roughly 2 hours later, i find myself in the passenger seat of olivia's car. olivia let me pick the music, so i choose a kpop playlist that i deem non-kpop friendly. olivia and i listen to the music and i comment on little facts i know.
the drive isn't that long, but the place where olivia brings me is an abandoned target parking lot.
"are you ready to drive?" she asks as she turns off her car.
"i feel like you're going to murder me." i say as i stare blankly at the empty space ahead.
"i won't. pinky promise." i turn my head to see olivia stick out her pinky to me. i stick my pinky out to her and link fingers.
"sick." i unbuckle the seatbelt.
"let's switch places and hope you don't crash my car."
"i can't make any promises." i wink at her and open the car door.
the next two hours is spent with me practicing driving and olivia making snide comments.
"wow. you really can't drive, indie." olivia comments and i roll my eyes.
"i haven't crashed into anything, so shut up."
"at least i have my license."
"you won't when i cut it up."
"that's illegal."
"i will run you over with this car."

after driving around in the empty parking lot for a few hours and narrowly missing a light post, we ended the diving lesson.
"i think we should end the lesson since it's getting close to sunset." olivia suggests and i agree.
"i'm kinda hungry. what about you?" i ask as we get out of the car to switch seats.
"i'm up for getting food. where do you want to go?" olivia gets back into the driver's seat and turns to me.
with the first thing that comes to mind, "definitely cheddar and broccoli soup with a side of mac and cheese."
"i could really go for a grilled cheese and tomato soup. i know a place." olivia says and turns my playlist back on.
olivia drives us to the nearest local hole-in-the-walk restaurant that will satisfy our cravings. the food is amazing and i actually enjoy eating with olivia.
"since you gave me lessons, i'll pay for your food." i offer.
"no. i insist on paying for you." olivia counters.
"what the hell. i'm paying for you."
"no, you're not."
"too bad. i'm already walking to the register."
"i walk faster than you."
olivia and i race to the cash register as casually as we can in a public place. the poor teen, who looks to be a little older than us, has a scared look as two girls shove cards in their face.
we end up by settling by having the employee pick a card to use, which was mine.
as we exit the restaurant, olivia holds the door for me. i thank her and when we get back in her car, she speaks up.
"let's hangout again tomorrow after school."
"okay."
the rest of the car ride back is quiet, but the silence was nice.
