"Miss me?" you scoffed
"Like our friendship" you watched him awkwardly stand while he ran his hand through his hair
"Spencer please don't" you made your way over to the edge of the bed. Brushing past Spencer
No matter how much you wanted to hate him you couldn't. You knew he could hurt you a million times and you would still forgive him
"Don't what?"
"You keep doing this little dance and I'm sick of it. I am so sick of it because I know I will forgive you every time and it's not fair" you swallowed the lump in your throat "You always treat me like shit and then somehow I forget about it and suddenly we're friends and then suddenly were not"
"Y/n-"
"No six months ago you left me high and dry in my room all alone. I knew that night was a mistake but you didn't even let me talk. I wanted to forget about it and keep having our late night talks or our movie nights but you just told me to give you space and only act professional. Now you come in here deciding for me again." your feet were heavy as you opened the door of your hotel room "Leave"
He didn't say another word and walked out of your room. Deep inside you were hoping he would've refused to leave just like you did months ago. But instead he listened and left. You were leaning against the door holding back your tears hoping he would come back.
Your heart began to race when you heard the knock at your door. You turned around and opened the door
"Hey Sp-... Emily hey" you felt empty again
Pushing that aside you took a look at Emily. She was shaking. There were tears streaming down her face. Her eyes were red and puffy.
"Emily come in" she slowly dragged herself inside you closed the door behind her
She turned to look at you. All you could hear were her hiccups and uneasy breathing. She was trying to speak but no words came out.
"Em come here" you pulled her into a tight hug. Slowly walking her over to you bed so she could sit
"I-.. she... I-" she sobbed into your shoulder
"Shhh" you stroked her hair and held her close as if she could slip away at any moment "You don't have to say anything right now"
You stood up and bent down to take off her shoes. When you got up you helped her lay back and get into the covers. You made sure the door was locked and made your way to sit next to her. She sat up a little bit and leaned into you. You wrapped your arms around her and held her tight.
"Aubrey said she loved me before I came to work today" she finally managed to get her words out
Emily had finally gone out on a date after JJ announced that Will was finally moving to Virginia. We met Aubrey after two months of Emily not giving away any details on who she was. Knowing Penelope would track her down and be nosey. Aubrey was a nice young girl also from New York, so both of you got along nicely, she was about the same height as Emily. Slim and toned. Dirty blonde hair with a beautiful set of blue eyes and a perfect smile. You could see her resemblance to JJ very clearly. But you decided no to comment on it and let her be happy.
"And you still love JJ" you said it as a fact more than a question
"I want to say it back, I really do" her cries were softer and her breathing was relaxed
"I love you is a pretty big step" you sigh
"I don't want to end things with Aubrey but this is a really big step towards commitment" she sniffled
"Em you know JJ will always have a piece of your heart and it's okay. If you aren't ready to move on to the next step with Aubrey then tell her" you lifted her chin with your fingers "You are such an amazing woman and if she sees what I see then she will wait for you"
She finally had a smile on her lips.
"Y/n did I ever tell you that you are an amazing friend"
"You don't have to I know I'm amazing" you giggled
She nudged you.
"Can I stay here" she nuzzled herself into your chest
"Of course" you stroked her hair until she fell asleep
But you couldn't doze off with Spencer still in your thoughts
...
"What the hell is going on" Morgan came to you as you were putting on your bulletproof vest
"I don't know Garcia is trying to get audio from inside now" you tied your hair back into a ponytail walking over to Hotch
"Why the sudden change in M.O this was never supposed to happen" Emily walked up a couple of steps behind you
It had been a couple of days since the last case and now everyone was in Los Angeles. Spencer and JJ were being held hostage by the unsub along with two civilians. Everyone was set up outside surrounded by swat, local police and unfortunately the local media. The only keeping you sane was the live video footage. Spencer and JJ were tied up. Spencer was on the floor, JJ was standing and the unsub was waving his gun around, assuming that he was yelling and growing angrier by the second. The other hostage was barley moving on the floor.
"We should've seen this coming" Derek shook his head
"Our profiles aren't always 100% reliable. We couldn't have seen this coming either way" you rubbed his shoulder
"Sir" you heard Penelope's voice come from the small screen sitting on top of the hood of the car "I've got the audio"
"Alright Garica I want you to keep looking for a way in and see if the unsub shows up in vicap. Emily and Rossi I want you guys to go to the back entrance and wait for my call to go in. Y/n and Morgan stay with me to listen"
Everyone nodded and went to work. The three of you were watching the small screen and the conversation that was going on inside.
"Truth or Dare" the unsub had a slight accent
"Truth" JJ kept a straight face and a steady tone
You looked closer and saw Reid fidgeting
Come on stay still he could kill you
"If I think your lying or stretching the truth in the slightest I'll kill him" he lifted his gun towards Spencer and stared JJ in the face
This guy wasn't going down easily and there was no way anyone could talk him down
All JJ could do was look down slightly and nod
"You ever shoot anybody before?"
"Come on Hotch where is this going" Derek threw his hands in the air
Hotch hushed him and focused back onto the feed
"Yes I have"
"You enjoy it?" he had a grin on his face
She shook her head "No"
He slowly turned and walked slowly away from her before turning around and shooting at Spencer yelling "Liar"
You gasped holding your hands to your mouth. Your heart dropped to your stomach quickly regretting kicking him out of your room. He missed Spencer but you were terrified of what the next move was going to be.
JJ flinched "No no no- I'm not lying, okay I'm not lying, the people I shot I had no choice but I did not enjoy it"
JJ continued talking but you couldn't hear anymore. All you could hear was you heart beating out of your chest. The red and blue flashing lights. The cool air hitting your face. You took a deep breath and began to listen again
"Truth" JJ spoke again
"I want you to say something your afraid to say, that you would never tell anybody and you better make it good" his hand starting shaking out of anger "cause if it's not it's the last thing you'll ever say"
"There are only four people I trust in this world" her head was down and she was shaking
"Boring" he turned and shot the women next to him
"Alright Morgan let's get in position with Emily, Jones stay here" Hotch unholstered his gun and ran
You began to chew on your fingernail and turned back to the screen
JJ was on the verge of tears "My baby...I lost -I ..um I wanted to name her Maggie"
JJ was pregnant?
"Wrong come on you can do better than that" Garcia had a name... Cassie
And Cassie was an idiot for thinking that JJ's baby wasn't important. Your heart broke a little more . This was your family and every time they hurt. You hurt
"Cassie" Spencer spoke but Cassie pointed his gun at him to shut him up
He ran over to JJ and forced her to the ground.
"Hotch are you in position" you spoke into your mic
"Yes" you heard back
You continued listening
"Your deepest darkest secret, impress me or I kill him" Cassie kept his gun pointed at JJ
There was no way he could let them go. All JJ could do was stall
"Hotch if your planning something over there I'm hoping you do it faster"
"Copy that" you heard back
"Spence um-" her voice was low just above a whisper
Spencer kept fidgeting with something behind his back but you couldn't tell
"I've always loved you"
Your stomach churned
"And I was just too scared to say it before and now things are just really too complicated" her voice was cracking
Yeah your boyfriend left his home for you and my best friend is in love with you... yea pretty complicated
You felt a tear go down you cheek. This hurt. You didn't know why but it hurt
Spencer's face seemed lost and sympathetic
"I'm sorry but you should know" she let out
Spencer gave her a soft smile
"Hot damn now that's what I'm talking about now those are some last words right there, but no good enough to save your life" Cassie waved his gun around
"Oh god he's going to shoot" you whispered to yourself and shut your eyes tightly
You heard the shot coming from inside the building. You opened your eyes and saw that Spencer had a gun in his hands. Cassie was on the floor. You watched him lift JJ up and help take the tape off her hands. You watched them admire each other when she turned around. It hurt but they were alive.
You turned around and saw Spencer exit the building. You ran up to him
"Spence" you wrapped your arms around him. You felt him hesitate but he wrapped his arms around your waist. You pulled away slowly
"Your bleeding" you held his hand out
"I had to get us out of there one way or the other" he lightly smiled
Both of you walked over to the ambulance and watched Emily hold JJ. You had to tell Emily about what JJ said. Right? But was it even your place?
"I'm sorry about kicking you out of my hotel room the other day" you looked up and saw that he wasn't paying attention. He was looking at JJ
Why wouldn't he. They just shared a near death experience and she just confessed her love for him. What was worse is that you knew about their little date years ago. Maybe he loved her too. You internally laughed at yourself.
"Sorry what was that" he looked back at you
"Nothing" you simply walked away
