Chapter 3

The next day after school, Kristen and I went shopping for dresses. Sometimes I wonder about why we are friends in the first place as we are so different. Kristen is the type of girl that loves glamour and bling, she loves bragging about new things she bought. Yet she's one of the sweetest people that I know. When I told her the truth last year, she respected my wishes, she didn't even argue, she didn't change the way she talked to me, she became an even closer friend to me.

I'm the kind of girl who likes to stay on the down low hidden between nerds and freak shows and doesn't like to be bustled around, even back home when everyone was there, I would rather sit in my room and read or do something quietly. My parents always wanted me to go out into the world and experience new things. I'm never left alone back home, my mother always wanted me to sit outside with her and observe the world as she liked to call it. I was just staring at nothing. I hated it, there's nothing to look at or do. My mother wanted me to talk to her about school, she tried to be interested, but as I said she always tries but she never succeeds.

-At the shop

"Hey Kate! What do you think of this one?" Kristen said, walking out of the changing room wearing a beautiful, elegant blue dress. She looked like a princess going to a royal ball.

"I think it's the one!" I answered while standing up to get a better view of the dress.

"Really? Because you said that two dresses ago!" turning to look at herself in the mirror.

"No, really this is definitely the one." I sat down, a gloomy feeling came over me suddenly, and I had no idea why.

"What is it? Is it bad from the back? Answer me!"

"Huh? Oh no! It's perfect you don't have to worry. Let's make a choice now, what do you think?"

"Well, if you say it's perfect then I'll take it! Now what about you? What are you gonna wear?" she asked, entering the changing room again.

"Oh, I'll dig something up! Don't worry!"

"No you won't! You're gonna buy a new dress!"

"Kristie... I… "

"No you are going to listen to me! You understand that you're on a date with the school's hottie right? So you need an 'it' dress not a 'nah!' dress!"

"Well, I looked around, I didn't like anything!"

"Well, now we'll look around together! Just like you chose the dress for me, I'll choose a dress for you!"

"Ok" I said annoyed at her.

She got out of the changing room and she told the employee she'll take the blue dress then she took my arm and walked me around the shop, she chose some dresses that I would never wear but I had to try every single one.

"Yup! This is it!" Kristen said happily.

"I think I'm starting to freak out!"

"Why on earth would you freak out?"

"Because I'm going to a party with a senior! I'm only in year 9 you know!"

"Well, you have to remember that he's as old as us but he's smarter than us; that's why he's a senior! If he wasn't a genius he would be in the same grade as us!"

"Ya I guess! But what will we talk about? I mean we have nothing in common!"

"You'll find something! Don't worry!"

"Let me go change. I'll take this dress!"

"Ok and I'll go pay for mine!"

The next day after school – At my House

I was preparing myself for the party, putting make-up on, doing my hair, when my mother came in.

"Katie, where are you going hun?"

"Um… I'm sorry I didn't tell you this before but I'm going to this big party tonight."

"Oh really? Why didn't you tell me before? I would've given you my diamond necklace."

"D…Diamond ...neck…lace. No. Mum I have to tell you something. Please sit." I took my mother by the hand and sat her down on the chair next to me. "The truth is mum; no one knows who I really am except Kristen."

"What? Why would you do that? Why would you lie to everyone?"

"Because I've seen how Eddie suffered because everyone knew who he truly is, he left the country and went to America so no one knows who he is!"

"But you also know that Jake nearly lost the love of his life because he told lies!"

"Mum this is different; this is only my first date with him. Please respect my wishes!"

"Alright, do whatever you want."

My mother stormed out of my room and I was left to finish preparing myself. I got into the car and little did I know that the journey to the party was the beginning of the most beautiful night in my life, I thought.
