Sarah POV:
Five weeks have passed, and a lot has changed. Jason was caught and put in jail for life after finding plans on how to kill my family and lock me away to keep to himself. Which really shook us all, Hunter took it the hardest seeing as they had been best friends. But he was getting over it with our help. Layla doesn't really come home much now and mostly stays with Jett, which is fine seeing as she is nearing her due date herself, and I want Jett to be there for her when the time comes. Jace is almost 2 months now and I can't believe how fast time as gone. Three weeks ago I was cleared to start training again and I was horrified at how out of shape I was. But after a few days I made it my motivation to get back to where I was before. A week ago I got to ride again and the first few laps I had tears in my eyes. I missed it bad but it wasn't till I got back to it that I realized just how much I had truly missed it. I think if I don't have any setbacks and I continue on this track I'll be ready for the east coast series.
The boys at the tracks have been amazing to us, taking turns to watch Jace so we could get our laps in on their breaks. And of course like the little stinker he is he had everyone wrapped around his finger. The one that had the biggest weak spot for him was Adam funny enough. But now I was sitting in the stands with the other riders families watching practice for the opening round of Supercross, which made me a bit nervous. I always got nervous watching the boys race when I wasn't riding the track too. Even as kids I was that way. As the 450s take off my eyes never leave Chase, watching and memorizing his every movement, looking for mistakes that can be corrected or where he could switch lines up to make up more time. And before I knew it it was over and he was fastest, which didn't really mean anything since it was just practice but it was a good way to start the day. Standing up and adjusting Jace in my arms I start to head back to the tent when I heard someone call my name from behind. Turning around I see Paige Craig walking towards me, and with smiles we give each other a hug as she asks,
"Hey girl, how you been? And tell me the truth missy!"
I raise a eyebrow and say,
"Crazy as all get out. Being new parents, both of us training full time. And dealing with drama that's finally over, it's been a rollercoaster but we have dealt with it all and came out stronger for it."
As we enter the elevator say asks softly,
"Are you ok? I mean Chase told me about how Jace came into the world and after everything else that's happened that had to be so hard."
I swallow a lump in my throat as I look down at my sleeping boys face, and finally say,
"It was hard, I wanted to quit and just give up. Hell I'm pretty sure I begged to stop multiple times but Chase was amazing through it all. Jace and I are both so damn lucky to have him in our lives. If it wasn't for him neither of us would be here today. And I will spend the rest of my life trying to make it up to him, even though there is no way I'd ever come close."
A tear slipped down the side of my face as I smile back at her shocked face. As the doors open and we step off she stayed silent for a few minutes till she whispers,
"Yes I agree, he is amazing, but he is so lucky to have a woman like you by his side. You have gone through all the shit and can still enjoy life, you can still be a amazing mom and significant other and I know I couldn't be as strong as you. I would have broken a long time ago, but here you are, have a practically new born baby and training to make history once again in this incredibly difficult sport and making it look like its second nature. You really are a inspirational woman Sarah, and don't let anyone tell or make you feel differently."
I look at her in stunned silence as we stand in the hallway leading out of the building. Shaking my head I step forward and hug her, minding Jace in my arm. She hugged back as I whisper in her ear,
"Thank you, really. I don't know how much inspiration I have given but if you say so I'll keep it going."
We pull apart just in time for Chase to come riding through from his post practice interview. He stops next to us ask says,
"Hey Paige! Sarah want a ride back?"
I snort and ask,
"Oh sure, and what would I do with our son?"
He just looks at me and slowly says,
"Just hold onto him, and sit in front of me. Between the both of us keeping a eye on him he won't fall."
I blink at him and turn to look at Paige who was trying to not bust out laughing and I say,
"And I was just saying how lucky we were to have him, and this is what I get? Him trying to kill us?"
With that she loses it, and I follow making Chase look at us in confusion before asking,
"I don't think I want to know. But do you want a ride or not babe?"
I look at him and sigh,
"Fine, but don't make me regret agreeing to this!"
All he does is mock me as he helps me slid on the bike. Once I am on and I got a good hold on Jace I throw my legs around his forks and look at Paige who is watching in amusement and say,
"If I die, will you make sure he doesn't pull stupid stunts with my son?"
Nodding in agreement we take off, and I can hear laughter from behind. Chase rides slow but I couldn't help but tighten my hold on our son in fear of dropping him. Which is pretty much impossible since he's snuggled into the baby sling and has my arms wrapped around him but sue me for being overly cautious with him. As he slows to a stop at the team's tent I carefully get off the bike and check Jace to see if he's ok, only for him to still be sound asleep. I huff a laugh as look up at Chase who already had his helmet off looking at us with a smile. I rise a brow and he says,
"See, he was just fine. Even slept through the whole thing!"
I roll my eyes with a small smile and say,
"No shit, or did you forget that the sound of running bikes calmed him down and got him to stop kicking me?"
As Chase went to respond he was cut off by a voice,
"Wait really? I thought you were joking when you said that before."
We turn and see Kenny standing there. We just nod as he mutters,
"Damn, definitely your guys kid."
I snorted and felt Jace start to move, looking down he opened his eyes and tried to reach towards his dad. With a laugh I say,
"Chase, little man wants you."
As he walks back up to me from putting his bike on the stand, I take Jace out of his sling and hold him while saying,
"Chase take off the damn neck brace at least. You know he will just hit his head on it."
He quickly takes it off and takes him from me, laying his head on his shoulder as he kisses my forehead and walks over to talk to his mechanic Jade. I myself go and walk towards the kawi tent and see Adam getting a water from the cooler. Grinning I run and right as he was standing up I yell,
"Think fast Chipotle lover!"
And before he could turn around I jump onto his back, almost making him fall over making me laugh as he squawked. I hear the whole team laughing as he reaches back to grab my legs to keep me up. He tilts his head back and looks at me,
"Really girl? You about gave me a heart attack, and Chipotle lover? Really?"
I stick my tounge out and stay quite as I just stay on his back as he walks around talking to mechanics. I would honestly say if I didn't fall for Chase right off the bat I'd go for Adam, but his more of the older brother now. I think to myself I really have a type, tall, dorky, sweet, caring and hard workers. But all well, I'm happy with Chase and I wouldn't change that for the world. After about 10 minutes I decided to give Adam a break as he never let's me down till I say so, so tapping his shoulder for him to get the hint. He does and let's me down just to through a arm around my shoulders and messes up my hair making me laugh and try and stop him. As I finally break away and try and fix my hair I say,
"Your damn lucky I love you too much to kill you for that!"
And all he did was laugh and say,
"Yeah yeah yeah love you too, now go away."
I flip him off as I head back to the boys tent. As I enter I see Chase bottle feeding Jace, while talking to Jade still. I stopped and just watched with a soft smile. Never did I think I'd see one of the top racers in the world bottling feeding his son, our son, while still doing his job. Most guys will help don't get me wrong but at the track or races they focus more on what their there to do. But Chase wouldn't let that happen, even more so since in a few weeks I'll be racing too. Luckily Keir comes to all the races and is going to help us watch Jace. I walk over and grab his diaper bag and walk over to Chase just as the bottle empties. Quickly getting a burp rag out and throwing it over my shoulder I gently take Jace from him as I burp him. Chase smiles in thanks as he has to start getting ready for the first round of qualifying.
After burping and changing Jace I grab my sling and put it back on and place Jace back in it. I start to head up when Jett pulls in looking upset. With a frown I look at Chase and he nods in understanding as he takes off. I walk towards Jett and walk up to his side as he takes his helmet off and all I do is lay my head on his shoulder. He sighs as he head comes to rest on mine, I hear hunter pull in but he doesn't come over or even ask Jett if he was ok. Making me think that whatever was going on was between them. Right as I go to ask, Jace looks over at Jett and reaches for him getting his attention. With a small smile he gives Jace a hand to play with as I finally say,
"I have no idea what went on between you and you brother, and don't ask how I know that I just do. And you don't have to tell me, just work it out like the grown ups you are ok?"
His eyes flick up and meet mine as he mutters,
"Yes ma'am."
With a light hit to his side making him laugh, I say,
"Oh shut up, did I ever tell you why I picked Jace James for his name?"
Jett just shakes his head as he looks at Jace and I continue,
"Well think about it, Jett and Chase, mix them together and you have Jace. And James is the name Hunter always wanted to be called when we were little. After he saw a James Bond movie. You three are my life, so my reason to live and keep going now has to have a part of you with it."
He stopped moving his hand and looked at me in disbelief and shock. He tried to say something but it wouldn't come out, so he just gave me a side hug and kissed me head. And that's all he had to do for me to understand what he was trying to say. I hear a throat clear and I turn to see Hunter standing there. I give him a smile and motion with my head for him to come over to us. He walks over and looks down at Jace who is now sucking on Jetts finger making us all laugh. Hunter speaks up,
"I didn't know you remembered about my James moment."
With a snort I answer,
"Yeah, how could I not? Shit was hysterical. Running around telling people your name wasn't Hunter and that is was James."
Jett started snickering as he asks,
"How could I not remember that? Or even been told about this? That's amazing!"
All Hunter does is slap him upside the head, but the two share a smile and I know they were over whatever had happened. And for that I was glad, I hated it when they were mad at each other. As the day went on, the more crabby Jace got. All he wanted was his dad but Chase was so busy. So I stayed away and dealt with it myself not to make Chase feel bad. During LCQ time I was in the stands again trying to keep Jace from crying when Chase showed up and sat down next to me. Taking Jace from my arms and holding him against his chest making him calm down instantly. I could only sigh in relief as Jace slowly fell asleep in his arms. Chase faced me and mutters,
"Sarah you know you didn't have to stay away. I can multitask you know. You shouldn't have to try and keep him entertained by yourself for hours like that, we're in this together ok?"
I just nod my head and curl up into his side the best I could and closed my eyes, mentally exhausted. Chase kissed the top of my head and said lowly,
"Get some rest, you got about a hour before I truly have to go back down. I got our little man."
All I could do was nod as I fell asleep to the sound of bikes running, fans cheering, Jace's snores, and Chases heartbeat.
