Chapter 1
Kiki is a 17 year old girl that lives in California with her parents, her summer holiday is coming to an end and she is very excited to be going back to school.
"How are you feeling about going back to school tommorow Kiki?" Asked her mother.
Kiki bursts with excitement. She is especially excited to see her boyfriend Jack. Jack unfortunately has cancer, but Kiki is trying her best to stay positive for him as she loves him very much.
"I feel really excited, it's going to be amazing to see Jack, not being able to see him that much during the summer was absolutely killing me." Kiki yawns, she looks at the time and realizes that she should probably get some sleep.
"How is it 11 already? I should go to bed, goodnight!" Kiki waves to her mom and dad, they both say goodnight back to her. Kiki is making her way up to her bedroom, then a sudden thought hits her, a very rushing feeling of anxiety. It was revealed a few weeks ago that Jack only had 3 months left to live, Kiki has had alot of anxiety attacks since hearing about this but she does not want Jack to know as she wants to stay strong for him. She tries to calm herself down by taking deep breaths and clearing her mind. She reaches her bed and very slowly drifts off to sleep.
The next morning, she woke up. She felt much better and quickly got dressed, brushed her hair and rushed out the door feeling so pumped to see Jack. Kiki's school is a 15 minute walk from her house, as she is walking, she receives a text from Jack. The text message says "Good morning babe, I cannot wait to see you today, I have missed you so much." Kiki can't help but smile, she eagerly texts back. She replies with "I have missed you too baby, I'm so excited."
When she got to school, standing infront of the doors was Jack, he smiled brightly at her. She beams at him and runs up to him and they hug. "Normally summer is great but that summer killed me, I couldn't stop missing you." Jack said softly to her. "I felt the exact same Jack." The bell rang and they had to both go to their separate classes but they will see eachother at lunch anyways.
Kiki had art class first, she entered the class to see Rachel, who she isn't close with but is a person that she likes to socialise with. "Hello Kiki, it's good to see you again!" Kiki goes to sit next to her. "How are you, and also how are you and Jack?" Rachel has always been so supportive and everytime they are in art together, she is there for Kiki and listens to everything she wants to get off her chest.
"I'm okay thanks, me and Jack are great, it was such an amazing feeling, seeing him today." Rachel smiles as she picks up her paint brush.
"Aww that's amazing. Wish I could see Tina, I crave affection so much and I would honestly do anything to kiss her right now." Rachel starts painting but then notices that Kiki is not doing anything and seems to have a nervous look on her face. "What's wrong Kiki?"
Kiki looks at her, closes her eyes for a second to try to feel calmer. "Jack is like...he's...going to die soon." Her voice is cracking, she tears up but is fighting back the tears. Without hesitation, Rachel drops her paintbrush and hugs her.
"I.. I am so sorry Kiki, I can't imagine." Kiki sheds a tear from her eye. "Do you want me to take you to the counciler at break?" Rachel suggests.
Kiki wipes her face. "It's okay Rachel, but thank you. I think I'm just gonna start painting now."
At lunch, Kiki went to the cafeteria. She saw Jack sat on the back table and went over to him. She sat down opposite him. "Hi babe, how has your day been so far?" He asks her.
"Its been alright. Talked to Rachel in art quite alot today. What about yours?" Jack takes a bite of his sandwich.
"Well, the only thing good about today is you. Never thought the classes would be this boring on the first day." Kiki giggles. Jack smiles at her. Kiki then looks down at the table.
"Are you okay, you seem a bit down." Kiki immediately springs up and puts on a smile.
"I'm okay, I think I'm just tired." Jack nods and takes a sip out of his can of coke. Jack then smiles as if he has a good idea. Kiki looks at him in confusion.
"How do you feel about skipping math?" He asked.
"That sounds good. Where do you wanna go?" Jack is thinking hard and then it suddenly came to him.
"We can go to the movies! Don't worry, it's all on me." Kiki blushed, she liked the sound of that idea.
"I'll feel bad about you paying for everything though." Jack laughed.
"It's okay Kiki. I'm more than happy."
Around 25 minutes later, they were arrived at the movies, all of a sudden Kiki had a panicked look on her face. "Jack we gotta get out of here." He then felt panicked too and agreed. Kiki's mom and dad were what looks like buying popcorn. As soon as Kiki and Jack made their way out, her parents spotted them. Both of them looked disappointed.
"Kiki, you should be at school!" Her dad exclaimed. Kiki looked down and Jack could not help but go red in embarrassment.
"I can't believe that this had to happen on the first day. Your dad and I were going to see a movie, but we are going to have to go later as we are taking you and Jack home, and you are also grounded."
It was an awkward ride home. Her mother was still looking furious while driving back. They arrived at Jack's house. "Thank you for the lift. Goodbye babe." He kisses Kiki on the cheek and steps out of the car.
When Kiki and her parents got home, her parents still could not let the whole situation go, until Kiki finally snapped. "Can you give me a break, please?! I understand that it was the first day back, but these past few weeks have been so hard! Jack is going to die, he really does not have long left.. and he needs to have fun. Infact, there is no point for him to go to school anyway.." Kiki breaks down in tears. Her mom and dad look at eachother. They approach Kiki and hold her tight.
