You stare at the empty space on the other side of the bed. Where he would lay after a long mission, or simply where he would lay in bed with you. Your pillow is wet from your tears. You didn't even notice you were crying, but then again, you finally let go off him.
And the crushing loneliness and sorrow that left behind had you crying for hours to no end. You fought to prevent it, and now it came back to slap you right in the face. You fought Thanos, his army, his pets and it wasn't enough. Your powers weren't enough to save your loved ones, half of the world. That was three years ago already.
But you lost Bucky only recently. Yes he died in the snap with everyone else, but your powers took over from there. Your powers created a version of Bucky you remembered.
Your shared room became somewhat of a safehouse. It was a safe place, inside nobody could take him away. Nobody could hurt you, not even Thanos. You created Wanda, Vision, even Sam had a spot.
But it wasn't until recently when you became aware it had happened. 2 months ago you saw a glitch, it sparked something inside of you and before you knew it, you were left in a cold and lonely room. The blinds were closed, the bed was the only mess.
You slumped to the ground and that's when Steve and Nat could break into your room. You were starved, completely drained.
'Y/n...' Friday speaks up. 'Yes Friday?'
'You have some messages.. from Captain Rogers and Miss Romanoff... would you like me to-'
'No.. Friday...Please just.. leave me alone for now...' you sigh. You wipe your cheeks and take a deep shuddering breath.
'As you wish...'
You look around the room. The pictures are still there, you're afraid to touch them, to break them. Then nothing would be left of the people you love but the memories.
You sit up, your legs planted on the ground. You take a deep breathe before pushing yourself up. You still have some damage, you may be a very powerful witch, but you're not immortal nor a fast healer.
You move over to the blinds to open them. This has become a ritual now. You wake up around noon, stare out of the window, eat something, then you do some physical therapy, you eat again, stare out of the window and go to sleep. If you can even manage to get some shut eye, that is.
You stare at the large forest in front of you. How can this be so peaceful while the world is in chaos? It's calming really. But the more you stand still, the more you have to think about it.
You suddenly lose balance, you stumble and fall against the desk, making a box fall from the top. You sit up against the large drawer, you take the velvet box into your hands. You tear up because you know exactly what's in it. Your shaking fingers open the box.
You reach for the cord, you pull it up. The metal and the diamond reflect against the light. He had dogtags made for you, with a diamond ring attached to it. That was going to be his way of asking you to be his. And he didn't get the chance because you weren't good enough.
You te the box fall out of your hand, your other remains it's hold on the cord, clutching it to your chest you start sobbing. 'I'm sorry...' you whimper. 'I'm so sorry...'
'Y/n...' it's followed by a kiss to the hair. You slowly turn your head, you open your eyes and see Bucky right in front of you, alive and well. Like he didn't vanish only a couple years ago.
'You're not real...' you croak out, turning your head away from his. 'But I can be..you can make me real again...' he whispers placing another kiss on your hair.
'No... no I can't...you're gone... I can't change that...'
'Come on Y/n, you've done it before...' he helps you up into your feet.
You still don't look at him, he's not real, it's your mind playing tricks. He's gone Y/n... come on... don't fall for it. Someone is trying to trick you.
'Doll?' He tilts your chin, your gaze meets his. 'There you are...'
'No..' you shake your head while tears slide down your cheeks. 'No... you're not real..'
'Then how can I hold you? How can I touch you now then doll? You created me, not fully but a piece of me... you can bring me back from the dead...' he states.
'I...' you step away from him, your back turned to the man. You stare out of the window, he doesn't have a reflection, which makes it even harder to believe.
'I know you want to... Y/n... you can make up for the mistakes you made...' He says and your head turns to him. You frown, if it really was the real him, he wouldn't say you made a mistake.
'What did you say?'
'You can correct the error you made... show the world your true power... you can bring everyone back... your sister, Vision... me... we could get married... start a family..' he tries to make an excuse but you see right through it.
'I didn't make an error... he was too strong..'
'Come on Y/n, you're stronger than Thanos..'
'No... who are you...' you demand. 'You're not Bucky so you can stop acting... who are you!'
Bucky smirks for a second before purple smoke fills the air around him. He vanishes into thin air while a lady walks out from the corner. 'Okay... you got me...'
Your eyes glow, partly because of the rage, partly because you feel threatened. 'Oh don't worry sweetheart... I won't hurt you... I just have a couple of questions for you...the name is Agatha Harkness'
'How about you go away? How did you even get in here?' You reply coldly.
'Details Y/n... details... it's not important.. the important thing is that I am here... and you y/n... you have the answer to my question...'
'Which is?' You speak through gritted teeth.
'How did you make this? How did you make an illusion of this size? How did you create this?'
'I don't know what you're talking about? And even if I did, why would I tell you anything?' You shoot back defensively.
'We're witches dear, we're supposed to share...we are the last ones that exist...'
'I'm not an ordinary witch... how did you even create him?'
She chuckles before explaining how she used the dust to recreate him, and that strikes a nerve with you. You're very patient, but the line you set as a boundary, is a dot to her already.
'You're lying, about wanting to know my secret... you already know it because you created him-'
'Not out of thin air like what you've been doing.. don't think I didn't see it Y/n..'
'But it's not the real reason...' you tilt your head. 'This is about something else...well this is a small part of it, you're trying to bring someone back..isn't it Agatha?'
She looks away from you, she certainly doesn't appreciate you bringing it up. You can see her magic surrounding her hands, it looks almost identical to yours, only yours glows more. Yours is bright, it's refined and polished while hers has cracks in it. It's dark magic.
'Say it Agatha, spit it out...'
She gets angry, her powers try to latch onto you but you break them off, much to her surprise. 'I wouldn't get angry at me... you're in an avengers compound.. I'm not the only powerful being here...'
She draws back her powers. 'You destroyed someone dear to me.. and you will either fix it... or die for it yourself..'
'You overestimate your threats Agatha... do you honestly think I would fear death when I lost almost everything 3 years ago?' You grin at her. 'You'd be doing me a favour..'
This takes her aback. She didn't expect you to be this close to the edge without her even having to do anything about it. 'So do tell me Agatha... who is it that I took from you?'
It isn't meant to be so mean and rude, but you have a good reason to be like this, to her. She used the dust of your dead fiancé to remake him, to play mind games on you. Yes you made your fiancé as well, but out of thin air, not from his ashes.
'Mephisto...' she answers with her head held high. 'Mephisto...' you repeat with wide eyes. 'Oh you mean the devil who tried to kill an entire civilisation? Yeah really sorry...'
'I was going to stop him...and we would vanish together forever...'
'I'm sure you tried Agatha... but I had no choice..'
'And I can't teach you how to create because I didn't know how I did it... it just happened...and I stopped it...because no matter what I do, it won't bring him back..it won't bring anyone back... so I'm sorry Agatha but I can't help you...'
'You scarlet witches think you can do anything... without consequences... without the use of spells..'
'What?'
'You and your sister both! You think you're entitled! To just build and destroy other peoples lives!' She yells at you.
'If you don't want to give me the secret, then I'll have to kill you...and everyone that stands in my way...'
'I'd like to see you try...' you reply to her. 'Because if you think you're getting away with using my fiancé's ASHES.. you thought wrong!' You use your powers to blast her away from you, she goes right through the wall.
'You know... I did underestimate you...' She pants as she pushes herself up again.
'You're just figuring that out now? Because Mephisto did... and he ended up getting ripped to shreds...' You saying this angers her even more. She uses her own power to latch onto you again. She seems stronger now somehow, but still no match.
'Y/n!' Bucky. You can hear him so clearly.
'Don't! Stop it!' You weave your magic through your fingers. 'You do not get to come here, pretend to be my fiancé and using his ashes for it, to then ask me questions and threaten to kill me if you don't get the answer that you want!'
'Oh but I did get the answer... at least a part of it... you're just so lost... you're empty on the inside.. numb.. you're using chaos magic...and I'm going to find out what I can do to get it... you haven't seen the last of me yet...'
'Y/n!' Steve yells making you turn your head. When you turn your head back she's gone. 'What happened?'
You stare back at the spot she was just in. Agatha Harkness, it sounds familiar. You step away from the huge mess you made. You wave your hands around to fix everything.
Agatha Harkness was the focus after that first encounter. You researched everything about her after that day. Collecting every single peace of evidence. You could say you know her pretty well by now...
So why couldn't you see it was her all along?
