at them. i stared back at the group and everyone looked at me confused. "..it's fine if you don't believe me," i gazed back down onto my lap.
