~Chapter One~ Alarm Clock

Start from the beginning

So I picked up my white brush began to comb it through my hair. I always started from the tips of my hair and combed up to the top of my head, but after one stroke, it had already gotten stuck.

"Darn thing." I complained and pulled onto the brush with one hand. That didn't work. I tried two hands on the brush and pulled. "Ow, ow, ow!" That wasn't smart. I realized that I sounded like a monkey, so instead of just pulling my brush from my head, I removed the strands of hair tangling the comb and then softly detached the brush off of my soar head. Thankfully it came out, but left that section of my hair sticking out like I've been electrocuted. I then got the brush which had tuffs of my hair stuck in its bristles wet and combed the static hair. After a while, my hair was finally soft and not frizzy, smooth and not ratty, wet, but not crazy.

I looked down at the floor to see Chip still sitting by my feet. I picked him up and scratched behind his ears.

"You want to do something exciting today?" I asked my dog. This week was spring break for my school so I got a whole week without teachers, homework, or crazy people. Then again, I lived with my sister who was beyond crazy.

Since Chip is just a little dog, he cannot speak English, but he still had his own ways of communicating with me. When he tried responding to my question, he licked my face with his little pink tongue. I assumed he meant, "Yes, we should do something exciting today." I wasn't quit sure on what that "something exciting" would be. I had no ideas for what to do that could entertain someone like me.

I shrugged and then went back into my room while still holding my little dog. I bent down to pick up my alarm clock and put Chip onto the ground. The alarm clock went back onto my dresser next to my bed. The clock was cordless, so I didn't have to plug it again or anything, but I did have to set it so the clock would never go off again. Normally, I actually never use it because I can get myself out of bed without having someone or something else doing it for me.

"If I plan on doing something today, which I'm not sure what, I should get dressed." I said to myself, although Chip was listening to every word I said so I was kind of talking to him. Some people, including my best friend, found it odd that I talked to myself. I sometimes found it odd as well, but a teacher said that it was a sign of great intelligence. I don't find myself very smart though. I normally had a B or C in my classes, except for Ceramics and Robotics. Not many schools offer these electives, but I was lucky enough to get into a school that did.

After talking to myself, I went to my closet to change into something else other than my sweats and t-shirt. My closet had two sliding doors which were painted blue to match my bed. The blinds covering my window, which were still closed, were pink. Blue and pink was the theme of my room because I liked those colors so much.

I opened one of the two doors to see my closet almost completely empty. Yesterday, my closet was full. The only outfit that was left was what I decided to wear. I wore long blue jeans and a simple red shirt. I noticed that Chip wasn't in the room after I got dressed. It didn't matter though.

I then slipped on my favorite necklace which was long and had a crystal hanging off of it. It was a gift to me from my grandma when I was 6. She said it was magical, and at that age, I believed her. Now I knew that it was just a crystal on a chain, but I still loved it and found it very special.

After I slipped my head through the necklace, I held the charm in my hand. I looked down at it and sighed. That necklace was a lot to me. I don't know what I would do without it.

"Ruby!! Hurry up!" It was my mom. I looked up from the necklace and turned to face the door. I then looked at Chip who came back into my room, as if my mom made him come to fetch me.. His head lifted up and his chocolate eyes gazed right at me. I shrugged and went outside of my room, wondering what my mom needed me for. Chip followed behind me.
