Tobias James 'Toby' Smith or by his adoptive name, Tobias James 'Toby' Soot, later Tobias James 'Toby' Baynton-Willbond is one of the Chinese Zodiac Heroes and one of the secondary school students. He is the protagonist of the series.

Official Description
Tobias James Smith, or by his adoptive name, Tobias Hanes Soot, later Tobias James Baynton-Willbond is an 18-year-old British secondary school student. He suffers from cystic fibrosis, hemiplegic cluster headaches and has dyslexia. With the help of his amulet, he can have powers based on his Zodiac sign, the Year of the Goat and can transform into a spirit. Not only that, he can access all powers and is the 2nd leader.
Appearance
Toby is a teenage boy with long brown hair with long bangs swept to the right (his left), blue eyes and pale skin with rosy cheeks. His casual wear consists of a dark green button-up shirt, blue jeans/trousers and black sneakers/trainers. His new outfit for Volume 7 consists of a red and black unbuttoned flannel over a black shirt, blue jeans and white shoes. Like other CF patients, he brings an oxygen tank and nasal cannulas along the way. He has fingerless gloves which contain metal strips and a metal wire used for metal-based powers as well as crystals for crystal-based powers. As well as his belt which contains his spare metal strips and crystals. His sleepwear consists of a black shirt and blue sweatpants. His student uniform consists of a navy blue blazer over a white dress shirt with a red necktie, warm grey pants, white socks and black shoes. While he was paralysed, he wears a dark green t-shirt and his usual jeans/trousers and shoes and instead of his nasal cannula, he wears a nasal BiPAP mask. His Chinese New Year outfit consists of a red traditional changshan, black trousers and his everyday shoes. He stands at 5 ft. 5 and is of average weight. In his spiritual state, his eyes glow white. His spirit form is a red Asian dragon with access to all powers.
History
Early Life
Toby was born on the 23rd of December 2003 in the UK. He was born with cystic fibrosis caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and dyslexia. Due to his medical conditions and dyslexia, he was told that his biological parents neglected him and he lived in an orphanage when he was 13. However, it turned out to be a lie because his parents really died in a plane crash on the way to Thailand and his legal guardian was supposed to be Mat. At the same time, he and Tommy discovered their spiritual potential. When he was 16, he, along with his best friend, Tommy, was adopted by a young adult man named Wilbur.
Volume 5, 6 (Zach's era, pre-storm era)
When he joined the Zodiac heroes to replace Louis, he immediately became the 2nd leader after having the ability to use all powers. He became the 2nd British to do so after Brad and is the shortest leader. In Season 3, he was kidnapped and sent to Pandora's Vault in Norwich by Jschlatt. Later in Season 4, he got executed but was saved by the Zodiac heroes. Especially Alex since he removed Lunatite from his system with the help of Metal powers. In Season 5, he had hit his lowest point. He was paralysed and on a ventilator as well as suffering from nightmares due to PTSD. He had to go through physiotherapy as well. During that time, he also cut himself but after his recovery, he wrapped the cuts in bandages, a fashion style the rest of his team would wear later.
When his teammates were doing the Hog Hunt, they needed to walk from Yuansu Park to the final control room. However, halfway there, he collapsed and complained that he couldn't walk. This means that after being poisoned by the Lunatite and recovering, he isn't able to walk long distances. The damage from Season 4 affected various Psychic-based powers. Like memory projection where he attempted to project his memory but he eventually managed to overcome his PTSD and can use Psychic-based powers again. He then leads his team to hunt down Dream.
A few months later, Chase and Medusa were released from prison and he and his team were sent to Australia. There, they reunited with the original heroes, Calum, Luke, Wendy and Michael and eventually, Troye, Michael and Crystal before going to the Philippines. It is revealed that he is a huge fan of the original Zodiac heroes' adventures.
In the Philippines, the team met Delilah, a businesswoman responsible for Zodiac technology and Zach and Nick's cousin. Later, they went to Bataan to explore Zach's previous life as a World War 2 soldier meeting a Japanese Guardian named Taka. Then, the team went to Singapore and reunited with Jackie Chan, who they haven't seen in 2 years. Later, the team went to Kanchanaburi, Thailand to explore Tubbo's past meeting his previous life's father, Mat and his uncle, Larry who were both soldiers. Mat later adopted him along with Tommy and Mei. Later, the team, alongside their new recruit, Mei, went to Ratchaburi and recruited Louis. When the team reached Hong Kong, they met 2 Guardians from the Victorian and Edwardian era, Martha and Alice and a new Hybrid hero, Tina.
After a 12-hour-long flight, the team reached Germany and met WW2 veteran, Ben Willbond and his adoptive son, Eryn. There, they also made enemies with their first Hybrid enemy and Mat's twin brother, Andrew. Tubbo initially called Ben, his 'second dad.' He later learned that he has a Nazi (now neo-Nazi) uncle called Andrew who happened to be Mat's estranged twin brother who has been practising Nazism in secret. After about a week in Germany, the Zodiac heroes went to Normandy, France. There, they met Joan of Arc and later, her teammates known as the Zodiac Heroes from the Middle Ages.
The Zodiac heroes returned to Britain but had to visit Brighton to recruit Jim and his sons, Gerald and Kyle. However, Andrew teamed up with Dream and caused a storm which was later stopped by the Zodiac heroes. However, the pillars they formed on Brighton beach became a tourist attraction and the team were chased by people after they noticed that they were Zodiac heroes. This was later resolved after the use of the Memory wipe before the team went back to Cambridge.
However, things went bad when returning to Cambridge during the Chinese New Year. Chase, Medusa, Dream and Andrew teamed up to destroy the Zodiac heroes. Later, the team had to fight in the temples until Andrew shot Mat with Lunatite. Tubbo was almost hit until Larry and later Mat took the bullet. This led Mat into a coma while Larry got a joint fluid buildup. Later, another storm hit Britain and many people moved to the countryside from the city to be safe from the storm.
Volume 7 (Zach's era, post-storm era)
In the aftermath of the storm, the Zodiac heroes returned to their normal lives as Mat wakes up from a coma. However, they had to deal with more missions coming up for them in the future. Toby became one of the executioners who would execute Andrew. However, the execution failed and now, the Zodiac heroes, along with a new addition to the team, Dylan, had to go to Norwich the following week to learn about the orphans. He had a duel with Aimsey due to his mental health deteriorating and it led them to be injured. However, he quickly apologised.
When the Zodiac heroes visited Norwich, they learned more about the orphans and why they became orphans. However, while they were doing research, they had to fight one of the last conspirers during the 1980s Zodiac Massacre. Later, they had to go back to Cambridge as soon as Bill is experiencing diabetic keto acidosis which led him to a coma. As soon as he woke up, he took some time to recover before the heroes are on their way to Wales.
While on their way to Wales, the Time Eaters hijacked the train causing them to stop in Bath, Somerset. There, they met the former Zodiac heroes, Roland and Curt. Later, Curt defeated Dream and Andrew by using his powers and throwing them into the Great Bath. Which is considered acidic to Dark Spirits. After that, the team are on their way to Wales when they bumped into Kate.
When the team arrived at Wales, they bumped into some other 80s Zodiac heroes who were seeking the healer, known as Tom. After their appointment with the healer, the woke up at the side of a castle. Then, they went to Aimee's inherited house where they had a battle with a corroded Andrew. Curt injured his ribs in the battle after defeating Andrew so the Zodiac heroes went back to Cambridge and were suspended from missions for a month.
Personality
Like his Dream SMP counterpart, he is hyperactive, earnest and naive. He is also easygoing and optimistic. During his early days as a hero and 2nd leader, he was scatterbrained but is a loyal person. As soon as he matures, he starts to get smarter and is lawful. Especially as the leader. He also tends to make sarcastic jokes about his dyslexia, cystic fibrosis and his small height. During his lowest point in Season 5, his mental health deteriorated and is suffering from PTSD. He also fell severely depressed to the point he cut himself. Even after his recovery, he takes things even more seriously and isn't as cheerful as he was. Despite getting over his PTSD, he is still showing signs of it, like some nightmares that are related to his past life. He wasn't open about his struggles but when he opened up to his adoptive father, Mat, he starts to become more open. He initially became more protective and caring, especially towards his adoptive siblings. Tubbo is also showing signs of survivor's guilt after Mat fell into a coma. His mental health declined again after Mat woke up from his coma to the point of insanity.
