"This isn't about hope, it's about guts. You don't have the guts to make the hard choices. I do. He's been like this for 3 days. If he's not better by tomorrow, I'll kill him myself," Bell states calmly.
"Get the hell out," I say, looking up at him with fire in my eyes. He looks at me, eyes turning soft, then right back to the hardness. He turns on his heel and leaves the room.
"Power-hungry, self-serving jackass. He doesn't care about anyone else except himself," Monty says, glancing over to Octavia. "No offense."
"Yeah. Bellamy is all that. But he happens to be right," Finn says. I couldn't take much more.
"I need some air," I state getting up and leaving. I exit out to the dropship, immediately looking for Miller. I spot in the crew around Bellamy, getting ready to leave to go hunting.
"Miller," I shout, causing him to turn around quickly, hearing the tone of my voice. He opens his arms and I run towards them, wrapping my arms around his torso.
"What's wrong, Ver? Who hurt you," he asks.
"No one, just no one has hope that Jasper will make it," I say into his chest.
"If you believe he will, that's all that matters," he says, pulling me away. "Now I have to go so stay safe."
"Safe is my middle name," I tell him giving him a beaming smile.
"Sure it is," he says, kissing my forehead and following after the other hunters. Bellamy stayed back and walked with Miller out into the forest. I decided to go to Bell and I's hide-away place. After several hours, I decide to explore around the area. I came up behind the hunting party. Smiling to myself realizing they aren't far from camp and are already struggling to find food. As Bellamy raises his axe to throw at the animal a twig snaps behind him and just next to me. It was a little girl from the dropship. When the twig snapped, Bellamy aimed his axe in that direction instead. I pulled the girl out of its path as the axe lands in the tree next to us. That caused the animal they were hunting to run away. Most of them chase after it.
"Who the hell are you," Bellamy asks the young girl.
"Charlotte," she answers.
"I almost killed you. Why aren't you back at camp," Bell asks.
Before I heard her response, I am pulled away.
"I thought safe was your middle name," Miller says.
"Ok, maybe I lied and it isn't," I joke.
"Ver, you could have been really hurt," he states in a serious tone.
"So could have Charlotte," I argue. "Someone had to protect her."
"Fair enough, I am going to go catch up with the others, you should go back to camp." With that, Miller turns on his heels and runs after the others. I go back to Charlotte and the others as Bellamy is giving her a knife.
"What about you Minerva, you wanna come too," Atom asks.
"If Charlotte is staying, so am I. Someone has to save her when you guys have guy talk," I say standing next to Charlotte, looking down and smiling at her.
"Then its decided," Bellamy says, smiling at the two of us. We turned and headed after the others. Atom and Charlotte are in front of Bellamy and I.
"I wish I had another weapon for you," he says quietly.
"Its alright," I tell him, pulling a small knife out of my pocket. "I've got one. Hasn't left my pocket since the panther."
He nods his head and we continue walking in silence. Charlotte glances back almost to make sure we didn't disappear. I jog ahead and walk next to her for a while. Then, out of nowhere, a yellow fog begins to roll in. "What is that," Charlotte asks, in a quiet voice.
"I have no idea," I say, trying to remain calm. I reach out towards the fog and my hand begins to burn. "It burns. Run," I shout pushing Charlotte away from the fog. We run away from the fog with Bellamy in the front, Charlotte not too far from him, and Atom and I in the back.
"Come on! There are caves this way," Bellamy shouts, reaching behind him and pulling Charlotte ahead of him. I mentally thank him for pulling her with him Atom falls over a tree lump and lands on the ground. I was going too fast to stop next to him. The momentum stopped me a few feet ahead of him
"Atom," I shout. I attempt to go back and get him, but Bellamy stopped me.
"We can't just leave him," I yell once again trying to go back and get him.
"Right now all I care about is Charlotte and you. To make sure you two are ok," he says, pulling me up the hill. As we reached the crest, the caves appeared. Bellamy pushed Charlotte into one and is about to follow until he saw me looking around for Atom.
"Min, we gotta go, I am sure Atom will be alright," he says, grabbing my arm pulling me towards the cave. I take one last look and race into the cave. Bellamy stayed back until the fog encased the entrance. The three of us race deep into the cave away from the fog. Once far enough in, we all stop and begin coughing. "Are you ok, Charlotte," I ask, once I get my breathing under control. She just nods her head. Bellamy goes over and double checks to make sure she's alright. Once he does, he has her lay down and get some sleep.
"I'm going to go check the fog, see how bad it is," I say, heading towards the entrance.
