As if Edelyn Knight could be normal.

The one word that her parents used most on her — that's how Edelyn learned of the word.

Normal.

"Why can't you just be a normal witch and play some Exploding Snaps?"

"She's obviously not a normal witch, or else she wouldn't be fascinated by Muggle artifacts!"

"Ede, dear, let's please be normal and use magic to make dinner."

"Don't you want to do what normal witches do and work in Saint Mungos?"

But the truth is that Edelyn was just a fifteen year old bookworm who had social anxiety and no friends. Throughout her first four years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Edelyn was never noticed. No one knew of her, and no one ever made an effort to get to know her. She was just another face down the halls, who was a hopeless romantic and had a crush on one of the most known boys at the school.

Personally, Edelyn thought she was just a hoot to be around. She made punny jokes, enjoyed reading a book under a tree during hot summers, handed out bubblegum to everyone on a daily basis, would lend a pen to anyone who asked, and she loved to play Quidditch Keeper. How much more interesting could she be?

Of course, Edelyn was ignoring all the personality traits she had that made her.. not so normal. This included her very bad social anxiety to the point where she cried when having long conversations, the fact that she never exercised and spent all of her time reading, her very kind and innocent demeanor that — in all honesty — sucked because she could lie very easily, and her impatience.

Edelyn being a metamorphagus did not help, either. This fun trait was passed down from her great grandmother, although no one in her family that was still alive possessed this ability as well. Just another reason why Edelyn couldn't be a normal pureblood witch.

Nonetheless, Edelyn was content with her life. She was currently working at the Three Broomsticks Inn, courtesy of Madam Rosmerta's kind heart, and would love to work at Zonko's Joke Shop at one point as well, because Mister Zonko was always kind to Edelyn. Once her time at Hogwarts was over, the blonde girl planned on dedicating a decade of being an Auror before trying for her dream job: a Professor at Hogwarts. Her goal was to be the Astronomy teacher or the Muggle Studies teacher, considering the Defense Against the Dark Arts post always changed within a year.

She dreamed of living in her own flat for a few years, and then finding her dream home and purchasing it on a whim, just like in the books. Once she was successful and had the perfect home, then Edelyn could return home and gloat about how being normal and ordinary, and just dreaming small, was never okay, and that pursuing her dream was the right choice.

Of course Edelyn wanted a wife or husband, and kids to share the dream house with, but the youngest Knight only had one person in mind to share it all with: Remus Lupin.

Edelyn Knight fancied Remus Lupin.

Now, it wasn't as if she'd planned on having a crush and picturing their future together — Edelyn just fell particularly hard for Remus. There had always been a few crushes before Remus — Thomas Dempsey, Dorcas Meadowes, Narcissa Black, and James Potter — but Remus was everything Edelyn wanted, on paper. If she thought about it, Remus and her would be perfect on paper. It just made sense, because they were so similar that they'd suit each other well.

And so, Edelyn set out on overcoming her social anxiety, and tried to talk Remus. Instead, though, all that happened were wide eyes and a sad, stuttering storm. That's when James Potter came strutting in and decided to ruin all of Edelyn's plans.
