♪───O(≧∇≦)O────♪
You drop the nichirin blade to the ground and shuck off your backpack then kneel down next to Gerik. You look over your shoulder just in time to see the last piece of the demon completely turning to dust.
"I'm going to need you to talk to me as much as you can," You try to keep your voice calm and steady, "Don't stop talking. It let's me know you're alive, okay?"
Gerik starts to mumble out what you recognized as a prayer.
You were just supposed to be walking to the village. You were going to meet Miku. But just in case, before you left, you packed up medical supplies in your backpack, and you took your Android and left your iPhone with Sekido.
You were wearing your basic blue uniform (the sleeveless shirt and skirt), your socks, your sandals, you tied your hair half up with your hairpin, and you had Akaza's weird, pink cardigan on as well.
You were just supposed to walk with Gerik back to the village to meet Miku. The path you were taking was the safest, through a covered path of Wisteria trees.
But Gerik insisted on taking a shortcut to the village through the forest, out of the bounds of the Wisteria trees. Despite your constant refusal, you had to follow him when he took a new path.
And of course, whenever you had something great, the Universe had to take something in retribution.
You and Gerik were ambushed. The demon had appeared in the forest and lunged for you. You think it was some pathetic attempt of an assassination by Muzan.
Gerik got his arm consumed by the demon when he pushed you away. You managed to cut off the demon's head. It wasn't a powerful demon at all, maybe recently turned.
But the demon got to Gerik, and it almost completely bit off Gerik's arm by the elbow. You were quick to his aid, leaving the pathetic demon to rot in hell.
You dragged Gerik to a tree that conveniently had a moon spotlight, a little bit away from the disappearing demon.
And now you are back to the present.
"Are you injured anywhere else?" You take out a big bottle of water.
"I..."
"..."
"..."
"Gerik-"
"-No." Gerik heaves, "I just... just my arm..."
"O-Okay." You open your backpack and pull out a big bottle of coconut water.
"I feel nauseous, (Y/n)..."
"I-O-Okay... just..."
With shaky hands, you pulled off Gerik's clown mask so he could breathe easier. You saw blood dribble out from the corner of his mouth, his eyes looked hazy and lost. Your heartbeat was racing in your chest in fear.
You furrow your eyebrows together and pull out a large plastic box and open it to be met with different types of tools.
"(Y/n)... I feel dizzy."
You shut your eyes and count to ten.
"Flex the fingers on your left hand please."
Gerik weakly nods his head, "I-I feel... really dizzy..."
You feel light headed.
Holy fuck.
There's so much...
Blood.
"Are you flexing your left fingers?"
"Yes."
You're going to have to amputate his arm. Gerik's forearm is barely hanging on as it is, his nerves must be severely damaged. You can't even see any usable tissues or veins.
He's bleeding so much.
Your vision is blurring from tears.
There's too much blood.
"Are you allergic to coconut?" You soak your hands in water before putting on plastic gloves.
"...no?"
"Gerik, I'm going to amputate your arm," You have never amputated anything before, "Coconut water can be used for an emergency blood transfusion. You're dizzy because of blood loss."
"My arm?! You're-m-my arm?!"
"Yes, I promise you, it will hurt more if I save your arm."
You have no idea if that's true, you're just trying to calm Gerik down. You're failing miserably, of course.
There was just...
So much blood.
"If I amputate your arm, I might even be able to help you get a prosthetic if I save the nerves in your arm in time."
"Okay-okay-okay!" Gerik nods, "Gods, please just do it fast, (Y/n)!"
Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK!
You pull at the right side of his yukata and bunch it up towards his mouth. His eyes glaze over with un-shed tears as he bite down the cloth.
The bone doesn't seem to be connected at all, the only thing keeping the arm attached were a few veins and some skin at the elbow.
I'll use cutting scissors for the veins and the scalpel for the skin.
With shaky hands, you move around a few surgical instruments to grab the cutting scissors from the box. You poor water on the scissors from the small nasal before shaking the scissors to remove extra water.
You take deep breaths as you clip the veins. Gerik's screams were muffled due to the cloth. You're really hoping he'll pass out from pain.
You're getting nervous.
You drop the bloody scissors in the box before grabbing the scalpel. You grab the water bottle with bloody hands and soak the blade. You slice against Gerik's torn skin, but your grip slips and you accidentally stab into Gerik's arm.
You ignore Gerik's cry and fast breathing to slice off the rest of his arm.
Wrap it! Hurry up and wrap it!
You raked your brain for what you can use for his arm.
You shiver from a gust of wind then silently apologize to Akaza before taking off the cardigan.
You push against the bleeding arm with the cardigan. Pushing and pushing against the wound before tying it.
"It-It-It hurts..." Gerik's voice was weak and quiet, "(Y/n)... I'm... cold..."
"I-I know! I'm sorry-I'm sorry!"
You search through your backpack and take out an empty I.V. bag and a clear tube wrapped up in a plastic bag. You pour the coconut water inside then seal the bag. You take the tube out of its bag and attach it to the bag.
You look around before standing up and placing the bag on a low branch to hang. The tube was long enough to reach Gerik's left arm.
You look through your box and take out your Butterfly needle and the fucking tube to connect the tube to the arm. You never learned what it was actually called.
Luckily for you, the veins in Gerik's arms were always protruding, so it was easy to find a vein to stick the needle into. You struggled to pop the cap off for the water, but you eventually got it and poured some on the area you'll insert the needle.
Looking back into the box, you grab the surgical tape and tear a piece off and stick it to the top of your bloody, gloved hand.
With both hands, you stick the needle into his vein with ease. You removed the syringe and taped down the needle. You then brought the tube over and attached it to the needle in Gerik's arm.
Immediately, the coconut water flows through into the needle and into his body.
"Gerik, I need you to-Gerik?"
You were too focused on not fucking up, you didn't even notice Gerik's breathing.
And...
His blood...
Gerik's eyes were dull and staring wildly at you, confused and anxious. His lips were blue and he was pale, more than usual anyway. He was hyperventilating and his body was cold to the touch, even through your gloves.
"Gerik..."
You can hardly see, tears fell in streams, your body was shivering from the cold, and the strong stench of blood made you nauseous.
"I'm..." Gerik's voice was barely heard through his breathing, "sorry..."
"No. You have nothing to apologize for. You're not-you're not dying."
Your voice was broken as you rip off your gloves and push against the side of his neck for a pulse.
"Gerik!" You cry harder when you find a very, very fast pulse, "Please! You can't-you can't-I-Ah-I-I can't be alone-don't leave me alone-please!"
"I'm sorry, Miku...." Gerik's breath was erratic, "I'm sorry... I couldn't ask her... I couldn't..."
You sit up high on your knees and put your right hand on his chest, then your left hand on top of your right.
You lock your elbows so your arms were ramrod straight; you push against his chest in a steady rhythm hard enough that you can probably crack a few ribs.
You got blood on his yukata, on his neck, on his arms, on yourself.
"No! Please!"
You take a deep breath to calm down but it was too quick so you take another but it was quick again.
"It's not fair!"
Your tears were dampening his yukata as you continued chest compression's.
"IT'S NOT FAIR!!!"
Your throat was begging for a rest but you continue to sob and grieve. Your arms were beginning to cramp up and you're getting uncomfortably cold.
A tiny voice in your head was telling you to keep quiet because you didn't want to attract any more demons.
But you could hardly hear that little voice because an even louder little voice was telling you that Gerik had stopped breathing.
But you could hardly hear that little voice because an even louder little voice was grieving with you.
"GERIK! GERIK, DON'T LEAVE ME!! OH GOD, DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE!!! NO, THIS ISN'T FAIR!!!!"
You weren't expecting an answer. And you knew it was too late. But you sob loudly and continue the useless chest compression's on Gerik.
"(Y/n)...?"
You were surprised to hear that voice, but you couldn't take your eyes off Gerik's corpse.
Because...
Because..........
The moment you look away or stop for even a second, he'll die.
So you continue chest compression's.
"(Y/n)," Akaza calls out to you again and steps closer, "He's gone."
You vigorously shake your head: "No! I-I can still-"
"-(Y/n)."
Akaza gently places a hand on your shoulder.
You stop chest compression's.
"He's gone. I'm sorry."
"No...No, I-I-"
You wail in despair as thoughts race through your mind. You slump forward, laying your head on Gerik's still chest.
"I-I KILLED HIM! I-I KILLED HIM! I-I AHHHHHH!"
Akaza kneels next to you and pulls you up with ease. You hug Akaza immediately and sob to your heart's content.
Anguish and guilt and sorrow poor out in screams and cries and profanities. Akaza held you close, rubbing your arms and back to provide warmth your body was missing.
In truth, Akaza was close to breaking the promise he made to you. Searching for a defenseless man to eat him. And he smelt the blood of a man, a lot of it.
But then he heard you crying.
That was more than enough for him to lose his appetite and to regain himself.
Akaza was glad to see you without a scratch, and truth be told, he didn't care for the human you mourned for. But Akaza cared that you were in pain, and that was enough for him to finally come out of the shadows to comfort you.
"If I just-just worked faster, I-I could've-"
"-No. His injury was too severe. Even a team of the best doctors wouldn't be able to save him," Akaza had no idea if that was true or not, "It's a miracle he survived longer than 5 minutes."
"Oh-God! I-I didn't know what-what I was-I was doing!!" You clutch the fabric of Akaza's new cardigan he was wearing, "I-I was just-I-I was scared! I-I didn't want him to-to die!"
Akaza rests his chin on top of your head: "You did the best you could, (Y/n)."

A/N: No, I didn't just kill Gerik just to kill him, okay? I have plans. They're not good plans but they're plans nonetheless.
Also, I'm not a fucking doctor, alright? I have no fucking idea how to perform an amputation. And I have no fucking idea how to perform an emergency blood transfusion or if coconut water is good for emergency blood transfusions Leave me alone
