"We have got to be careful my love" Thanatos said, his hands ghosted along my waist as he held me
"We are being careful" I insisted, leaning up to kiss his cheek
"Mm, but Moros seems to be on a mission of sorts, he is not letting this go" he said.
"Well then let him run ragged, we cannot feel responsible for his endeavours, if he wishes to chase a non existent reason then let him" I said
"But there is a reason" he smiled, looking down at me.
"Hm, but a reason that does not involve him. I said no because I did not want to go with him, simple as that, he needs to accept that if he wishes to be happy" I said, leaning my head against his chest.
We had been laying down by the tree for hours now.
And as tired as I was, pained by having to get up hours earlier than need be, I would do it all again tomorrow for these little stolen moments we could share
Without being detected
I watched the light slowly rise and shine across the fields, I wish I could watch an actual sunset.
Sit in a proper field surrounded by flowers and watch the sun rise over us
But that would require leaving the underworld
And someone notifying my father that I had left earlier than need be
He would wonder why, he would wonder why Thanatos was with me.
It would be a disaster
But I would settle for this, just because I was with him.
Just being with my love
"We should get back princess" he mumbled, planting a kiss on my forehead
"Mm" I hummed, standing up.
"I shall see you later" I said, leaning up for an extra kiss
He hummed against me, holding me tightly before his hand ran through my free flowing hair
That I am sure was tangled by now... the maids were certainly going to complain.
"I shall see you later princess" he said, before I had to pull away
My fingers slipping softly past his as I walked away
I trailed up the hill quickly, quietly rushing back to room ready for everyone else waking up.
It was only when I had took to sorting my crazy waves out, that Melinoe strolled into my room leisurely
"Morning dear sister" she said
"Morning Noe" I smiled at her in the mirror
"How are you this morning?" She asked, waltzing over to me and swatting my hands away from my hair.
"I am perfectly... content" I said honestly
"Hm... has that got anything to do with where I saw you going so early this morning?" She said amused
I tilted my head back and looked at her
"Um... maybe" I answered, giving her a small smile.
She chuckled
"I assume it is going well then?" She asked
"Yes. It's perfect. He is perfect" I sighed
I could not be more happy with Than
"Father wants to see you this morning, he wants to go over your duties now Thanatos is back at work" she explained.
I nodded
"Okay Noe" I smiled
"And do not forget we have the ball on Olympus in 2 weeks" she said, plaiting my hair
"Okay" I said
"And mother is coming back earlier due to the wars" she said
"Alright" I groaned, letting my head fall back.
Macaria's Outfit
"Stop whining. If I do not remind you, you will only forget" she said.
Noe was always doing this. Acting like our mother when she was not here.
I loved her for it. But I always missed mother so much when she was at Demeter's.
Noe was not even the eldest, she just took it upon herself to be the 'sensible' one.
"So... will you be attending the ball with a partner?" She asked amused
I sighed
"You know it is not that simple" I said
"No, but you cannot hide forever, sooner or later father will find out and you know just as well as I do that it will bode you better to come clean before you are outed" she said.
I nodded
"I know" I said
"You are smart Cari, you know you will have to tell him" she said
"I know Noe... goddess... just let me breathe" I chuckled, standing up
"Hm, hard to considering the state in here" she commented, striding over to the curtains and throwing them open.
"When was the last time you let a maid in here?" She asked
"Alright I am leaving" I said exhausted
"Good. And tell him" she called after me.

"I will be giving you more duties amongst Asphodel. Just as Thanatos will be taking on more around Tartarus" father explained
He has been talking for what felt like hours.
"Do you not think that is a little tedious father?" I asked
"What do you mean?" He asked, quirking a brow up
"I mean... you cannot keep giving me duties in the 'safe areas' as you always deemed them" I said.
"And leave Than to deal with the dark souls" I said
He looked at me for a moment, blinking once... then twice
"Than?" He asked curiously, taking me back slightly
I tried to compose myself before speaking again.
"I just... I am capable of more. You do not need to hold me back" I said honestly, I did want to take on more.
I wanted to make my mark in my role. Instead of doing all the 'easy' jobs because father was the ruler.
"I shall think about it" he said
I nodded
"Thank you. How is mother?" I asked hopefully
"She is doing fine darling, she wants to see you and Noe tonight" he informed me.
I could not help the happiness that bubbled inside me.
I always missed her so much. And I wanted to update her of my relationship with Thanatos.
I liked speaking to Noe, but mother was wise. She always knew what to do.
"In the meadow?" I asked with hope
"Yes, in the meadow" he nodded, causing a smile to beam from my face.
The human world was beautiful. The meadow was always so pretty, especially at sunrise...
I had only managed to see it a handful of times during work or when mother could take me as a child.
When she was staying with my grandmother, we would always have to see her at night
It was still magical, but it was not... human.
"Right, I have to get to the souls, have a good day Cari" he said, standing up, before he planted a kiss on my forehead
He began to walk away
"Father?" I asked, feeling my heart sink as he turned to look back at me.
"Yes?" He asked
"I... um..." I did not know how to word it. Would he really be that angry?
"Cari?" He asked a bit impatiently
"Uh... nothing, it does not matter" I dismissed
"Are you sure?" He asked.
I nodded
"I am sure" I said, watching him nod once before leaving the room.
I sighed, letting my head drop into my hands.

"Well that was... easier" Thanatos commented, trailing the small path away from the Asphodel fields
"Yes, makes the day less heavy on the heart" I commented, walking beside him.
The deaths were not too heart breaking today. All were sad, and they weighed heavy in my chest
But today were mainly war deaths. Good men falling in battle.
We strolled along the path, concealed by bushes and blossom trees above us, creating a tunnel of sorts
They were slowly falling off the branches, dying blossoms falling at our feet
This always happened when mother left
It was like our very own autumn and winter, everything she brought to life slowly wilted until her return.
I brushed my hand against Than's, my pinky slowly entwining with his
He glanced my way, smiling softly, receiving the same back
He made me so unbelievably happy.
"I nearly told my father today" I said out of the blue, causing Than to halt in his steps
"Really?" He asked, I nodded, concern settling within me
"I did not though" I said
"Why?" He asked.
"I just could not do it. I... I love you Thanatos, I do not want to risk it and lose you" I explained.
"You will never lose me. No matter what happens" he said, grasping my face in his cold hands
I looked each way down the trail, before reaching up and kissing him softly.
He responded immediately, his hands ghosting round my waist whilst mine winded round his neck
"Mm" I hummed, slowly walking backwards until my back hit one of the trees, I was so wrapped up in him that I could barely think.
His lips passed over my neck, so painfully slow that I nearly whined from the lack of contact
"Than" I breathed out softly
He hesitated, his warm breath ghosting against my skin.
"Than" I pleaded, my knees buckling slightly
"I... I cannot" he said, pulling back a few inches to look me in the eyes
I do not think I could have hidden the disappointment in my eyes
"What?" I asked
"We... we cannot my love, not until everyone knows. I cannot... I can'-"
I cut him off with a small kiss
"It is alright. I understand" I mumbled, looking down
He could not... kiss me. Not the way couples do.
We should not have even touched each other the way we had the other night.
We needed to do things the proper way. Like a courting couple would
"I do love you" he said, taking my face in his hands once more to make me look up at him
"I know. I love you too" I smiled
"I really mean it Macaria. You are everything to me. That is why we... I cannot lose you" he said honestly, I could sense the desperation in his voice.
I could sense it so well because I heard it in my own at times
I did not want to lose him either
He leant in, planting a slow sweet innocent kiss on my lips, before his face broke into a smile.
"Macaria?"
I looked to the left, Than's hands flying away from my face
I stood shocked as Moros stood at the end of the path with Hypnos next to him
"Thanatos?... what are you doing?" He asked, the pieces finally connecting in his head.
"Uh... Moros this is not..." I didn't know what to say to him, I looked between him and Hypnos. Unsure of what to do.
"Are you two... involved?" He asked
"I... uh..." I looked to Than for help.
"Hypnos?" He asked, turning to him instead
He looked unsure for a moment, like he was trying to figure out what to do. Before he quickly shot his hand out and touched Moros' forehead, sending him to sleep before he dropped to the floor.
"Hypnos!" I said worried
He shrugged.
"What else was I supposed to do?" He asked.
