As ordered by Queen Charlotte, Marie left the dining room. The two butlers, Hans and Finsford, followed her out; but the trio soon went their separate ways in just a matter of seconds. This left Marie alone with her thoughts. She stared at her feet aimlessly as she moved forward with no clear destination in mind.
She gripped her dress, her hands shaking a bit.
What's going on suddenly? Marie gulped and her heart dropped to the bottom of her feet.
What's wrong with me?
"Adrian Ares." She recalled Charlotte saying to Leo. He was the man whom the Silver Prince was arranged to marry. Whenever that thought crossed her mind, her heart sunk deeper.
Prince Leopold...he'll be marrying someone soon.
But Marie knew this already. She knew — she knew that at some point the day would come when Leo'd have to have an arranged marriage. Of course, this wasn't exactly how she imagined it...but the scene did run through her mind a few times. It'd probably be in the morning, she thought. Prince Leopold would wear something nice, as he always does, and Queen Charlotte would be so happy to deliver the good news...! And Marie...she'd bow earnestly and congratulate him. 'I'm happy for you,' she'd say with a small smile. Her lips quivered.
Why do I even care, she wondered. This is Prince Leopold we're talking about! He's like the sun. Too far from your grasp Marie. So why — why —
"Why are you crying Marie?"
Marie jumped back. The red carpet beneath her feet drove up because of the sudden movement and she was just about to hit the ground —
What...
"...You're okay. I got you."
What are you doing there?
"Are you hurt anywhere? Let me see."
Leopold...why are you always there?
"Does it hurts that badly? Why are your tears overflowing Marie? Tell me."
Please stop...
"I- I'm fine! I think I was just really overwhelmed all of a sudden." Marie mustered up an excuse, while wiping away her tears.
"I don't believe you."
"P- p- please b- believe me! A- also, thank you for catching me...yo- you can let go of me now, My Prince."
Leo released his hold on Marie and she went to stand a bit away from him.
Marie cleared her throat.
