(A/N: Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to my new book The Way of the Angels. How this story came to be is very random and will not be updated regularly. Unlike my other book, which I have serious writer's block on at the moment, this is not prewritten. So bare with me and enjoy!)
Everlie Rose woke up to a blinding light. She was lying in a hospital bed and was clothed in a billowing white gown. She remembered very little of what happened. She remembered alarms, the smell of smoke, a cry for help, and then just darkness.
Everlie sat up in her bed grabbing the side of her head and looking around the cream tinted room. Everything was cream. The walls, floor, ceiling, furniture, everything.
"You're awake!"
Everlie whipped her head to the side to find a small, young lady smiling at her.
"Where am I?"
"You are in Heaven miss."
"Heaven? Does that mean I'm-" Everlie was confused as heck. She couldn't be in Heaven. She couldn't be dead.
"I'm afraid so dear. Do you remember anything?"
"My name is Everlie Rose, I go to Angel Falls Junior High, my parents are Amy and Allan and I have 4 siblings. One older, three younger."
"Do you remember what happened today?"
Everlie tried to think and her eyes widened with realization.
The fire. The kids.
"There was a fire at my school, 4 kids were missing. I ran back in to save them."
"And indeed you did! All four students were saved due to your heroics and sacrifice."
"Sacrifice?"
The lady nodded. "You sacrificed your life for them."
Everlie was shocked. She was a hero at the young age of twelve.
"Oh." Was all the young girl could muster. "What about my family?"
"They are in a lot of grief but will heal in time. Especially with you watching over them."
"What do you mean?"
"Everlie Rose, due to your heroic sacrifice, you are hereby deemed a guardian angel. You will be given missions to protect and watch over people in need. Once you complete your mission, you will return here. Do you understand?"
"So I am assigned people who need my help and I go to them and help them, then come back here and wait for my next mission?" Everlie asked.
The young woman nodded again.
"Then I understand."
"Wonderful. There's one thing we need to do first."
"And that is?"
"You need your wings."
A bright light filled the room as the kind lady pointed her finger at the semi frightened girl.
