After Ace's desk and computer are set up in what is now 'our' office, we both stay quiet, focusing on our work. I start to send a few emails and take a few phone calls. The only thing on the TV was news about Ace 'being back from the dead' and we both were tired of it. So many people were calling and emailing me, asking how we were doing. How they were shocked by the news...
Ace spent the day looking through all the files and everything Anderson Tech has done since he's been gone.
I got a message from David and realized it was 7pm. He texted me asking if I was ready to go for dinner then home. I replied saying yes and I logged out of my computer. Ace had left to do something so I wasn't sure where he was but he's probably going to leave soon too. Grabbing my things, I leave my office and I see David standing near the elevators.
"I'm so tired and hungry" I say walking to him with a yawn
"Me too" he answers
We enter the elevator and press the lobby button. When we reached the main floor, we got out and noticed there was still a crowd of paparazzi outside the building. I turn and see Ace come out of the other elevator and walk towards us.
"David" Ace greets and then looks at me
"Alex, you're coming with me" he says as an order
I look at Ace confused, "Uh.. no I'm not. I'm going with David, we have plans" I answer
Ace looks at me sternly and David puts his hand on my back
"Okay then. Alex, I'll drive you back to the apartment-" David tries to finish saying before Ace interrupts him
"No need" he simply says
David walks up to Ace
"It's not enough you ruined her life, now you want to control it too?" he says harshly up in Ace's face
I notice Ace starts to clench his fists, but holds himself together. Lowering his head to meet David's gaze, he tries to say as calmly as possible:
"No. It would just seem more appropriate to the media if my wife left the building with me!" he spits out angrily
"Well your wife can simply leave through the back" I say with a sarcastic smile
I notice the strong tension between the two
"David don't worry, we'll just grab dinner another day. Thank you though" I say to him slightly annoyed with Ace's attitude
I just wanted them to stop this and I knew there was no winning with Ace. David nods at me and I give him a small hug. Ace grabs my arm and we walk towards the door, into the blinding flashes of light.
As soon as we get outside, the media starts to go crazy and people start yelling, asking questions again. Security pushes them back and we manage to get to the black SUV parked at the front. We both get into the back and the driver starts to drive off.
"Please drop me off at 335 cortland ave" I say giving the driver the penthouse address
"No, Jerry, straight to the mansion" Ace tells the driver, ignoring my request
This makes me very angry
"Ace, if you don't take me to the penthouse, I'm getting out of this car right now" I said furious and threaten to open the car door
He pulls my arm "No, Alex stop this nonsense, your coming back to the mansion" he says sternly
My blood is boiling and I just snap. Not even thinking straight, I yank my arm away and open the door while the car is driving in the busy streets of New York City. My upper body hangs out of the car as the strong winds pull the car door fully open and pull me along. Ace yells at the driver to stop who pushes onto the breaks. He immediately grabs my waist making sure I don't fall out onto the street. The car stops and he pulls my body back into the car and closes the door. Was I insane? Yes. Could I have died? Maybe. But I didn't care, I was just tired of him bossing me around today. I was hurt from everything that had happened, and I didn't need this bossing around to add onto the pain.
Cars honking from us behind, Ace turns to me out of breath with a worried face
"Your fucking crazy! Fine, the penthouse!" Ace yells
Ace starts to mumble under his breath. I don't say anything, but just sit there the whole ride back to the penthouse.
We reached the building and there were paparazzi here too!
"Sir, I think it's best if you go down with her, just until the paparazzi leave. You can call me to pick you up, I won't be far" the driver says to Ace
Ace turns to me and I nod my head, not looking him in the eyes
We both get out of the car and push our way through the paparazzi, and into the building. Getting into the elevator, I press the PH floor and scan the house key. We reach the floor and the elevator opens to the apartment. We walk in and I plop onto the couch, letting out a sigh.
Ace turns on the TV and the first thing we see is footage of us walking into the building just moments ago, it was already on the media.
He lets out a puff of air and says "It will die down soon"
I get up and walk to the kitchen, looking through the fridge trying to find something to eat
The fridge was stocked up with food... that's weird, there was nothing when I left.
Ace enters and takes a seat on a stool at the kitchen island.
"I had Molly stop by and bring groceries" he says not prying his eyes away from his phone
Molly.... How I missed her.
I take out a pot and find pasta in one of the cupboards. I pour some hot water and let the pasta boil. I grab some tomato sauce and some mushrooms from the fridge. I cook the sauce and when the pasta is ready, I pour the penne into the sauce and let it sit for a few minutes.
I pull out two bowls and then I see a few bottles of wine on the wine rack to my right. I decide to take a bottle and grab two glasses. I pour some wine and place the glasses onto the kitchen island. I then pour pasta into the two bowls and place one in front of Ace who was still on his phone.
He looks at the bowl and goes back to his phone
"I'm good, thanks" he says pushing the bowl back to me
"You eat or you leave" I say pointing to the elevator
He meets my gaze and gives in, pulling the bowl back to him. I sit in the seat in front of him and start eating. I internally moaned from how good food was.
"Someones hungry" he says with a smile
....maybe my moan wasn't internally
"Well you ruined my dinner plans with David, and I'm starving" I say, shoving my face with more food
He puts his fork down, slightly annoyed at the mention of David.
"It's not exactly the right time to be going on dates now is it Alexandra?" he says
Date...? Who the hell said anything about going on a date. I don't bother clearing the air. He can think whatever he wants
We continue eating in silence and I gulp down my wine. I put my glass down and then my phone vibrates. It was near Ace, he looked at the lit up screen and it was a text message from David. The expression on his face immediately changed, and I quickly grabbed my phone.
David: Hey, just wanted to know if you got home safe
I pour myself some more wine and gulp down the glass
The alcohol hits me and my head starts to pound. I don't drink often, I don't really like alcohol and I'm a lightweight. I would occasionally have a glass of wine or champagne but even that, I get dizzy and feel sick sometimes. Yet here I was, gulping down glasses.
"I want a car." I randomly say
Ace is taken back by this random request but doesn't hesitate to reply fast "Of course, I'll have someone bring you one first thing tomorrow morning" Ace says
"The white Tesla" I clarify
"No problem"
"Actually, I want the Porsche" I say with a smile
"You can have both" he says getting up, taking his bowl to the sink
He turns on the water and starts to wash the dishes
I sit there, pouring myself some more wine, drinking as I just think. I looked at Ace who was washing the dishes, his white dress shirt sleeves rolled up and his back muscles were visible through his shirt. He looked so hot. Memories from a couple weeks ago, not even, when he pushed me against the kitchen counter back at the mansion, when he was still Liam.... Kissing down my neck, running my fingers down his toned stomach, his kiss, his touch, I shiver at the thought.
A few moments later, I take the wine bottle, pouring some more wine but the bottle is then taken away from me
I look at Ace who took the bottle out of my hands
"That's enough wine for you" he says, turning around and placing the bottle on the counter
"I better get going, It's getting late. Do you need anything before I go?" he asks grabbing his jacket and phone
I nod my head, and just look at him, not prying my eyes away from his
"Alright then" he says and turns to leave
"Wait" I whisper, grabbing his arm and he turns to me
I place my hand on his cheek and just study his face
What I wanted to say was stay with me. Hug me. I want to kiss you, love you, cuddle with you, smile with you, laugh with you. But my heart was in pain. Looking at his face, all I felt was pain. So instead, I said "go"
He pushes a strand of hair behind my ear and I close my eyes, leaning into his touch. I feel tears start to form but I push them back. No crying. Stay strong. I push his hand away and open my eyes
He gives me one last look and turns around and enters the elevator. The doors close and I walk to my bedroom. Getting into the bathroom, I decide to take a quick bath and change into my PJs. After I brush my teeth, I get into my bed and grab my laptop and watch a bit of Netflix to clear my head. After watching 2 episodes, I get a text.
I look at my phone and see Liam's name
Liam: I'll pick you up tomorrow morning for work
Before I answer him, I change his contact name to Ace
Me: ...It's literally a 5 min walk
Ace: Be ready for 9am
I smile and nod my head at this man's stubbornness. No care for what I think or say...
Me: Fine but only tomorrow. Then I want my car delivered..
Ace: deal.
I set an alarm for tomorrow morning and put my phone on the nightstand. I got through today, now the goal is to get through tomorrow. One day at a time. I get into the sheets and close my eyes, going into a deep sleep.
