Prologue
Walking to school with Todoroki was really quiet. Even in elementary school and middle school, the quiet level was pretty much the same.
Shoto's footsteps are quiet, you never know what he's thinking. And you at his side listening to Japanese music from then latest anime you've been watching. Life with kageyama isn't really different, We've knew each other ever since elementary. Once you meet him he's a really stubborn guy but I promise when you get to know him, he can be a little nice.
Today was bit different though.
Today was your first day of high school and Shoto was slightly more tense than usual. Both of you got into UA based off recommendations. It was a bit nerve- wracking for him to not know the other students like they knew each other from the exams.
"Y/N." he said as you two were about to go in the gym too meet the other players.
"Hm?" Your steps slowed to match his, your headset slipping around your neck
"Are you worried at all?" Tobio asked, holding the straps of his bag. "That we may have trouble attaining our goals here because of the competition?"
The question caught you off guard for a bit. Whenever Shoto gets worried about anything he kept it to himself, hid it- especially when you were training together in front of his father.
The word 'goals' also made you think. Because in truth you didn't really have any of your own. For so long, your purpose had been stated by Endeavor to train against Shoto. To make him more efficient at using his power, help him refine his skills.
Shoto's chin was downcast when you gazed over at him, staring at his shoes.
No doubt he was thinking of his father too. Endeavor had always been the one giving you orders, even if you weren't really his child, so talking about it stretched your loyalties thin.
But Shoto was different. Despite being pinned against one another, you found a way to help each other grow. Never once did he resent you for what you represented. For what you were. He was your real family. The one you'd always wanted manifested into a single person.
So maybe your 'goal' would have to be the same as it always had been.
To help Todoroki achieve his.
"No, I'm not worried." You finally answered, truthfully, trying to keep your posture relaxed. You always found he was able to loosen up a bit if yo acted comfortable too. "I think you'll succeed at whatever you set your mind to."
"Based on what evidence?"
You hunched your shoulders, leaning closer to him.
"We've been practicing together for what? 10 years? I still haven't beaten you, have I?"
The young Todoroki looked up from his feet in question.
You were smiling. How come?
"I don't follow."
