I sat on the couch in my room. The couch was right in front of my window, with my legs spread out in front of me. I bobbed my head slightly as one of my favorite songs blasted through my headphones. I had my notebook in front of me sketching the oak tree outside my window with its twisted trunks and falling leaves, in the background I attempted to straighten the lines and grooves of the window right across from mine.

I lifted up my notebook in front of my window for a better comparison but was met with a new figure standing in the window. Putting my notebook down I smiled keeping my eyes fixed on the new but familiar view.

There he was. Louis Tomlinson. He stood there shirtless in his room with his head down and his bottom lip between his fingers. He was on the phone holding the device up to his ear with his other hand, he had a frustrated look on his face and kept pacing back and forth in front of the window.

Louis threw his phone on the bed forcefully and sat down with his head in his hands. I saw his chest rise dramatically as he tried to rub the frustration off of his face.

I sat up my knees to get a better view of his body language. What's up with him? Although impatient, Louis was rarely angry. He was known for being nothing but bright and happy- just like the sun my mom describes him. If I had to think of one thing that would upset Louis like this it would probably be his girlfriend, Lily Delfin.

Louis stood up and looked my way. He froze as we made direct eye contact. I jumped getting caught snooping and covered my face with my notebook sinking into the couch. This wasn't the first time he's caught me snooping into his room but he never closes his blinds and it's not like I'm trying to look into his room, I'm just looking out of my window. Nevertheless it was embarrassing. I huffed lowering the notebook and looking back out my window. Louis's arms were crossed over his chest and a big grin on his face. The sight made me blush.

I life both my arms up in a shrugging manner "Oops" I mouthed.

Louis opened his window and I reached over the couch to open mine. He poked his head out and made a funny face.

"Hey weirdo! Aren't you supposed to be getting ready for school?" He asked.

He kept his large grin while shaking his head a little. I couldn't help but smile back at him. Louis never made be feel embarrassed about anything, he knew me more than I knew myself and the things I did never shocked or wierded him out- if anything he welcomed and embraced all of it.

"Yeah!" I yelled so he would hear me. Our houses were pretty far apart, but close enough for us to talk.

"Well then stop the stalking and hurry up. I'll be at your place in ten!"

"I wasn't stalking you I was looking out my window and you interrupted the view." He rolled his eyes clearly not believing me. "Yeah, yeah." He closed his window and I did the same.

Louis Tomlinson has been my best friend since he was born or since I was born I guess. He was born December twenty fourth and I was born three days later on the twenty seventh.

It's funny because my mom and Aunt Johanna, Louis's mom, planned everything out for us. Once they found out they were pregnant at the same time they said we were one hundred percent destined to carry on their bff legacy. The moms met when they were both in 6th grade and have literally been inseparable since. They even took it as far as moving in next door to each other, going on family vacations, spending holidays together and we have dinner together almost everyday either at their house or ours, leaving Louis and I attached to the hip just as they are.

I put on my green converse and a silver tiara on my head. Since last night I've been debating whether or not pairing it with a boa would be too much but it's only going to be today once and I can be whatever I want to be today.

Our first day of high school was a bit nerve racking considering that it was a whole new environment and our middle school teachers made it seem like such a war zone. Before eighth grade was even over I spent a good amount of time losing sleep and overthinking about the new fears and stresses this new school was going to bring. My friend group was big and they all seemed prepared and excited to start high school, it almost felt like they knew that because we were all so popular we would most likely be untouchable in high school. As much as I wanted to believe that it was hard for me to feel like popularity would last me forever. Being part of that group was already surprising enough for me and it felt like a job every day trying to fit in with them everyday, I couldn't see myself surviving it for another four years. Eventually I decided to let go of any standards or expectations and be free to do whatever it is that comes to mind every day. I didn't need to be popular to be happy and if those friends didn't like it then so be it. Today, an outcast that wears tiaras was what I felt in my bones on this beautiful September day so that is what I was going to be, who cares what anyone else thinks. My mom says its a phase I'm going through and I don't disagree with her completely, I've been through a few.

A few days ago I walked past a shop that had a really pretty tiara in the window. My first instinct was to buy it but Mom pointed out that I would rarely find an occasion to wear it on. I almost put the tiara back but then I thought to myself; why need an occasion to wear what I want?

I slung my bookbag over my shoulder and headed down the stairs.

"Good morning, Charlie girl." My mom greeted from the kitchen. She looked up at me and stopped what she was doing with her eyebrows raised. "What a fun erm...costume."

"It's just an outfit." I shrug. She makes an 'o' shape with her mouth and looks back down to finish slicing her fruit.

My mom was a pretty woman. She was tallish with bright hazel eyes and the most gorgeous smile. Her hair was long and black. She had a pretty good figure for her age, and soft tan skin. We've always been very close but I know sometimes she doesn't understand where I got my "creativity" from. Thinking back to the stories aunt Jo has told me about mom she was a pretty typical popular girl that dated and married her athlete high school sweetheart.

People say she looks exactly like me, but Louis thinks I look more like my dad. I don't see either.

My dad serves in the army, so we rarely see him. He usually sees us about every six to eight months but so far he's canceled on us four times because one of his friends getting really hurt or because it's dangerous so mom and I haven't seen him for about 16 months. Thats almost two years! We still Skype on occasions, maybe once a week or two near the holidays. But that's basically it. My moms pretty depressed about it, she has her moments, but she handles it. Sometimes.

"What's for breakfast?" I ask still watching her cut fruit.

"I made bacon, eggs and pancakes." She said when I walked in. I sat on my spot at the table. I liked it because I got to see the view out the kitchen window. It isn't much, just another window which is Aunt Johanna's living room. My mom says I like the seat because I get to spy on Louis but I didn't, it was mostly because there's this really pretty tree next to it. The trunk is all twisted and so are the branches.

"Is Louis coming over this morning?"

I nodded and peered out the window and almost on cue Louis was walking into in his living room kissing his mom goodbye.

"As always, mom." I said swiveling in my chair.

Just then the backdoor opened and in came Louis, this time he is wearing a weird hat. It was a greet baseball cap with feathers taped onto the side of it, like the Peter Pan hat.

"Good morning!" He chirped throwing his book bag down next to me.

"Hi."

"Good morning sweet boy." My mom answers placing two plates of breakfast in front of us.

Louis sat down in the seat across from me and smiled his usual smile. He wiggled is eyebrows waiting for me to ask the obvious question.

"What's with the hat?" I caved in.

"What's with the tiara." He smiles at me while squinting his eyes playfully. I couldn't help but stifle a laugh.

I shrugged. "I told you, it's different and I like it."

"Well, I like my hat."

I smiled and nodded. Louis never let me do anything alone, ever since we were little he would stick right beside me and try all the new things I wanted to do with me. To most it could seem annoying but this was just how we were. He knew I hated feeling alone and therefore I never needed to. If I fell he'd fall right there next to me.

"You look like Peter Pan." I ruffled the feathers slightly.

"That would make you Wendy then? My right hand girl." He sat up straight giving me a thumbs up and a silly face. I gave him a nod and pinched his cheeks.

We all ate while having small talk with my mom and left to walk to the bus stop. It was only about two blocks away from our homes and I liked to kick ricks along the way. When we reached Louis leaned against a stop sign while we waited.

"So, what happed this morning? You looked mad." I twirled the boa between my fingers.

Lou frowned and looked down his converse, which matched mine but in all black.

"Lily and I broke up."

My eyes widened but it wasn't shocking news, they've been on and off again all throughout 8th grade. He's said before that he loved her but a few weeks later he admitted to me that he didn't really know what love meant, it seemed complicated.

"Sorry."

"It's alright."

"Looking forward to highschool?" He changed the subject.

"Nope."
"Me neither."

A few minutes passed and two more kids waited with us. A guy with black short hair, my friend Mariana and Lily. Mariana came up to talk to Louis and I while the boy sat down on the curve, Lily stood by herself next to a tree frowning.

Lily was really pretty. She was Cuban, with hair that almost looked blonde, but wasn't. She had brown eyes, rosy cheeks, and a slim body. She looked sad today, compared to her usual confident self. When she looked up she caught me staring so I smiled lightly at her but she glared at me.

Yikes. Probably wasn't the right time, Charlie.

The bus came and we all piled in. I took my spot next to Louis in the back.

"I still can't believe we don't have classes together." He pouted putting his book bag on his lap.

I laughed. "I know. Our middle school teachers probably warned them." I say making him chuckle. "We weren't that bad were we?" He questions.

We looked at each other in silence for a split second before erupting into stupid giggles.

"Yeah, we gave them hell." Louis shakes his head and looks out the window with the school coming into view.

Haven High. It was big, I already knew I was going to get lost in here a few times today. Various kids from my middle school and other middle schools that I've never met were laughing and walking tohether as they walked through the doors.

Lou and I left the bus and walked quietly toward the school taking in the new place we'd be spending the next four years in. Slowly we went inside to the chaotic halls and managed to find my locker first.

" I have geometry." I stated looking down at my schedule.
"I have living environments in room...306." he sighed looking around at all the classrooms that started with a 1 instead of a 3. "I have to go upstairs, are you good finding your class?" He asks looking down at the schedule in my hands.

"Yup, I think geometry is on this floor so I'll be fine." I nod as I open my locker.

"Right, well then text me if you need anything." He starts to turn away.

"Wait! Save me a seat at lunch?" I pout grabbing his wrist.

"Yeah, course." He reaches down to adjust the tiara on my head with one hand and fluffing my boa with the other. He takes a step back to look at me and leans over to take a slight bow. "Your Highness." He says before turning around and walking into the direction of his class, the feathers on his DIY Peter Pan hat proudly moving with him.

I look down at my locker trying to hide the smile that was so clearly plastered on my face.

"That's Wendy to you." I mutter.
