Start from the beginning

"Ify" I cautioned.

"Ah ahn with Jide abi" my mother asked.

"How did you know that?" I asked.

"Because he's waiting for you in the living room and shebi he's your boyfriend he's supposed to take you out today" she replied. I had forgotten Jide and I played pretend boyfriend, it seemed so long ago.

"Mummy hope you didn't bombard that man with questions?"

"Ah ahn what do you mean by that? I can't have a conversation with my son in law again"

"You see mummy you see, this is what I'm talking about. He's not your son in-law" I stated.

She opened her mouth to speak again but I interrupted her " I'm going to meet him" I left the room, walking towards the living room.

Jide was in a black tuxedo, looking dazzling as usual but something was off about him, he kept tapping his feet and touching his neck, he looked tense.

"Hey" I called.

He turned around to respond and immediately paused when his eyes met me.

He stayed with his eyes fixated on me, his gaze was beginning to burn me but in a good ticklish way. His stare made me school girl shy. I started playing with my fingers and adjusting my dress.

"Jide" I called.

"I'm s s sorry. You lo... Look beau" he stuttered. Yes, he was tense.

I giggled, he giggled too.

"I'm so sorry you look really nice" he complimented and I smiled.

"You look really nice too"

"Ireti, your purse" Ifeoma interrupted us.

"Ooh I see Miss Agu is here" he said.

"Good evening sir" ifeoma greeted him.

"Evening"

"Jide pls you people should not stay out late o" my mummy requested.

"Yes ma" he bowed his head slightly.

"Shall we" he turned to me.

I strolled to the door as he followed me behind with his left hand on my back tickling me on the inside while Ifeoma and my mother watched like parents watching their daughter leave for prom.

Jide took me to a really artistic restaurant. It was like an art gala but with a restaurant. Several paintings hanging on the wall.

"Jide this is really beautiful" I told him.

"I remember you said you were a big fan of art, I didn't want to take you to an art gala, you deserve a birthday dinner. I was searching for places when I found this one, they opened recently" he said.

He didn't forget my birthday, he didn't forget that I like art. He listened, men barely ever listen but Jide listened.

"Yes I do like art" I smiled.

"Let's take our seat" he suggested.

"My mother didn't ask you any inappropriate question, did she? I asked as I glanced through the menu.

"It depends, do you consider when do you plan to settle down with Ireti as an inappropriate question?"

"Oh my God, she didn't" I laughed.

"But she did" he chuckled.

"Well that's so inappropriate. I never told her you are not my actual boyfriend"
