AFTER STANDING IN TOTAL shock for less than a minute, Lucas took ahold of a knife and ran towards the two. He then cut down in the middle of the arm of the monster and pulled the witch as they started to run away.
"I thought the candle was supposed to keep the monsters out." Lucas huffed once they were in a locked room.
"Me, too. It was supposed to keep them from getting to you." Lizzie panted out
"Lizzie, it didn't go after me," Lucas replied with narrowed eyes. "It's after you."
The monster began to thud on the door loudly, nearly breaking through. Lucas tried to block the door with his body, since he was the only one in the room he couldn't exactly be easily killed.
Unexpectedly the Nephilim gasped and his eyes turned a light gold.
"Uh, W-what's wrong?" Lizzie stutters out worriedly
The Nephilim's eyes were still gold, and he seemed zoned out. That's when he began to remember the Croatoan and the history behind it.
"Lizzie, what the hell are you hiding?" Lucas exclaimed as he was snapped back to reality.
"W-what are you talking about?" Lizzie said nervously.
"The Croatoan only hunts those who keep secrets. I remember I was there." Lucas explained. "An old witch friend created the monster, and then put my friend in a deep slumber and hid the location from me—That's not the point. What are you hiding?"
Before Lizzie had a chance to come up with some excuse the phone began to ring. The witch answered the phone and was instantly hit with the same news Lucas informed him about.
"Lucas already knows about this! He told me. Do you have anything more useful?" Lizzie says interrupting the Vamp. "How do we kill it?"
"That's working progress."
"Work faster. The damn thing waltzed through my barrier like it was." Lizzie paused before noticing the situation. "Immune—Because only the witch who summoned it can destroy it."
"That's a problem because Cassandra has been dead for over 500 years!" Lucas huffs
That's when the Croatoan broke down the door causing Lucas to fall onto the floor. The Nephilim was stunned but quickly stood up and dragged Lizzie to another room, but not before grabbing the candle.
"This monster is hunting secrets." Lizzie says once they settled down. "not you, so at least it has some taste, unlike my sister."
Lucas furrowed his brows. "You had a crush on me the month I was here."
Lizzie groaned. "You remember that?"
"Yes. But that's not the point! Tell me what secret you're keeping." Lucas says eagerly.
Lizzie stood silent.
"Is it about Hope?" Lucas asks, trying to get an answer out of the witch. "It's about Hope, isn't it?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Lizzie blurts out nervously.
The Croatoan banged on the door roughly, knocking down the barrier candle and breaking it. The two ran towards the werewolf transitions cellars and hid there.
"Well, at least I had an idea." Lizzie huffs
Lucas hummed. "I just had one, too," he says right before placing his finger on Lizzie's temples.
The witch winced. The Nephilim's body sent out small shock waves when he read minds. And that's what Lizzie was now currently experiencing.
"Hope was the one who jumped into the portal?" Lucas says in shock.
Lizzie scoffed. "That is an invasion of privacy!"
"Well someone had to save your god damn life!"
The Croatoan broke through the door and out of panic Lizzie used a spell to the monster flying into a cell.
"Nice work, but that's not gonna hold it long, so just tell me what else you're hiding about Hope," Lucas begs
Lizzie shook her hand. "I can't."
"Why?!"
"It would break Josie's heart," Lizzie replies
"So this is about, Jo?" Lucas asks, still trying to get a word out of her.
"No, it's about all of us."
"Elizabeth, since when have you kept your mouth shut about anything?" Lucas groans. "Just tell me."
"Fine! It's—"
"Silencio."
Lucas's head snapped towards the voice and his eyes fell on Hope who had both Rafael and Landon by his side.
"So this is about you?" Lucas says with a scoff
The Tribrid shot Lizzie a glare.
"What are you two hiding!" Lucas asks desperately.
Hope shook her head. "There's no time. These bars aren't gonna hold. We have to find some way to stop it."
Lizzie began to muffle out things the group was unable to understand since Hope did the spell. Hope sighed before undoing the spell.
"MG is working on it," Lizzie says breathing out heavily. "Also, Lucas used his weird angelic powers and found out you were the one who jumped into the pit."
"It obviously wasn't the big secret you were keeping if the monster is still after you!" Lucas exclaims
Hope sighed. "Okay. One problem at a time. Raf, and Landon, take Lucas to Dr. Saltzman. Lizzie and I will find a way to keep the Croatoan busy."
The two witches walked out of the room quickly.
"Come on, man. You heard her." Rafael says as he motions Lucas to follow him.
The Nephilim sighed before following the two supernaturals out of the room. They ran through the woods as they tried to make their way back to Mystic Falls High. But as they were running they felt a small yet powerful wave hit their body, and they fell onto the floor, unconscious.
Lucas was wakened up by the visions, yet this time they were pieces together. It now had both Lucas and Hope, and words came from their mouths.
"Oh, my god. Oh, my god." Lucas says sitting up, remembering the witch. He then heard small growls and turned around. "Oh god!" he shouted.
Lucas was then pulled away by the monsters, who were holding him by the collar.
"Listen, there's an easier way to get me back home, you know?" Lucas huffs trying to break free from the grip.
"Crescere arbor."
Tree roots grew from the ground, wrapping around the monster's feet making it stay put in its place as it tried to break free. Lucas then took that time to push away from the monster and back up. His eyes fell on Hope, but he had not said a word yet.
"Hope!" Lucas said in an angry demeanor as he stomped towards the Tribrid. "Hope Mikaelson."
"Lucas, come here," Hope says motioning the boy her way.
The Nephilim still hadn't said a word. He was completely zoned out, and he ignored Landon who had now been yelling at the Tribrid. Before Lucas knew it the monster had been completely melted to the floor. A hot only left behind.
"Lucas," Hope says with a small smile.
Lucas's eyes shot towards the witch. He let out a scoff before walking away.
No emotions were running through the boy's body, he felt numb and confused. The memories were still hitting him back slowly, and it only made things scarier for him. Because now he knew that why Penelope had said that night was now coming true.
Lucas made his way towards the dock where he was told Josie was. And they were right. There Josie was sitting down, staring at the water.
"Looks like you're deep in thought," Lucas says walking towards the witch, hands in his pocket.
"More like steeling myself from what I have to tell you," Josie replies softly
The Nephilim took a seat beside the girl scooting close, but not too close.
"So I take it you weren't on a field trip to Richmond?" He asks
Josie nodded with a frown. "Um, I was in New Orleans. I needed to find a witch."
"There's plenty of those around here."
"Um, Mikaelson witch. Hope's aunt." Josie informed him. "I needed answers. I needed a push to do the right thing. Bring back everyone's memories. Hope's family was missing a piece of their life, too. I needed to see that for myself, so I would stop being so selfish."
Lucas scoffed. "You are literally the least selfish person I've ever met. That's nothing I had to remember. 'Cause, it's something I'll never forget."
His heart ached as he saw Josie wiped the tears from her eyes, and as he went into her thoughts it broke his heart, even more, knowing she thinks he no longer loved her.
"Josie I love you. That will never change."
Josie glanced at the boy. "But you do remember her. That changes things, right?"
"I don't know yet. I just need some time. I just—need time." Lucas says softly.
And at that moment, he could hear Josie's heart shatter. Just as he did.
Lucas frowned.
Penelope's words came ringing through his head. He knew he would have to choose between Hope or Josie. And he could only pray he'd make the right choice.
Truth be told he didn't want to hurt either of the two girls.
He loved them both.
