*Chapter 1*
Sophia's POV
The last day of summer is always the day me and my best friend spend together. Whether it is at the mall or having a movie day at the pack house. Yes I said pack house meaning me and my best friend are werewolves. We live in Bristol, Va. But today was different Jason my best friend called me and asked if I could meet him at the park. He showed up about five minutes after I did with a grim look upon his face.
As soon as he reached me he grabbed my hand and led me to the tree we used to climb as kids while our mothers would joke about us being mates. But today I could tell that he had something to say that would change our lives, even though tomorrow is his birthday and he would officially find his mate and maybe finally get rid of his girl friend for the past two years, Stacy. Not that I don’t like her, but there was something lately that made me really angry when I seen them together. Pulling me out of my thoughts Jason began to speak.
"Sophia..." he states "I have to tell you something."
Nervously, I ask “What is it? You can tell me anything."
"Stacy.....called today..." he sighs depressingly "and said she was.....pregnant", he states with eyes full of unshed tears.
With his words I could feel my self getting angry just like the past couple of day when I would see them together. I regain my calm voice enough to ask, "What are you going to do if she is not your mate?"
Jason sits there for moment thinking, "I don’t know", he finally answers, as I see a single tear fall from his ocean blue eyes, which he tries to wipe away before I can see.
A future Alpha is not supposed to show weakness but I can tell losing his mate will weaken him. His true mate is the only one that will be able to help him lead the pack. That is why fate and Moon Goddess chose them.
"Well what ever you decide to do please promise me you will not reject your mate." I state as evenly as I can with my anger raging inside me.
"What if she doesn’t want me when she finds out?” He asks.
"Just explain how you felt about Stacy and make sure she understands that you will be faithful to her from now on. She will help you get through this. She will love you no matter what." I tell him.
He sighs before saying "I will think about it. Also I promise, I will think about not rejecting her."
We sat there under our tree for most of the afternoon. We talked about many different things from what we were going to wear the next day to our pasts and how our lives have changed. I’m not the real popular type but I’m not one of the Goths either. But, Jason he is a total jock. He plays football and basketball. He has all the girls eating out of the palm of his hand.
He got a phone call from his mom saying she needed him at home, so we decided that it was time for us to go our separate ways and meet at school tomorrow. When I got home all that ran through my mind was how could I get so angry at what Jason said today about Stacy? I just put it off as being an over protective best friend.

Jason's POV
Sitting there and not doing anything but talking with Sophia just made everything seems so much better. She makes me forget anything and everything. She just makes me love her more and more. I never told her how I felt because I knew that I will find my mate one day and I would never want to hurt her. Even today when I told her about Stacy I could see the rage in her eyes. I have always been able to see the feelings in her eyes.
After my talk with Sophia today I felt surer that my mate will still love me with my decision about Stacy. I don't want to hurt my mate and I may have promised Sophia that I would think about not rejecting my mate, but since the moment Stacy told me and the more I think about it the more I think rejection is my answer. So I've decided that no matter what I'm rejecting my mate tomorrow and at my party tomorrow night I will announce Stacy is my mate so I can be in my child's life. But deep inside me I feel like after this Sophia will never want to speak to me again.
When I got home my father called me to his office to talk. My father Alexander Garcia, never one for the nice pleasantries, got straight to the point.
“Son tomorrow you will most likely find your mate and that’s the first step into you taking over as alpha. I know that you’re still young and want to have fun but these are pressing times and you’re needed as alpha sooner than later. The rogues seem to be getting closer to our lands. Lately there have been a few kidnappings but we are still unsure if it’s the rogues or the hunters.”
“I understand Dad. Tomorrow I will be home with a mate and we will make this pack stronger to ensure the safety of our pack.”
“Also I wanted to inform you that we will be setting up a meeting with the Autumn Moon pack to set up an alliance with them in case to rogues decide to attack. And I want you to be present at the meetings.”
“Yes, Father.” I say.
“Also we are going to be celebrating the future alliance as well as yours and Toni’s birthday tomorrow night.” He then gives me permission to leave his office so I head off to my room.
After getting home and meeting with my father about meeting my mate and the alliance I decided to go and get ready for bed. I decided to call Stacy after I got out of the shower.
"Hey baby", she answers after the second ring.
“Hey Stacy, I've decided to reject my mate tomorrow and help you raise the baby...but if we are going to do this I need to know that you won't run off so, at the party for the future alliance between our pack and the Autumn Moon Pack and to celebrate mine and Alpha Antonio's birthday's tomorrow night, I will also mark you after the baby is born."
"Ok, Jason..." she says after a few moments.
"But, Stacy.....I, Jason Grey, future Alpha of the White Star Pack order you to reject your mate when you find him." I say letting as much of my alpha tone as I can muster into my voice. “I’m sorry Stacy but I can’t risk you leaving the pack with out a Luna.”
"Yes, Jason" she says sounding as if she were going to cry just thinking about leaving her mate. After we hung up I went to sleep only to dream about the way Sophia looked at me when I told her Stacy was pregnant. Her beautiful brown eyes the way that she can give me one look and it is as if she can see directly into my soul.
‘I’m sorry Sophia’ was my last conscious thought before the dreams took over.
Antonio’s POV
(earlier that day)
Stepping outside of the bus station looking around to the familiar sight of being home. I spent my whole summer traveling to different pack for my dad setting up alliances around the state. Some packs were not interested and other were overjoyed. Yes they had cute girls but I always had my mind on one girl since I was away and she has the most mesmerizing eyes that anyone has ever seen.
I stood there waiting for about ten minutes before my future Beta Marcus showed up. He walked up to me and helped put my bags in his car before he got in and started the car.
“So how was it?” He asked as he backed out.
“It was ok. I managed to at least try and get most of them to think about an alliance. While the others completely agreed without a thought.”
“Well at least we have those and they know that you’re the future Alpha and that your trying to be a great one even before you take over. But, enough about business how were the girls?”
“They were ok.” I say not giving away too much detail.
“Oh men please don’t tell me you passed the girls up because you still have a crush on her.”
“No I didn’t they just were all they same. You know great body little brain. How am I supposed to get over her when all the other girls are nothing like her they could never measure up to how great she is.”
“Dude I can’t wait till you meet your mate then you could finally get over her. Even though you never really had the balls to tell her. When you meet your mate you’ll be like S-“ I tuned him out because as he drove I saw her. Just sitting there laughing and talking with her best friend. I can see how he looks at her. He likes her even if he doesn’t know it yet.
“Hey! Are you listening to me.” Marcus says dragging me away from m thoughts.
“Huh? Oh yes I’m listening.” I say. But by the look in his eye I can tell he doesn’t believe me. He looks in the rearview mirror and sighs.
“One day. Hopefully that day is tomorrow. I don’t know how much longer I can handle you losing focus each time you see her or when someone brings her up.”
After that we began to catch up on everything that has been going on everything that has been going on since I left. Mostly nothing much has been going on besides the White Star pack trying to set up a meeting but didn’t want to meet until I got back from visiting the other packs
We arrived at the Pack house about thirty minutes after he picked me up from the bus station. I walked inside and looked around the living room has been changed around since the last time I was here seems like mom has felt the need for a change since I have been gone. There are now cream couches spread around the huge room, Family portraits that were taken just before I left hanging above the fire place and resting on the mantle, .as I was admiring the room I heard my mother in the kitchen cooking.
I walked quietly into the kitchen intending to surprise her. When I got five feet behind her I heard her speak.
“If you really want your welcome home cookies burnt I suggest you don’t do it.” She said in her motherly tone but I could tell she was smiling.
“How did you know?”
“I’m a mother I know everything.” She said while pulling the cookies from the oven.
“Well now that I’m back and the cookies aren’t burnt can I have one?” I ask eyeing my favorite homemade sugar cookies.
“Not now they are still hot and you will ruin your appetite before dinner.”
“Syrena love he just got back I think he can have one cookie after all he has been gone for the past two and a half months without your home cooking or baking. How is he supposed to survive.” My dad said chuckling.
“I guess you can have one but no more. And you Nathaniel I believe he will survive just like he will survive when he finds his mate and she will be the one cooking these meals.”
We sat around and joked the rest of the day until I decided to go to bed if I was going to get any sleep for school tomorrow.
