Chapter 11

It had been a few days since the incident at the school, the high school was closed due to a pending investigation. There was a manhunt for Derek Hale- Scott and Stiles thought the older werewolf was dead but Sage knew better.

She had been spending time with both Lydia and Allison seeing as Scott was heartbroken from Allison breaking up with him. Apparently, Stiles was supposed to try and cheer him up tonight- she wanted to go with them, she knew the alpha was still out there and he wanted Scott and wherever Scott was- so was Stiles.

But here she was instead, in Allison's room accompanied by Lydia while they watched the notebook and ate ice cream.

The blonde has only had her heart broken once- and it was a long time ago. She shook her heard from those thoughts when the smell of sadness wafted her nose.

"Trust me it's for the best." Sage held a spoon fool of ice cream in her mouth as she watched Lydia comfort the heartbroken brunette who couldn't stop looking at her phone.

"You think?" Allison asked,

"Do you regret it?" Sage asked the girl before Lydia could say anything to make the girl feel even worse.

"I-I don't know." The young huntress replied, looking down- before anything else was said, Sage's ringtone blared through the bedroom. She excused herself seeing that it was Stiles calling her.

"Stiles, what's up?

"Fish in the sea." She heard Scott say from the other end, she looked at her phone confused, maybe he butt dialled me she thought as she continued to listen. "Fish? Why are you talking about fish? I'm talking about girls. I love girls. I love 'em. Especially ones with long blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, 5'6..." She heard Stiles trail off, he just described her to a T.

"Like Sage?" She heard Scott ask.

"Exactly!-" She cut off the phone looking slightly shocked from what she just heard. She had no idea why she was so confused, she knew Stiles was fond of her- the bond fueled his feelings for her but she had no idea he felt so strongly.

A wide smile pulled on her lips as she held the phone close to her chest.

Sage had waited for the Stlinksi boy outside of school this morning, she knew he was okay because the boy asked if she needed a ride but the blonde declined, wanting to ride in her own car.

She had already seen both Lydia and Allison, who again asked the girls if she made a mistake with breaking up with the teen wolf and Lydia 'kindly' reminded the young huntress that Scott had left them for dead.

"Hey Sage, looking hot- how 'bout I take you out tonight?" Sage eyed the lacrosse player that had just spoken to her. He was surrounded by his buddies and Jackson but the blonde didn't care. She simply looked past the boy while she waited for Stiles, but of course, blockhead couldn't take a hint.

"Sage-

"Does it look like I'm interested?" The boy looked stunned when Sage replied to him- she rolled her eyes but her face brightened when she saw the familiar blue jeep pull into the school parking lot.

"Jackson, tell your friends that they can't possibly meet my standards." Everyone oo'ed as the blonde walked towards the jeep.

"I'm surprised you're sober enough to drive." The blonde mused when Stiles stumbled out of his jeep. Stiles looked at the blonde in confusion, "W-what are you talking about?" Sage just threw a teasing smile at him before grabbing his wrist as they walked to first-period Chemistry.

The blonde sat at her desk, Stiles next to her as they waited for the bell to ring. They had a test- thanks to Mr Harrison, everyone seemed stressed but Sage knew she could pass the test with flying colours.

Before the teen wolf even walked in she could smell the heartbreak in the air, the young werewolf frowned when he looked at Allison who in turn looked away. He tried to talk to the young huntress but she was saved when Mr Harrison informed the boy to take his seat.

"You have 45 minutes to complete the test. 25% of your grade can be earned right now simply by writing your name on the on cover of the test," Harris announced. Stiles stared, then quickly jotted down his name. The blonde giggled, she had no idea how the boy could forget such a thing, but never the less, she was glad he was serious about his grades. "However, as happens every year, one of you will inexplicably fail to put your name on it, and I'll be left yet again questioning my decision to ever become a teacher. So, let's get the disappointment over with. Begin." He started a timer and Sage opened her test and started answering, she could hear how frantic Scott's heartbeat was, she frowned when the young werewolf shot up and ran out of the class, Stiles following right behind him- ignoring the calls from Mr Harris.

She sighed hoping the boy got his emotions under check- the full moon was likely fueling his emotions. A heartbroken teen was one thing, but a heartbroken teen wolf was something else.

*~*

Stiles was practically buzzing with excitement as he walked out of the locker room with Scott. "Are you not freaking out? I'm freaking out."

Scott didn't care that he got co-captain status. "What's the point? It's just a stupid title." He muttered sounding tired. "And I could practically smell the jealousy in there."

"You smell jealousy?" Stiles asked as he and Scott walked out of the locker room, "It's like the full moon's turned everything up to ten." Scott said and Stiles looked at him slightly nervous.

"Huh." Stiles nodded, shifting on the balls of his feet. "Can you pick up on stuff like," He paused, taking a glance down the hall. "I don't know, desire?"

Scott stared at him blankly. "What do you mean desire?"

"Like sexual desire?" Stiles glanced down the hall to make sure that Sage wasn't listening. Luckily, she seemed to be having a conversation with Lydia.

"Sexual desire?"

Stiles nodded eagerly. "Yeah, sexual desire. Lust, passion, arousal." He emphasized.

Scott glanced down the hall and caught who his friend was staring at. "You mean from Sage."

"No, in a general broad sense, can you determine sexual desire?"

"From Sage to you."

"Okay, yes fine. Man listen, this girl- this girl got me fucking hooked since she set foot into our small little town. She says she's my guardian or protector but I need to know if that's all, if I even have a slight chance with her you know?"

"You just said she's your guardian, so you guys have a connection. Why don't you just ask her?" Scott asked the boy bluntly, not particularly caring about the conversation.

"Well, to save myself from utterly crushing humiliation." He said as if it were obvious. He knew they had spent many times with each other alone, he even thought she was gonna kiss him the other night. But he needed to be sure. "So go over, ask if she likes me, see if her heartbeat rises, pheromones come out. Anything. Please." Stiles pleased and Scott sighed, "Fine."

Stiles grinned watching his friend going towards the girl he was utterly obsessed with. "I love you. I love you. You're my best friend in the whole world." He said happily before he rushed off towards the lacrosse field.

Scott walked over to Sage who was currently talking to Lydia. "Hey, Sage can I talk to you?" Scott asked and she looked over at him and nodded before looking back at the strawberry blonde, "I'll talk to you later." She said then she and Scott walked into Coach's office.

"So...?" She asked, leaning against the desk.

Scott shut the door behind them, his expression was a bit pained. "Just - I needed to ask you something. Do you, uh - Do you know if Allison still likes me?" The blonde sighed before answering "I mean, she kept asking me and Lydia if she made a mistake- so of course, she still likes you." The young werewolf looked hopeful for a second until she continued, "But I think she just needs some space you know, but I know if she knew why you did what you did she'd be grateful."

Scott looked at her, a different expression on his face. "Are you grateful?" He ignored the warning bells going on in his head as her sweet scent wafted into his nose. "For what?" She asked, standing up a bit straighter when she saw him getting closer. His face neared hers and she raised a brow. "What are you doing?" She stared at him as she took in the way his posture was tense before she could even throw the teen wolf another question, he was kissing her.

It was all but 0.5 seconds before the vampire grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back as she slammed him against the wall. "Touch me again, and I promise you. I will grind your heart into dust."

*~*

Stiles sat down at the bench and then Scott sat down next to him, "Hey. What happened? What did she say?" He asked and Scott glanced at him, "What?" He asked, "What do you mean what? Did you ask her? Did she say anything? Did she say she liked me? Imply she liked me?" Stiles asked and Scott nodded, "Yeah. Yeah, she likes you. In fact, she's totally into you." Scott said making Stiles pump his fists, turning to see Sage who was talking to Lydia.

Coach tosses the ball and Scott goes for it. Moving fast, until two players collide with Scott, ramming into him with brutal force. He tumbles to the ground, stick clattering away from him. "I guess some people don't appreciate your new status, McCall." Coach laughed.

"Next!" Coach yelled but before another player can step forward, Scott whips his lacrosse stick in front of him. Teeth bared underneath his helmet, he steps to the head of the line again. "That's the spirit. Earn it, McCall! Earn it!"

Sage was still seething with rage from what occurred in coaches office a while ago. She knew that the full moon was prying on Scott's emotions but that still didn't give him a right, that was the only reason she didn't rip out his heart then and there. Well that and the fact that Stiles and Allison would never forgive her.

She could sense the aggression coming off Scott as he got back in line, she knew shit was about to go south but she couldn't help but watch. Coach sent the ball, bouncing on the ground and the teen wolf grabbed it, shooting forward at the two defenders. He smashed through them without a care, while Danny came forward out of his goal, Scott sent his elbow into Danny's helmet sending him through the air.

Danny goes down with a strangled cry of pain. Coach blows the whistle as other players start forward, Jackson shoves past everyone, alarmed for his friend.

"Dude, what the hell are you doing?" Sage heard Stiles demanded angrily as she walked down the field to check on her injured friend.

"He's twice the size of me," Scott defended.

"Yeah, but everybody likes Danny," Stiles said, soon enough Scott had walked off, coach had called practice to an end while Sage made her way over to the Stilinksi boy.

"It's the full moon and the breakup with Allison," Sage said causing the boy to turn around and face her.

"Yeah but God, to hurt Danny."

"Yeah he's being a dick, he even kissed me." She said making Stiles's head whip over to her.

"Wait what? When?" He asked, his heartbeat rising.

"Couple minutes before I came out on the field, said he wanted to talk- asked me about Allison then kissed me. I almost ripped his arm out of his socket- told him if he tried some shit like that again I would rip his heart out." She said making Stiles look in the direction Scott walked off in with a look of shock, betrayal and hurt.

*~*

Stiles walked into Scott's darkroom, opening the door and set down the bag he brought. Turning the lights on, he jumped back startled when he saw his so-called best friend sitting in the dark corner. "Oh, my God! Dude. You scared the hell out of me. Your mom said you weren't home yet."

"I came in through the window," Scott said in an emotionless tone.

"Okay." Stiles crouched opening the bag filled with chains. "Uh, well, let's get this set up. I want you to see what I bought."

Scott stared at him. "I'm fine. I'm just gonna lock the door and go to bed early tonight."

"You sure about that?" Stiles asked him, not looking at all convinced. "'Cause you've got this kind of serial killer look going on in your eyes, and I'm hoping it's the full moon taking effect, 'cause it's really starting to freak me out."

"I'm fine. You should go now." His voice was blank.

"All right, I'll leave." He tried to keep his voice and heartbeat steady, "Well, look, would you just at least look in the bag and see what I bought? You know, maybe you use it, maybe you don't. Sound good?"

Scott stared at him before standing up and crouching down slowly. He looked down at the chains that he lifted up. "You think I'm gonna let you put these on and chain me up like a dog?" His voice deepened.

"Actually, no." Stiles quickly took advantage and handcuffed him to the radiator.

"What the hell are you doing?" He growled at him, tugging on the handcuffs.

"Protecting you from yourself and giving you some payback -" Stiles jaw clenched as he stared at his friend with an angry look. He felt so betrayed by his friend. "For kissing Sage."

*~*

"You kissed her, Scott! Okay? You kissed Sage. That's, like, the one girl that I--and, you know, the past three hours, I've been thinking, 'It's probably just the full moon,' you know? He doesn't even know what he's doing, and tomorrow, he'll be totally back to normal. He probably won't even remember what a complete dumbass he's been-- a son of a bitch, a freaking unbelievable piece of a crap friend-" Stiles said as he thought about what Sage had told him. He was gutted when she had told him what had happened, the fact that his best friend had kissed her- she didn't kiss him back thank God, but he still kissed her.

He knows it was the full moon but that didn't mean he still couldn't feel betrayed.

"She kissed me." The teen wolf blurted out, tone smug.

"What?" His voice dropped to a whisper filled with disbelief.

Scott had a spiteful smile on his lips. "I didn't kiss her. She kissed me." Stiles' eyes filled with hurt and he turned around and sat outside the room. "She would have done a lot more, too. You should have seen the way she had her hands all over me. She would have done anything I wanted. Anything!"

He tried to block out the screams of his best friend. He couldn't help but just feel a little doubt. He knew that Sage would never lie to him- he saw the look of hate and disgust on her face as she recalled back the event but he still couldn't help but feel that slither of doubt.

Yeah, she was his guardian- his protector. But what if that was it?

Why would a vampire like her have feelings for a human like him?
