Bridging the Gap ...............................................
A man is standing on a natural sandstone bridge in the desert in Jordan. Bridges and arches are made when rainwater seeps into the rock, loosening particles that are often blasted away by the wind-borne sand. Once a hole forms it is made bigger by rock falls and further erosion aka weathering.

Plants of Sand and Rock ............................................... Some plants survive all year in the desert, such as the spiky, dry-looking bush which is see below growing on the sandy Jordanian desert floor. This bush is a kind of succulent (a plant that can store water) with scale-like leaves. Asphodel, in the lily family, grows among the rocks and compacted soils. It has a tuber (swollen root for food storage.

In the Wadi The line of plants show that there is some moisture along the floor of this Wadis are called arroyos in the North America.
They become very dangerous when they fill with torrents of rainwater which sweep away boulders, pebbles, and sand in a churning mass. The walls of the wadt are sateep-sided, and are cut back farther with each flood.
Grand Canyon ..................................... One of the natural wonders of the world, thr Grand Canyon is 277 mi (446 km) long and cuts through 1.2 m (1.9 km) of rock in northwest Arizona. At the bottom is the Colorado River, which began to erode the plateau over several years ago, and will continue to erode materials from the riverbed. The walls of the canyons show several geological ages, with the oldest rocks at the bottom dating really far.
These 6.5 ft (2 m) limestone pinnacles are found in the desert of Western Australia. They were first formed at the roots of plants growing on dunes over many many years ago. Over thousands of years, the limestone dissolved and reformed to create these rock formations, which were revealed when the surrounding doil blew away.
