The more you ran away, the more regret you felt.
squeak!!
You gasped before quickly stepping back and looking down at what made the noise.
It was a squirrel. You instantly felt bad for not looking where you step.
You checked if It was injured, to your luck, it wasn't.
You sighed, letting it go before you started running to where you were headed.
You knew what was about to happen, you knew where it was, you knew everything.
After climbing the mountain, you felt exhausted. The [Name] inside of you told you to rest, but the older sibling inside you told you to never show your weakness to anyone. You tried to ignore your cramping leg as you walked into a bloom of wisteria flowers.
It all looked like a dream, It felt like a dream, you closed your eyes as you breathed in the fresh air.
Once again, you were lucky enough to be alone for now- Oh wait...
On the other side of the gloomy place were two boys, around the same age as you.
It wouldn't hurt to talk to them, no?
They both looked really unique, pretty even.
Without knowing, you were staring at them.
"What are you looking at?"The peachy-haired guy asked sternly.
"Sabito, don't be rude!" Said the other one with long hair.
You felt heat rush to your cheeks, snapping back to reality.
"I'm so sorry for staring! I didn't mean disrespect!!" You said worry lacing your voice.
"Don't worry, just don't do it again." 'Sabito' replied.
"Ahh, so... Do you want to be a team? I think It's great if combine our strength!"
"Which breathing technique do use? If you even use one." He asked, but who can blame him? Who wants a weak person on their team.
"Sun breathing technique! It runs in the family." You told him proudly.
"You can join our team." They both said nonchalantly without hesitation.
You smiled even wider, finally some company!

After some time of chitchatting, time flew by really fast and it was crowded.
There were two little kids in the front explaining the expected.
you already knew how this is about to go.
"Ready?"
"Ready."

DAY 1 OUT OF 7⩥
"I was thinking we could go east," You told them.
"Yeah, I was about to say that."
You didn't think anything much of them, they were really nice boys and you were glad you had teamed up with them.
Sabito was quite the talkative one, and the one to talk about power.
"When we get out of this place, we could work our way to the hashira rank!" He said.
Tomioka on the other side was very quiet. He only spoke when spoken to.
But he did get less cold the more Sabito spoke to you which was great.
"I see you guys know each other quite well," You said, to which Sabito replied with:
"We both trained together under the same master."
"What about you, [Name}? You barely said anything about yourself." Tomioka interrupted.
It kind of surprised you since he was very silent, but you didn't mind.
"Oh well... Where do I start?"
"Well, let us ask some questions," Sabito requested.
"Sure.."
"What made you want to become a demon slayer?" Giyuu asked, he's being quite vocal now.
"I wanted to prove my strength to someone important."
"And who is that?" Sabito questioned further.
"Ah, well, my father..."
The atmosphere became quite awkward.
"Let's just keep walking to the east."
They both nodded in agreement.
It soon became dark and all of you stopped talking and paid more attention to your surroundings.
It's so dark and misty...
"We have to stick together or we'll lose each other in this mist!" Sabito called out.
"I agree, we need to stay close," Was you reply.
All Sabito did was tsk at you.
This is going to be a long night.
DAY 3 OUT OF 7⩥
It's been 3 days. 4 days more and you'll finally get more recognition- And become a demon slayer too.
It's been really hard having a sharp eye in this fog.
All of you together encountered 17 demons by now.
"You kept count?" Giyuu deadpanned at you.
"That's not enough though, and the demons we met weren't even that strong. If you really want to prove your strength, we need to find more strong demons!"
"You're right. Now quiet, we can't pay attention to our surroundings if we keep talking."
crunch!
All three of you looked in the direction of where that noise came from.
"Try taking me on then! Oh how I love it when little brats are feisty, they are the most delicious ones!" A disgusting voice roared through.
You all pulled your katanas out of your sheath and attacked without hesitation.
'Sun breathing technique; Setting Sun Transformation'
You breathed in, aiming at its neck.
The other two did the same.
Before the demon could utter another word all of your attacks hit him. Giyuu's attack hit its shoulder, Sabito hit its eye and your attack cut its neck open.
It was a gruesome scene, but you had to do it otherwise all of you would die.
Giyuu quickly jumped behind and cut its head off completely.
It fell to the ground and after some time not even ashes were left.
"He sure was humbled," Giyuu noted.
"Yeah, let's go check out there, maybe we'll find something more."
"You sure? Maybe we should get some rest." Giyuu's tone seemed a bit worried now.
"You guys can stay here, I'm gonna come back, don't worry!"
They both seemed uncertain, doubting your strenght.
"Okay, good luck!"
"See you later,"
You smiled at them before heading into the darkness of the forest.
DAY 5 OUT OF 7⩥
You regret everything at this point.
Demons wouldn't stop coming up, your body was already completely tired and bruised.
Your eyes were on the verge of closing out of exhaustion.
You were already sure that Giyuu and Sabito either forgot about you or they lost you.
You had to get out of here, but you couldn't. You didn't want to risk it, they might follow you and that wouldn't be so fun.
'Second form: Clear Blue Sky!'
You screamed in your head, when will this hell truly end?
Your blade glowed with its flame, ready to slice the demon's head off.
You quickly looked around yourself, checking if there were any more of them. You felt drowsy, your eyes felt like they were going to close any second now. Your anguish was soon gone after seeing the fog disappear and the sun appear. The only thing you could think was rest, so you found a comfortable spot near a tree and let sleep consume you.
DAY 7 OUT OF 7⩥
The sixth day was rather boring, the demons who were trying to intimidate you were quickly shut up by your firey blade. Of course, that's not the only thing you were doing the whole night, you were also looking for your fellow friends. You tried going back to the place where you last saw each other. You never expected them to be there, but you did expect there to be some leads as to where they are.
The dirt was quite wet, so you could see their footprints.
They led to the place where you went off to, and of course, you went there.
Even if you guys knew each other for very little time, you trusted them and wanted them to come back home to their master safely.
Who knew, maybe you could even see them from there, I mean, your eyes are the sharpest from what you've heard. You will never forget how much you were complimented in the village you helped with.
You thanked the gods for clearing out the fog that used to be in your way.
You stopped in your tracks when you heard a loud thump. It was a footstep. But who caused it? Your eyes scanned the place and they met with something huge. A huge mutant demon. Your legs were paralyzed. You couldn't move an inch until you saw the said demon throw something against a tree. Or, someone.
'Giyuu?!?' You gasped in shock, you didn't think twice before running towards the scene.
You almost face-planted to the floor, but you didn't stop. You stopped quickly to prevent yourself from hitting a tree.
"Giyuu!! Are you okay??" You yelled, which was a bad idea. But the most important thing going through your mind is to check if Giyuu is all right. He didn't budge, but he was still breathing and the worst thing that could've happened was a concussion. He was obviously unconscious so you thought about dealing with him later. You have to get rid of that demon immediately.
But the familiar peach-haired boy beat you to it. You didn't scream, you knew better than to interrupt him. Both Sabito and Giyuu looked quite bruised up. You wondered how long they've been fighting.
You were in front of Giyuu like some sort of shield.
Sabito went straight to the neck, but plans today were not going as planned.
He jumped up, but one of the demon's hands sprung up, aiming for his head.
It seemed like everything went in slow motion.
His eyes widened, he knew he couldn't get himself out of this one.
You called out for him, but the poor kid's skull has been completely crushed. Blood squirted everywhere, you could see some bits of his brain poking out and the worst of all was the sound of his skull cracking.
You wanted to puke. You quickly put your hands over your mouth. The disgusting being itself chuckled in delight.
Before he could actually eat your now dead friend, the sun was coming up. The mutant demon dropped his blood-stained body to the ground and rushed into the shadows.
You screamed so harshly after the demon, you thought you lost your voice.
Your eyes were full of tears, the scene kept playing through your mind. You ran towards his beat-up body. Blood kept pouring out of his now crushed head. The whole scenery made you paralyzed, and you blamed everything on yourself.
If it weren't for your selfish desires, you could've helped them defeat that thing.
Just thinking about the demon's ugly laughter made your fists clench.
You despised it. You wanted it to suffer the most painful death. You had no mercy against it.
You looked back at your unconscious friend, he was still knocked out, completely oblivious as to what happened. Will he remember what happened before he blacked out, will he forget the fact that he even went to the selection? You did not know.
You saw human figures running in your direction, in that moment, you realized how exhausted your body was. You fell to the ground, still next to Sabito. You felt utterly useless. You didn't do anything right, you were only here for your own selfish desires. You will never deserve to be called a demon slayer. Ever.
You could hear faint gasps and screams in surprise, but after that, you were completely sound asleep.
