Author's Note: I have decided to alter the summary of this fic to a pure Overlord fic. The headcanon I built up was disproven once new storylines like Sentinels, Ruined King and Void Empress came up, hence the reason for this change

I'll still use the Worldbuilding aspects to combine with the original New World and see whether it will fit

______

Ulbert wasn't a very patient man. Growing up inside a foster home and having to practically fend for himself the moment he turned fifteen, the man inside the goat demon have long learned nothing in life can be achieved unless you take the initiative

They arrived in an unfamiliar place. They discovered their avatar has now become their new body. Their abilities have been strengthened bybthe use of anworld item. Now they're about to enter this town to gather information, but his friend is having none of it

"Hey, Ulbert. I told you we have to wait, didn't I?"

He grunted. The human-looking man stare at the equally human-looking boy in confusion. The lich have ditched his invisibility mantle when they realized it's better to disguise as human in case someone noticed them plus the fact that he's not that silent in that robe of his. Luckily, Ulbert have an illusory item that can mask their appearance with low level canousflage

"What's wrong? We're already in disguise. It's gonna be easy blending in with the human here"

"That's not the point" Momonga's human form shook his head, white hair framing his face in an oddly feminine manner "We don't know if there's an ambush waiting for us. Let my summon scout out the area first"

"Your little summon have a 90% chance of aggroing this entire town once they are spotted. We either go low so nobody noticed or go ham and turn this place into a sea of fire" He paused "And what do you mean by an ambush?"

"I left all our World Items back in Nazarick...they're gone along with the Floor Guardians...I'm sorry, but we can't be too careful"

Ulbert admit he has a point. Two defenseless players without their main gears is basically prey for wandering PK-er

Even if their level is off the chart right now, there's no telling if someone will exploit World items to trap them in place

"Better be safe than sorry" Momonga sent him an apologetic glance, before he brought into existence a single being- a dull, pale eyeball with hollowed out iris being replaced with 'marked x's on them. As soon as it came into existence, the eyeball immediately become invisible and wandered off into the sky

"Is that a fucking Deathmark? Since when did you learn to summon it?" He blinked "No, wait, did you used [Dark Wisdom] on some unfortunate soul while i was gone and ripped this out from their arsenal?"

"I hadn't. This mysteriously appeared on my summoning codex as soon as I rechecked it" Momonga frowned "My theory is that our level cap being shattered enabled previously blocked undeads to become available for summoning. However they are still at the Basic level. Looks like I'll still need to build [Undertaker] to level them up"

"Ain't that cool?" Ulbert said, which earned a nod from his friend. He looked toward the sky

Deathmark is an exclusive summon from Yggdrasil. In the game, the option to unlock this thing is limited to learning job classes that have to do with corpse modification, such as [Shaman], [Graverobber], or [Undertaker] as previously mentioned. Once you have them, a range of new summons can be added to your expanding pool of spells

The eyeball summons in particular is favored by spy and ranger players. They have two passives: [Undetectable] and [Life Force Resonance]. The first apply low-tier stealth ability on the summon so they stay unnoticed. The second locate the life force of every creatures near the Deathmark and transmit that data to the player, so anything but undead creatures will be visible to them

Momonga covered his eyes, likely to have received an approximate bird eye's view of the town's inhabitant

"There's no Player in our vicinity. But I'll need to check for traps" He cast several detection wards around them. A shimering of transparent barrier came to life, displaying negative. The two players looked at each other "We should be safe to go, but here are some escape items in case we're caught. These are teleporstion rings, and this is the once-per-day full revival cash item I won from the Gacha"

"Damn you and your paranoid nature" Ulbert complained, slipping on the ring Momonga gave him. With the initial scouting done, they moved to enter the city. The two of them passed by the first few houses before being stopped by a guard by the entrace

"Halt, where do you gentlemen come from?"

"We're travellers of the land. Bilgewater caught our interest and we decided to pay it a little visit" Momonga replied smoothly "Unless, of course, this place is forbidden to outsiders?"

"Oh nothing of the sort" the guard's tone relaxed upon hearing they're just traveller "You looking mighty fine for a couple a sailor so I was curious. This ain't the place most fine Piltovan folks would visit you know"

Momonga nodded, filing away the information in his head

"We are capable of defending ourself if casual banditry is the implication of what you just said. Otherwise, rest assured that we simply wish to tour the city for our own interest"

"Of course, gentlemen. Have a nice stay" He laughed and stepped aside. The man tried to pat Momonga's back as they passed by. His friend caught it and leveled a glare at him, causing the man to hastily withdraw "I hope you the best of luck"

"Slimy bastard. He tried to feel you up to see where you hid the money"

"He won't find out. I stored them in the inventory, after all" Momonga smiled, before his eyes sharpened "But this gives us an idea of what the town is. The corrupted officials, the slum people, the dirty market...Bilgewater is a criminal den"

"And what are you gonna do about it? Bust them out and give them to the almighty grasp of authority?" Ulbert asked with a hint of annoyance

Unfazed by the demon-like remark, the lich shook his head

"I'm saying it'll be easier to hide here. After all, we don't know if this world relies on a system of identification like ours. Since this place's governance body seems to be lacking, we can lay low for some time and gather more information on the rest of the world"

"We can even use those guards back then to build our foothold in this city before establishing an information network" He tapped his finger on the wall "The more we connect with the people here, the more our influence grows. That will gain us enough resource for our initial objective..."

"....Finding Nazarick" The lich finished

The place where their guild have experienced its worst and best. Where everyone's memories resided in the form of the unique NPC's — along with their most precious treasures gained from countless raid bosses. The place they had left behind when they found themself in this new world. One might even go as far as to call it their second home

Momonga considered the prospect. He know bringing back the Guild base would increase their power as it is where they store their main items. At the same time, the NPC could be in danger of raiding the longer they are absent.

Ulbert eventually agreed with his plan after seeing no demerits in it. The goat demon is efficient, not cautionless. He certainly know when to best refrain from taking actions for the collective long term benefits

"Good plan so far, but what are we gonna do now?" He looked to the setting sun in the distance "You wasted half a day scouring this place out, then waste some more talking to the guard so now we got nowhere else. FYI, sleeping on the street is a no-no"

"We're a pair of traveller. People like us obviously have to have some place to spend the night" He smile "Let's find lodging"

This has been a tiring day and he'd done his part. Now for some well-deserved rest to keep up morale. That is the mindset of Momonga, leader of Nazarick and average salaryman

Ulbert scoffed

"And how do you plan to pay for that, genius?"

"Obviously with gold co—" Momonga closed his jaw "Shit"

The currency is useless here. That's a fact he had forgotten. They're in a new world with a potentially different working compared to the one they came from

Right now they are two aliens trying to find a way to fit in. What to do if the Yggdrasil gold coins is considered useless? Would they be able to exchange item?

Momonga begin searching for solutions, until his friend placed a hand on his shoulder

"Lucky for you Ulbert the Great Annihilator of Worlds is here to offer assistance" The demon rolled his eyes "I have my way. Just follow me I'll take care of the rest"

The exasperated Ulbert and the sheepish Momonga formed a pair in search of a guesthouse in the middle of this forsaken sea town

Bilgewater at night is filled with muddied workers and citizens whose identity are wrapped in their concealing cloth, some of which eyed them suspiciously as they passed by

Fishermen. Bandit. Pirates. Had they not been wary of trouble, there's no doubt the likes of them would have attempted a robbery

After several hours of searching, they thankfully found a place to stay that wasn't a crackhouse in disguise. Despite Momonga's insistence on being low-profile, his friend was having none of it

"Ulbert, we can't sleep in here!" The lich cried out as he was dragged with one hand toward a brightly lit, decorated lounge

"And why not? Would you prefer those downrodden waterholes they called "love hotel"?" They both shuddered at the dirty memory "I'm not comfortable sharing a bed with you, Momon. We're staying here no matter what you said"

"But this is a sexhouse!" Despite his protest, Momonga followed along. It wasn't like he is bothered by this. He suppose his emotional suppressor helped cut away the excess shame, and whatever that remains is simply remnants of a Japanese's unethically high moral standard

As they reached the reception, the woman there gives a smile

"Greetings, I'm Mary. I see you are new to our town" She politely introduced herself "What service are you looking for?"

"We're booking a room" Momonga said, hastily adding as he saw Ulbert opening his mouth "And no, we don't need anything else. Thank you very much"

"How much is one of your girls?"

Momonga internally screamed upon seeing the woman's eyes lit up

"That'll be 30 coppers for 2 hours with our usual service girls. 6 silvers for an all nighter. Additionally, our top girls who can give you two gentlemen a good time cost 10 to 15 silvers"

The demon made to ponder upon it, before nodding

"Very well, we'll take your finest woman"

Ulbert reached into his cloak, as if to retrieve something. The woman smiled, content as she believed to have her business another good pay.

Only Momonga noticed what happened

[Fool's Gold]

The clacking of heavy metal sounded as he dropped several silver-colored coins onto the tabletop.

"I believe this will suffice?"

"Yes, thank you for your wonderful patronage!" Hastily giving her thank, the receptionist counted the coin with a dazed look in her eyes.

She quickly bowed and gave them their room number before returning inside. Most likely to hide the extra money for herself

The two players watched her walk away with varying level of disappointment

"Human, so easily corruptable by their insignigicant materialism..." The demon count let out a mocking smile "How long do you think we can get away with it?"

Momonga, who is aware of the spell being used, just facepalmed

'Of course, [Fool's Gold]. An elementary spell learned by almost every player who chose the demon race, which tricks low-level NPC into being friendly in the game'

It is a basic lure skill. The lore reason is that demons will use this ability to trick people into thinking something is valuable when actually it is not

Their use is simple but effective. You can swindle merchant by inducing them into mindless state where they only saw what they expect to see, such as gold or jewelry.

This ensure you can rob an entire store's item stock without paying a single coin as long as you cast this upon every purchase, which will reset their innate value counter

Additionally, you can disguise trash items as priceless treasures and sell them to NPC merchants for some big cash. At below lvl 10, it's actually a popular strategy for speedrunner

Some have even went as far as to trick actual players into buying worthless item through a trading glitch in-game. Though the devs did ban him later

"I'm surprised you chose the peaceful solution, rather than just blowing her head off"

"A demon count rules as the peak of elegance, manners, and grace. It would not befit the Ruler of Destruction such as myself to rely on brute force alone"

It was then Momonga remembered they'd just booked a room along with the most luxurious prostitute this building has to offer

"What are you planning to do with the woman?" Given that Ulbert is a heteromorph player, he can't exactly reproduce. So there's no need to satisfy his non-existent libido

Therefore, another conclusion was drawn

"You said you want to establish a foothold in this city. That's a plan I'm willing to follow" The goat demon tip his hat "I just decide on a more efficient way to do it"

Hi

First off, It's not Thien who is writing this. I'm the person in charge of this account. Recently he gave me permission to continue this story. Said it was something of a favorite of his and how much of a pain it would be to let things end this way

So I decided to adopt it with his support. It works, since we're both Overlord fans and Ulbert's character design is a favorite of mine. Sadly I'm not as proficient in League of Legends lore as him, therefore it soon came to a halt since I'm too lazy to learn. Not to mention the constant lore update makes it really hard to keep track of old Canon

Well, I powered through and managed to give it a try. Depends on your feedback I'll decide whether to continue this story or not. See ya!
