PETE'S POV:

Pete collapsed on his bed, face pressed against his pillow as he tried to hold back tears. Kao's face played on repeat in his head, the way he had flinched as the coffee tumbler hit the ground. Pete shot upright shaking his head. None of this would have happened if Kao hadn't lied to him, they had made a promise and Kao had broken it. Kao told him, no he had PROMISED him that he would stop tutoring that crafty brat and yet he still went behind his back. "Fuck!" Pete yelled punching his pillow. "Fuck, Fuck, Fuck" he repeated voice cracking as he lost the battle with his tears and started crying. Shoulders shaking he tried to pull himself together, this wasn't him. The Pete everyone including himself knew would never cry, he should be angry or stone cold not crying like a baby clutching the bear he and- Pete threw the stuffed animal across the room as though it was on fire.

He looked around his room filled with pictures, items and memories of the years he and Kao had been together. All the homework, the movies, the laughing, and the late nights which always ended with clothes strewn across the room. Pete stood up he couldn't stay in this room a minute longer. He grabbed his phone ignoring the messages and missed calls and walked downstairs to the backyard. Pete sat down and closing his eyes tilted his face towards the sun trying desperately not to think about anything related to Kao.

KAO'S POV:

"Pick up Pete, please pick up." Kao whispered calling his boyfriend for the 12th time. "THE NUMBER YOU HAVE DIALED IS NOT AVAILABLE" Kao set his phone on his desk and picked up Pete's gift. The tumbler was dented and some paint had been chipped off. Kao stared at their names tracing them over and over again with his finger. There were two different voices warring in his head, his head felt like it was going to explode and his chest felt tight.

He needed this job, he was supporting his sister and Pete would never know the stress and desperation of trying to help the ones you need to protect and care for. He was rich and could easily get anything he wanted, whether that was food or boarding school fees. BUT Kao had promised Pete he wouldn't though and he had lied and tricked him for weeks. He had known that Non liked him and that Pete had been jealous yet he had still done it. Kao took a shuddering breath his eyes watering and his lungs burning. Why did he have to screw up everything, what if Pete didn't forgive him, what if they were over. "No" Kao shook his head "no that couldn't happen he couldn't imagine life without Pete." A tiny voice in his head told him that he wouldn't need to imagine life without Pete, he would be living it. Kao's breathing sped up and his palms became clammy. Hands shaking he tried calling Pete one more time.

PETE'S POV:

"Ring, ring, ring" Pete groaned in frustration as the phone rang for what seemed like the hundredth time. He let out a sigh and picking up his phone swiped up. "What the hell do you want?" He asked sharply raising an eyebrow when there was no answer. "Pe-Pete" a thin shaking voice came through the phone. Shuddering breaths and small gasps following his name. Pete's eyes widened and he straightened up in the patio chair. "Kao what is going on?" He asked worried despite his anger. There was no answer, only rough and strained breathing. "KAO! Answer me, where are you?" Pete stood up and started running to his car, opening the drivers door he slid in and turned over the ignition. Pete set his phone on his lap, Kao had ended the call but his location was on. As he drove images of Kao lying on the floor or curled on the bed or in a corner shaking. God what if he- Pete shook his head trying to clear his mind. Pete knew Kao had anxiety, he was of the very few that Kao had ever told. He stepped on the gas praying that Kao was okay.

Pete parked his car haphazardly and rushed through the gate and to the door. Luckily the door was open as it was a beautiful day and Pete slipped through. "Oh Pete! What are you doing here?" Kao's mother smiled warmly at him. "I'm sorry I have to ask Kao something, it's very important." Pete said giving his boyfriends mother a small bow and rushing past her up the stairs. He reached Kao's door and hesitated "Kao?" He asked quietly knocking on the door. There was no answer, Pete tried the door it was locked. "Kao open the door." He called urgently, rattling the doorknob. "I'm fine Pete you can leave." A voice came from the other side of the door. "I'm not leaving until you open the door Kao." Pete said "You can't push me away" There was no sound or movement from Kao's room. "Kao I will break the door" still nothing. "I'm serious Kao!" Pete hissed and took several steps back. "Three, two, on-" "Stop!" The door flew open and Pete was met with a red faced, watery eyed, heaving chested and frowning Kao. In two strides Pete wrapped his arms around his boyfriend and squeezed him tightly burying his face into his neck. Kao's body slowly relaxed and a small choked sob escaped his mouth before he could stop it. "Shhhh it's okay, let it out baby" Pete whispered into Kao's neck. Violent sobs wracked Kao's body, his face pressed against Pete's shoulder muffling his whimpers. Pete rocked them back and forth for several minutes until Kao had calmed down. Taking his boyfriends hand Petr led them to Kao's bed and sat down pulling his boyfriend down next to him. Kao was avoiding his gaze eyes and nose bright red. "Kao look at me we need to talk." Pete said calmly.

KAO'S POV:

His head was throbbing and his throat felt like sandpaper. He quickly glanced to his left and found himself trapped in Pete's gaze, his eyes quickly flickered back to his bookcase. "We need to talk Kao." Pete said calmly. Kao swallowed his stomach churning, Pete was never calm he was making him nervous. What if he wanted to break up! What if- Kao's breathing picked up unconsciously. He looked down eyes widening as Pete's hand engulfed his own and squeezed. Kao slowly looked up and into Pete's eyes, he didn't see the anger he expected but instead saw warmth and love. "I'm not breaking up with you Kao." Pete said reassured him "I just want to understand why you lied." Kao brought his shoulders up to his ears and mumbled "I needed the money and Non's father is Mom's boss, I couldn't stop tutoring him and risk her getting fired." Pete didn't say anything for a long time, his hand had slowly released Kao's smaller one and was clenched in a fist by his side. "I understand why you kept tutoring that brat but why did you have to lie and break the promise?" Pete asked his voice guarded. "I was afraid you would make me stop or be jealous." Kao said trailing off as he realized how ridiculous that sounded. "And you thought this outcome is better?" Pete's voice raised in anger. Kao flinched digging his fingernails into his palm. "N-no, I'm I'm s-s-sorry" he stuttered eyes beginning to water. He had ruined everything, his relationship, his tutoring job and his mother's job.

"What are you sorry about?" Pete asked after taking a deep breath to help himself calm down. "I'm sorry for lying about the tutoring, I'm sorry for breaking our promise, I'm sorry for ruining everything again" Kao's voice broke and he took a shuddering breath before trying to continue. As he opened his mouth to start apologizing again a surprised squeak came out of his mouth as Pete pulled him into his lap and hugged him tightly.

PETE'S POV:

"I love you Kao, I don't; no I can't stay mad at you." Pete said putting his forehead against his boyfriends and staring into Kao's watery eyes. His own filling with tears as he stared at the love of his life. The person he couldn't imagine life without. Kao let out a broken sob and pressed a feather light kiss on Pete's lips. "I love you so much Pete, I'm sorry for everything." Pete smiled gently and pecked Kao on the lips before gently cupping his face in his large hands and softly and slowly kissing him on the forehead. Kao let out a soft sigh his whole body relaxing as he snuggled closer to Pete. "I love you baby" Pete whispered over and over again as Kao traced the same message on Pete's broad back.

They pulled away from each other and smiled knowing that there would be more hardships to come but that they would face them together.
