Intercepting The Quarterback

Chapter 1: Sophomore Year

Here we are... Sophomore Year. It sounds crazy, because it feels like just yesterday I was in eighth grade waiting to be a Freshman.

"This year's going to be different, better even." Said my best friend Nova with such enthusiasm. "And how so?" I ask her. "I just have a gut feeling. And my gut never lies." She replies with a sly smirk on her face.

I rolled my eyes at her playfully, and shoved a spoonful of Lucky Charms into my face. "Girls, the bus is here!" Yelled my mom from the living room "ugh, Kelsea... Do we have to go?" Nova asked reluctantly, "Unfortunately... Yes Nova, we do have to go." I said with a frown on my face as I drug her out the door. "Bye mom, I love you!" I yelled from outside. "Love you Mrs. R!" Nova yelled over me. "Love you girls, have a good day at school!" She yelled back.

[15 minutes later]

"Finally!" Grumbled Nova. "Are we here?" I say groggily, seeing as everytime I get on the bus, I fall asleep. "No dipshit, we're at Walt Disney World." Says Nova, sarcastically, "Har har, very funny." I said as I sat up, and stretched.

"Did you have a nice nap Roberts?" Said Jake (the school jock/bully), "Why would you care Jake?" I asked him. "I didn't say I cared, I was just asking you if you had a nice nap." He says ruffling my perfectly brushed hair. "Ow, Jake stop it!" I say pushing his hands away. "Awe, does somebody need their bottle?" He asks laughing. "Hey fucker!" Yelled Nova. Jake turns around and goes to speak, but gets interrupted by Nova's fist hitting him in the mouth. "Move your big ass out of the way, and for pete's sake, leave Kelsea's hair alone!" yelled Nova, as she pushes him down into a seat and proceeds to drag me out of the bus.

"Damn Nova, softball really is paying off... You knocked his tooth out." I said fixing my hair. "Haha, yeah I guess. That was nothing." She says chuckling. I just roll my eyes "That was more than nothing, but ookay." I say chuckling as well.

[5 minutes later]

The bell has rung, and everyone is in class "Good morning! And welcome to another year at Edgewater High, I hope everyone had a great summer and made good choices!" Said Principal Meyers over the speaker.

"Ick.... I did not miss Principal Meyers' voice." Said Nova in pure disgust, "I didn't either.... He sounds like a child molester." I say whilst trying not to giggle. "Ladies, that's not nice to say about Mr. Meyers." Said Mrs. Latrelle, our biology teacher for the semester "You're right Mrs. Latrelle, it's not nice... It's hilarious." Nova says laughing, "Nova, stop it." I say also laughing.

Mrs. Latrelle just sighed and walked away, as she should. She knows she can't make Nova and I behave.

[1 hour later]

First period is finally over. Nova and I went to our lockers. "Ugh... Mrs. Latrelle is so annoying." I said to Nova, as I grabbed my second period books. "For real. What class do you have next?" She asked, "Um Algebra, with Mr. McDaniel. Why?" I asked her. "Oh..." She said, sounding sad. "Nova, what's wrong?" I asked, "We don't have second period together." She said frowning. I gave her a big hug, "You'll be okay. I promise." I told her.

She nods, "At least we have lunch together." She says fake crying "Oh Nova, you're so dramatic." I say giggling.

[1 hour later]

As we walked to lunch, I notice that Jake and Ashton (his best friend) are messing with Ella. A girl who has Down Syndrome.

"Hey fellas, what seems to be the problem?" I say as I walk up to them. "None of your damn business Roberts." Snapped Ashton, "Oh really? It's none of my business huh? Ella, did they hurt you?" I say to her, with a warm smile on my face, "Y-yes... Ashton hit me." She says, with tears in her eyes. I chuckle, but not because it's funny. "Did he now? Okay, I'll deal with them. You run along to the lunch room now." I say patting her arm.

After Ella left, I had one thing left to do. "So boys, care to elaborate with me on why you were picking on Ella?" I asked, with a pissy tone. "Because it's fun. She's easy game." Jake said with a cocky smile on his face, "Oh, okay..." I say as I knee him in the nuts, "Ah!" Jake exclaimed, "Oh I'm sorry.. Did that hurt?" I ask sarcastically.

Ashton looks at me with a concerned face. "You want a turn baby face?" I ask him, he violently shakes his head picks Jake up off of the floor and leaves. "Hmph! That's what I thought." I said, sounding very proud of myself.

Everyone in the hallway, including Nova clapped for me.

"Damn Kels, that was awesome!" Yelled Nova from the lunch table I was approaching. "Yeah, yeah... That was nothing." I say smiling proudly.

Ella gets up from her table and comes towards me. "Hi Kelsea, I just wanted to say thank you." She says hugging me, "Of course Ella, and hey if they keep giving you a hard time, you come find me. Okay?" I say hugging her back.

Ella pulled away from the hug, and returned to her table.

[25 minutes later]

"Okay ladies and gentlemen, please return to class! Have a great rest of the day!" Yelled the cafeteria staff, as all the kids left.

Nova and I went to our lockers before class, "Bye Kels." Said a very sad Nova, "Bye Nova." I said hugging her.

After that, we parted ways and went to our third period classes.

[2 hours later]

"Have a great day everyone, be safe getting home!" Principal Meyers said over the speakers.

"His voice... Why?" I asked myself out loud while waiting for Nova.

"Boo!" Yelled Nova from behind me "Aghh! What the hell Nova?" I say laughing. "Sowey babes, didn't mean to scare you." She says laughing twice as hard.

My mom finally picked us up, and took us home. "Who's hungry?" She asked us as she handed us Chick-fil-A.

We ate our food, listened to music, and went to sleep for the night.
