Katherine killed her first person in an accident when she was little, when her quirk first developed.

She had unknowingly used her quirk on her dad, and she had realized what she could do. She realized that she was strong, so when that villain attacked her school, she sang a note and commanded it to die. The villain did as it was told, and Katherine felt that fuzzy presence for the first time.

She was too young to go to prison, and her father was protected by the government at the time due to his work as a hero.

Over and over, this memory of blood and the power she had re-played every single night during her time at the prison. From this, one could tell she wasn't doing swell.

Four years have passed, and Shinso is a pro hero now. Katherine heard from her guardians that he was doing an amazing job outside the four walls of her cell.

She's gotten used to them after so long. Those four, blank walls are her present and her reality. It was no use running from them, since she knew that the outside world is no better.

She was proud of Shinso. Ever since she first encountered him, she had known he could become a hero unlike any other. Though, hearing the news from other people made her heart ache.

Just imagining the soft, happy grin that would light up on his face when he talked about changing the world made her heart feel full and empty at the same time.

The government had decided to keep the two separate. Meaning, Katherine hadn't seen Shinso in four years. In those four years, Shinso had graduated and risen in the ranks. Meanwhile, Katherine could barely sleep at night, knowing people were watching her every move.

Unlike Shinso, Aizawa and Yamada had gotten permission to see her after a year and half, and they continued visiting her any time the government let them, usually only on her birthday.

Those two had gone on a long period where they didn't contact anyone other than those closest to them and stopped teaching at U.A until two years after Katherine's accident. Both of them had lost weight and they seemed to have aged twenty years in two.

The first time they saw her was quite the heart wrenching scene though...

<flashback>

The moment Katherine saw her dad and uncle through the clear, glass window, it was as if she was shot with a bullet. They looked haggard, handsome, but haggard. And tired.

Shame and guilt made her neck flush red. She had done that to them.

The madness in her mind worsened, but she smiled at her guardians, knowing they'd worry themselves if she didn't.

"PONYO, ARE YOU OK?"

A nod.

"Katherine, can you talk to us?"

A sad shake of the head.

"Ponyo, can you not tell us?"

Another nod.

Aizawa's face darkened as he looked into her eyes and asked, "Katherine, you are the closest thing to a daughter I will ever have, so I ask you this: was there a chance I could've saved you?"

She felt her eyes brim with tears. Lords, he was dramatic.

Katherine looked at him and softly shook her head causing her tears to fall onto the white floor or her white room.

"Ponyo..." her dad begged her with hurt evident in his unusually darkened eyes, "Please talk to us."

She gave him a strained smile, taking her trembling right index finger and pointed to the bandages around her throat.

The two men stopped breathing.

Singing was her escape.

Singing was unconditional.

Singing, her voice, was her everything, and they took it, stole it from her.

"P-Ponyo... no..." her dad stumbled back after watching his daughter hold back her tears, "They wouldn't have... no..."

Aizawa just stared at the bandages around her throat that seemed to resemble a noose more than anything. He couldn't do anything. He couldn't help her. He was-

Katherine interrupted his thoughts by walking up to the glass, guns trained on her back, and put her forehead on the glass. She couldn't hide the salty, bitter tears escaping her eyes now.

Her dad put his forehead against the glass on his side while continuously mumbling apologies.

Aizawa got his turn to kiss the glass between him and her forehead. He couldn't help but want to reach out and pat her head to comfort her.

Silently, Katherine cried in shame after they left. Her entire life she had felt like she was sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Sinking so slowly, so painfully that she could see and understand everything happening, but couldn't do anything as gravity dragged her deeper.

But this one time, that very moment, Katherine Yamada regretted succumbing to the bleakness of being grey instead of at least pretending to be pure white.

Her regret came in the form of fat tears in frustration she couldn't even cry out for someone to save her as the multiple guards watched her fall asleep once more.

<end of flashback>

One day, her guards seemed to be more on edge than usual. They were normally relaxed since all she did was sleep in small thirty minute intervals, eat the crappy food they served, and drew on sheets of paper with crayons. It was suspicious, and she would find the reason walking through the doors after her usual drawing session.

The doors opened revealing a tall figure of a man. By looking at his outfit, one could tell he was a hero. His purple hair and the familiar dark circles under his darkened eyes. This was not the reason Katherine's heart stopped.

It was the heartbroken look in his eyes.

Shinso looked at Katherine through the glass and felt his hidden feelings collide. He was a hero, yet when he looked at this "dangerous villain", all he felt was love.

She looked exhausted. She was skinny and malnourished, but in his eyes, she was still beautiful.

Just as beautiful as she was that day at the hospital when he professed his love.

Just as beautiful as the day she looked back at him with pained eyes as she stepped into the dark portal taking her farther and farther away from him.

Just as beautiful as the day she finally said she loved him back.

It was too much for him. He left.

Time passed as it does, and Shinso visited her once again. This time he stayed and the two sat in silence while they just stared at each other. Katherine felt peace. Shinso felt relief. Relief that she was still here with him. This time, he left after thirty minutes.

The next time he visited, the two locked eyes and Katherine's face soften at his face covered with worry. She mouthed, "I love you. Please kill me."

Shinso's blood freezes and the world stops. He couldn't hear her.

Her beautiful voice. He couldn't hear it. His favorite sound in the world.

He left with her request repeating over and over again in his mind. He couldn't help but smile dryly. Katherine Yamada had finally learned to be selfish, asking the person who loves her to end her life.

He visited again, but this time Katherine meets his eyes and words "Please kill me, Shinso. It hurts."

He was about to turn around and leave when he saw the tear rolling down her pale, dry skin. Just from looking into her eyes, he could understand. He left with tears in his eyes.

On her birthday, he was ready.

Shinso greeted Katherine's guardians, and they gave him a melancholic smile.

After an uneventful celebration consisting of Present Mic telling Katherine about the things he's seen since he last saw her, Katherine nodding and smiling, and Aizawa and Shinso chuckling every now and then, it was time.

After her parents left, he stared at Katherine, asking her if she was ready.

Katherine nodded.

Shinso used his quirk on the guards to let him into her plain, blank room.

He walked in, and it was silent. Just the shuffling of cloth as Katherine got up from her bed.

She was slouched when they were a foot apart as if she was trying to hide herself from his view.

"Don't hide yourself, Angel. Stand tall."

She straightened her posture and looked up at him.

Shinso is enraptured by her beauty. The slight, happy quirk of her lips and the clarity in her eyes he hadn't seen in years.

After releasing her from her quirk-stopping handcuffs, he reached out to pet her head, and she closed her eyes, relishing the smell of lavender and the ocean.

He pulled her into his embrace, gently like she could shatter at any given moment. He whispered, "Angel, I'm so sorry I couldn't save you."

He lifts his head and sees the strange 'i am judging you right now' face on her face.

"Seriously?" he chuckled at her facial expressions of both disgust and guilt, "Well, I guess I'm saving the both of us right now, right?"

Her eyes widened in surprise. She didn't know he planned to leave with her.

He playfully rustled her hair, "Did you really think I want to exist in the first place?"

She cracked a smile even though she understood his real reason: He couldn't live without her, but he couldn't ignore her plead. All he could do was die with her in his arms. And that's exactly what he planned to do.

He placed a kiss on her left cheek and looked into her eyes, "Ready?"

Katherine nodded.

Shinso undid his control over the guards. In a panicked frenzy, the guards saw the two figures in the room and immediately fired.

As the bullets rained down like brilliant rays of sunshine upon the star crossed lovers, Katherine sprouted her wings, ash grey from her sorrow, and covered them as Shinso pulled her into his warm, comforting arms once more and whispered, "Sayonara, Angel."

The sound of bullets shooting through flesh thundered then dimmed, leaving only the mysterious sound of muffled laughter.

Across the world, two orange blossoms, representing eternal love, bloomed right next to each other as if to make up for their past, the gods paved a way for them to be together once again.
